you forgot the "you should also throw them away after 7 years no matter of the depth" part. last week i saw a car on 16year old winter tires who nearly crashed cause of them having no grip at all on icy streets

You are right, I was adviced to throw away my 7 years old winter tires with about 3.9mm threads

Yes rubber starts getting hard I’ve noticed on about the third year of ownership. By six years they feel like they have the same grip as all seasons.
