The Lone Wolff chambers are notoriously tight and short. I bought one to shoot lead through my G34 (the only bullets we could get for our reloads) and it was very finicky, especially with reloads that hadn't been sized all the way to the base (the Glock chambered these fine). My friend had a Wilson Combat that didn't suffer the same issues. If I had it to do over, I'd spend a little extra for the KKM and avoid the chamber issues so many report with the Lone Wolff.

I can explain the velocity differences, I'm surprised the KKM was as close to the Glock barrel as it was. Velocity differences with the same ammo in different barrels is caused by a few factors, how many lands and grooves and the surface area of the lands. Then there is the rate of twist. It is no surprise the KKM was the slowest as they usually use a slower rate of twist than most. A slower rate of twist reduces resistance and less resistance creates lower pressure as the propellant burns while traveling down the barrel. KKM uses twist rates they proofed for optimum accuracy in . There barrels are built in mind for sport and competitive shooting where 115 &124 gr. pills are the go to loads thus the twist rate is based on those weights. Most manufacturers, like Glock, use faster than optimum rates for 115 &124 for two reasons, 1) to aid in hollow point bullet expansion of all available bullet weights through faster rotation of the bullet in flight and impact, 2) to better stabilize the 147 gr pills that are generally popular in defense or LEO loads. Also if you want to measure the chamber accurately get yourself some hole gauges. You cant accurately measure an inside radius with verniers.

I noticed in a side by side comparison between a Glock and Kahr .40 the Kahr was hitting the steel targets visibly harder. The guy responded to my comment and thought the twist ratio was a factor. It’s crazy how that seemed to have a effect.

In the beginning of this video when he shows all 3 barrels right next to each other. You can totally notice the standard Glock barrel has very precise, and has perfect cut edges. The other 2 barrels are really rough and look all jacked up. Also they look like somebody with no experience took a dremel and tried to make a barrel.

Isn't lone wolf barrels made in Asia vs KKM made in America? Lone wolf is far cheaper than KKM but competitive shooters prefer to use KKM barrels, also KKM barrels are used in many military operations and shooting teams so that has to mean something. But you are correct, better rifling on the KKM/Lone Wolf

always wondered if that rifling was really worth the machining process cost...I assume its a major contribution to glocks being on the pricey side...a Smith and lesson sd9 is nearly 300$ cheaper and aside from the barrel in gen 3s and prior are the only real difference...I own a 19 ( have owned 4 total) and an sd9 and the sd9 doesn't make me feel at all less secure when I carry it instead of the 19

960 Rowland is basically a 9x23 win(actually the weaker 9x23 comp) just with the bullet seated deeper. pressures are insane and make 10mm, 460 rowland and other "high pressure" rounds look mild. performance is actually slightly worse than a 357 sig out of the same length barrel despite the higher pressure because it lacks case capacity. of course you get the extra 1 or 2 rounds per mag since it is a smaller case. now the 960 rowland in something like a PF9 I would be more impressed. that would need one stout recoil spring....

+Q.R.F. CombatVet I shoot USPSA and IDPA, and reload all of my own ammo. Most of the time I shoot a lead bullet coated in a product called Hi-Tech. You can shoot this through a Glock barrel, but as someone else mentioned, you can not shoot straight lead through a Glock barrel. This is why people choose to get aftermarket barrels. And KKM makes an incredibly accurate barrel by the way.

After market won't clog the riffling as it has deeper riffling. But if you combine that with a loser fitting of the brass in the barrel you gain as much as you lose. A match grade barrel should hold the brass tighter than the factory barrel.

I have the KKM barrel in my Glock 19 and it is a shooter. It shoots so well frankly I think its a fluke that it just happened to fit up perfectly with my slide or something. I have a lone wolf barrel. I bought it because they are rifled instead of hex like the glock factory, allowing me to shoot cast bullets. The trouble I have with the lone wolf barrel (other people have the same problem) is that if you shoot reloaded ammo, the casings had to have come from the lone wolf barrel or be brand new brass. If it has been shot through the factory barrel, the brass has the "glock bulge" and won't chamber in the lone wolf barrel. I have to slam the slide to chamber it.

yeah seems to be caliber specific. It's been a while so I couldn't say if they have changed or not. I blew up two glocks with lone wolf barrels. They did nothing for me. Slides were fine. frames were toast. I sent frames to glock and paid about $100 ea to have replaced. Glock sent frames with new serial #s to my door no added FFL. I suppose they can do that since they have me on record as to where each serial # went. Anyway, tossed the barrels. G27 40sw and G20 10mm. All that said I still have a G22 lone wolf barrel which has full support and a G19 lone wolf barrel with full support.

Lone Wolf barrels are suspect. I got the Lone Wolf Alpha G23 40-to-9mm conversion barrel. It will not chamber some of the off the shelf CCI 9mm rounds (not reloads). I sent the barrel back to Alpha twice and it's no different. I sent casings along with it to demonstrate. They were like a cork in a bottle and jammed in the barrel They work fine in 12 other 9mm pistols I have as well as another after market conversion barrel. Alpha even went as far as to tell me that the casing must have expanded when fired in a Glock because of loose tolerances in Glocks. I told him, for the 4th time, that it wasn't fired in a Glock. And the spent casings still fit in all other 9mm pistols perfectly. If you want a 9mm barrel, and you want to be able to get rounds off the shelf and know they will work, don't get an Alpha. When I told them I'd take them up on the offer to refund, they stopped responding to my emails. I have all the emails to go along with the story - complete with names and dates.

Nice vid, with good comparisons. However, I wonder about the chamber measurements. The 9mm is not a straight case; it has a slight taper. If you did not measure at the exact same depth, the diameter will be different. I bought a Lone Wolf barrel for my Glock 20, and the difference in chamber dimensions was significant, when comparing the same round dropped into each chamber. The Lone Wolf barrel had much less "wiggle" room than the Glock barrel. The Lone Wolf barrel also has less of an unsupported chamber than the factory barrel. I did not try an accuracy comparison, because I bought the Lone Wolf so I could shoot lead bullets without worry. Again, nice video. Thanks!

In all fairness, the LW may not have enough support for what you were trying to do with them. That's different that not having enough support, period. Hot loads in reloaded brass are pushing it. Reliability comes at the price of brass life and maybe accuracy. You can get better accuracy AND better brass life, but you sacrifice reliability to get it.

my understanding is kkm warranties reloads (still be careful) and lone wolf does not...I would be especially careful with a lone wolf in 40sw or 10mm.

I don't recall you saying that the after market barrels were match grade or not. A Match grade barrel will be tighter than the factory barrel. This allowing less energy expanding brass and more energy pushing the projectile out of the barrel. If these were Match grade barrels I would not waste money on them!

Define "Match Grade"? Every aftermarket bbl claims "tighter chamber".

I say there is no need to buy an aftermarket barrel for a Glock. If you shoot a lot of lead and I mean a lot maybe go aftermarket. But the factory barrel will shoot anything including a fat reload or two that may be in your batches with no worries.

When a "product comparison" is done you need the expertise and understanding how to do so in order to not spread incorrect information. A; measuring the diameter of a hole (in this case the chamber) you can not get a reliable measurement with the jaws of a caliper. The flats on the caliper result in an inaccurate measurement by contacting the radius off center. You need a hole gauge or plug gauge to do this. B: Explain the parameters of your accuracy testing. Im not sure if you were shooting off a bench or free hand. Without knowing if you took some precautions to eliminate human error the test is inclusive.

no offense intended, but I've seen have sen shooters (including mysely) not able to shoot a KKM to it's full potential. Proper practice will imporve your grouping.

No offense intended... but for all of the equipment you have, you really need to perfect your shooting skills with more range time. You were at 15 yards and only hit the target once? Buy cheaper ammo and develop your technique.

Dan Downey, keep in mind that he was shooting +p+ ammo. A difficult (recoil) bullet to handle. Why he chose this round is anybody's guess. Better test if he used standard 115, 124. or 147 grain.

What if you are injured to the point that you cannot get a good grip on the gun. What if your a frail old lady or old man with severe arthritis in their hands and very weak. Polymer framed guns are more likely to fail on them. Good thing though atleast the first round will shoot.

You cannot do proper velocity checks with factory ammo. They would need to be hand loads and hand trickled in, not dump charges of powder, and a string of 10 shots through your Glock barrel for a control average. You have shown that the Glock barrel gives you the best accuracy for THAT ammo, but checking velocities per barrel makers cannot be done with ANY factory ammo, or any hand loads where the power charge is dumped in. Each charge must be as accurate as possible. This is what keeps your velocities closer. So other than accuracy, the results are .. well kind of non-existent. As far as one poster talking about twist rate, this has nothing to go with it. Since the barrels are different, you want to find the one with the most consistent muzzle velocity from shot one to shot five. The actual speed does not matter. This again is why factory ammo will not work for a test like this.

On the contrary, the OP's experiment has reasonably proven that despite using factory ammo and only shooting 4 rounds per barrel, the resulting variance in speed is so small (less than 1%) that there is no practical advantage in speed between one barrel or another. It can therefore be further surmised that even if all rounds were perfectly loaded with the exact same charge, or even if he shot a hundred rounds in each barrel, one would likely end up with similar (and perhaps even more negligible) variances as the OP had proven with a simple experiment of 12 factory load shots.
