There is absolutely a benefit of carrying a .40 or .45 over 9mm. I understand that modern bullets and powder have made 9mm much more effective, but the same advancements have been applied to the big bore cartridges as well. The result being that .40 and .45 have become much more effective than they were in the past. Modern ammunition advancements are not unique to just 9mm. I do see the benefit of higher capacity firearms in regard to 9mm, but the fact remains that .40 and .45 caliber are much more effective calibers. It comes down to individual preference. Do you want higher capacity or a more powerful caliber? That is simply what it comes down to.
@frug5629
@frug5629 Жыл бұрын
Seems to me that the Glock 22 is a good compromise for those two desires. Power and good capacity. And I agree with your other assessment. It comes down to preference and what your shooting abilities are at that time. But in my personal opinion, you should always try and max out the power you can get away with. Shot placement is good, but power can make those shots even more efficient.

If you really study the ballistics tests you'll see that expansion is about the same however .40s tend to have better penetration on average than 9's. I never switched to 9mm.

Man you got it dead on 👍🏽 Plus with the redesigned recoil spring setup and thickened slide the recoil is SO much more manageable. Especially if you throw a WML on the front of it. Swear the recoil is almost neck and neck with a hot loaded 9mm

That’s debatable in some cases such as the extreme defender ammo available. The 40 pushes 1500 fps at most but the 9mm pushes 1800 fps or more and can’t defeat some body armor. I love the .40 and I’m considering switching back to it because i really would love the mos g22 with a 509T on it, that’s the optic I prefer on my mos g17 it’s pretty a cool optic.

@@AncientMorbidity1991 Bro, if we were after speed and punching through stuff we'd use the liberty defense .40 at 2000 FPS. I got 2101 outta my 5.25 .40 xdm over a chrono. lol Also, the 9mm you were quoting is HIGHLY +p, overpressure. You WILL blow up your gun feeding that stuff mag after mag at a time. The difference is, we dont have to run ours overpressure to get respectable numbers with bullets that yours could never handle at given speeds. For example, if you tried to shoot that underwood .40 load, 100 grain bullet @ 1500 FPS out of your 9mm you'd blow your gun up😂🤣 EDIT: And yes, you can get +p .40. Triton makes it and buffalo bore...or you can handload it +p with a fully supported chamber.😈Even +p the 9mm will NEVER hit the energy numbers of a .40. Our numbers are 500-600 ft lbs of energy, your +p is usually in the 300's. lol. I like 9mm but it aint better than .40 in NO way other than girls can shoot it.

@@losi8ightyew First off liberty defense is a gimmick round, second you can most definitely shoot that 9mm ammo without worrying about it blowing up or whatever you were talking about! And btw you should do more research on 9mm and ammo in general because my defenders going 1,800 fps generate 489 ft lbs of energy. And 9mm is arguably better than .40 but that sounds more like an opinion than a fact since you shows clear bias and are misinformed!

Thanks for this video; I also didn't hear anything about them. I went to the range, and while I was waiting to check in, I saw one on the shelf. I didn't jump on it right there and spend the whole night looking up at the ceiling, thinking about it. I called the next day, and it was still available; when I got there (20 minutes later max), someone was doing the paperwork on it; I was heartbroken. As I was driving to work after leaving there, I Googled "gun shops near me" and called the first place that came up, and they had one! I went straight there and jumped on it. It is an absolute beauty!

It's not about not being able to handle the recoil, it's about speed. .40 can make you slower if you aren't practicing & using the right platform. This is why we have Major & Minor power factors. There is a reason Glock changed the .40 cal slide weight for the Gen 5s.

I’d love to conceal my USP but it’s massive and expensive. Two things not covered in the video is that the G5 22 and 23 are both offered in MOS variants when previously the only .40 MOS offering was the G4 35. The other thing is that the .40 G5 has a beefier slide so G1-4 holsters often don't fit the G5 guns. Holster makers seem to have realized this and quickly offered G5 .40 holsters.

You may already be able to do that with existing 357 barrels in the 23 & 27's because the locking block and lugs are the same on those (they only changed on the fullsize Gen 5's). Unless they changed the diameter/width of the Gen 5 .40 barrel itself which it doesn't look like they did. It only appears that just the slide has more meat on it. I haven't been able to verify this first hand yet. As long as the barrel dimensions are the same on the 23 & 27 (which I think they are) existing G32 & G33 .357 barrels would work. Lonewolf will figure it out real quick. They where the first ones to market a Gen 5 17 barrel because they already had them in production as "19L" barrels. So as soon as they realized Glock changed the 17's to the 19,27 locking lugs they changed the description on the 19L barrels to "19L/Gen 5 17".

Glock publishes a recommended spare parts list based on how many pistols are in an agency, beginning with per 100 pistols. Realistically, the only maintenance part is a recoil spring assembly every 5,000 rounds (or 10,000 rounds). If you wear out other parts, you already know what to buy. If you do full disassembly, stock the parts you lose. If you repair Glocks, the trigger with trigger bar is commonly defective. If you modify Glocks, stock those special parts. I don't believe in the perfection nonsense, but Glocks don't really go through a lot of parts. ...and buying parts right now gets difficult. Glock is not selling parts, unless you are a cop. Some stores have some parts available.

Good little history. The entire Gen 5 in .40S&W platforms increased it’s slide width and height from the 9mm 1.0in to 1.085in along with the lower to match the new width. These new models will require New Holsters for the most part. I purchased the new G23 as I was so impressed with the handling of recoil and back on target. As you mentioned, why was kept so off the GEN5 news? Believe this new step by Glock will increase the demand in this caliber. Thanks. Shooting this caliber in a designed 9mm frame never made since to me. After my range test of the G23/5, I bought it. The punch is stronger, as expected .40Cal, however it recoiled just as my G19/4 and easy back on target due to the #20lbs recoil-spring not like #18lbs and lighter slide in the 1 inch wide 9mm frame. Area not mentioned here is the Rear Sight Dove-Tail. I install all my sights and had heard a lot of accuracy problems that were being attributed to the “newer barrels” of the GEN5, which made absolutely no sense to me. Sights for the Gen5 we’re hard to find if any as after market apparently never saw a problem and failed to re-act, IT’S A GLOCK. However, I tried to mount some Gen4 sights and saw differences and especially after the “push”. I noticed a lot of “air gaps” under the sight indicating that the rear sight failed to bottom within the dove-tail and it arose many questions as to why. After calling many sight manufactures, which all failed to mention any problems, I finally called AmeriGlo and got some answers. The dove-tail is deeper, esp on my new G23/5 as I saw mounting sights off my G19/4. They were the ONLY manufacture producing a sight version for the Generation 5 that can be seen in their part number. I ordered a set of CAP sights, marked for Gen5, and they were tough to push, really tough. However, on the range they were POINT-ON. My thought as a result of this, I would recommend calling your sight provider and discuss this with their technical staff prior to up-grading your sights on Gen5. As some sights do have a hex-screw lockdown on the rear sight, they may function OK i.e. TRUGLO and the like if you don’t mind a gap.

So they've 'updated' 9mm ammunition? But not the .40 ammo? With LE already in .40, why not 'step up' .40? The existing guns can't handle it? Maybe the Gen 5 solves that issue? Or did LE just want to save $$ per round and help pad qualification scores with slightly-softer shooting guns? LE has been hurting badly to get people into uniforms: ANY people.

I’m a 9mm, 10mm (obviously), 38Super, .357Sig and 45acp guy. Never owned nor got into 40. Until recently…. I just converted a Glock 32 into .40 with a KKM barrel. Now I 💙40! Why did I wait all these years to own some 40’s???? Next purchase is the Gen5 Glock 23. I like the thicker slide design Glock did with the Gen5 40’s. I already started buying Glock factory 40 mags before even owning a 40. Plus those mags work in the .357Sigs that I own (31, 32, 33). If .357 Sig eventually dies, no biggy I have 40 conversions for them already. The sucked thing is that the latest Glock 357 produced magazines will no longer hold and cycle a 40 caliber bullet, but the 40 magazines will cycle both calibers. Glock designed these two small “rails” within their latest .357 Sig mags and because the 40 doesn’t have a “shoulder” like the .357Sig, the bullet is blocked by the two “shoulder rails” inside the magazine. Sneaky Bastards! Lol.

As much as I love a double stack 45acp my EDC is still the red headed step child of Glock the lowly G36, due to the grip width. With a Hyve +1 the grip length is all but identical to the G21/G41 and while the front to back size on the grip is fine, the width of the G21 grip is just that least bit too big for comfort in my hand.

@@someguy5444 My reason for getting the .45 GAP was a bit strange; it was for competition. I have been a big believer in .357 Sig for a long time and have carried a Gen 4 Glock 31, and actually it did everything so well it was my only handgun for years. However, I shoot in 3-Gun, and I always compete in the He-Man division, which requires a .30"-or-larger, full-power rifle caliber (ArmaLite AR-10 for me), a 12 gauge pump shotgun (Benelli Nova Tactical with mag extension), and a handgun with a bore diameter of .45" or larger. I am huge on platform familiarity, and use competition mainly as a way to practice my defensive skills, so I got a handgun that handles EXACTLY like my Gen 4 Glock 31, and since interchangeable parts are big for me, I saw that the only parts that don't interchange between my .357 and a .45 GAP were the barrel, slide, extractor, ejector, and magazine. Once I got the Gen 4 Glock 37, though, I realized how GORGEOUS it was to shoot. Even with my handloads (230gr FMJ or Gold Dot at 900fps), it had a soft, slow push of a recoil impulse. It was also EXCEEDINGLY accurate, shooting similar groups to my .357, and doing MUCH better than the Gen 4 Glock 21 or Springfield TRP I used to have.
@someguy5444
@someguy5444 3 жыл бұрын
@@chouyi007 well you got me on the competition part as that is a completely different thing to just a carry handguns purpose but you can’t say that the 34 and 37 are even that similar when the only thing they have in common is the frame. The older Glock 22s and 23s don’t have the longevity of the 9mm models. The .40 caliber cartridge used to beat our guns loose after a few years, and had to be regularly replaced. The newer Gen 5 model 22s appear to have been substantially reinforced, and might actually have made this a worthwhile gun to obtain. I have other .40 caliber pistols that are pleasant to shoot, but not my Glock Gen 2 or Gen 4 model 22s. I am glad to see this, and appreciate Chris for bringing this to our attention. Our Gen4 models don't ever rust like this. On the Gen5 models once the black is gone, the protection is gone. On the Gen4 pistols the black is just a color.
