Glock will eventually release the Generation 6 gun. The Generation 5 Glock saw over 20 changes from the previous model but externally it seems very little has really changed. Will the Glock Gen 6 drastically change the gun or will it be more of the same?

Rumor has it that the Gen 6 will have polygonal rifling for increased accuracy, finger grooves for better ergonomics, and a slightly different black finish for increased corrosion protection. It will retain the polymer sights.

Cool so all you will have to do is change the sights ,the grips put a new trigger in and 600 dollars later on top of the 650 you paid for the stock pistol you get a pretty nice gun or you could just spend 5-6 hundred on an xdm elite , or CZ p10 or a Steyr M9 A2 or FN 509 tactical with way more features, better quality, fit and finish and just as reliable for half the dough

I’ve used and carried the Glock pistol for 30 plus years, and here are my thoughts; I like it the way it is. I don’t see why they should change anything. They have their base customers, and new customers are attracted by their reputation based on their proven history. Changing the trigger guard would make it not fit the multiple holsters that Glock users have accrued over the years. Kind of like the 1911. You either like them or you don’t. Those who cling to them do so because of history and familiarity. I say let Sig be Sig, and Glock be Glock, and others do there thing too!

Totally see where your coming from my man, But I would propose a solution, how about keeping gen 6 pretty much the same with some nice quiet upgrades, but then also throwing some R and D money at a totally new very modern pistol. Glock's attitude is both a blessing and a curse. If Glock changed the formula drastically every few years (like HK or Sig for instance), the Glock would not be the staple it is today. Aftermarket support is enormous for Glock simply because it hasn't changed and has stayed practically constant for so long... so long that other vendors have more than enough time to adopt and have little to no worries about a completely new model to adapt to. It's like the 1911, which btw also has a massive aftermarket support - for the same reasons. It has barely changed. Now, take any new and "innovative" gun that was recently released and recently discontinued for a newer and improved model - no aftermarket support.

Don't get me wrong, I love classic firearms. However, you're actually proving a good point. While Mauser rifles are indeed great quality, in the 40's they were just heavily outdated by more superior firearms, simply due to advances in technology. It's almost the same here, except now, Glock has the ability to find information about what people want to see in their product in real time, yet they won't improve their products. Glock is still a great company that will likely be around for many years to come, but if they keep this up they'll end up falling behind in the next decade or so.

@@DanAllen117 "More superior firearms" like what, exactly. Mauser 98 was easily the best bolt action design in the world even during the 40's. If you mean that it was outdated by merit of the fact that it was a bolt action in a world with submachine guns and semi automatic rifles, that would make perhaps more sense, but it still isn't a complete statement. Most of the armies in the world were still using bolt action rifles until the end of the war for their standard arm. Literally tens of millions of bolt action rifles were made during that period and it was easily the most common arm on the battlefield.

As a company who makes a product, wouldn't that be the problem though? If people "aren't" buying it? I mean, I don't know of a single company who sells a product that doesn't wish to expand their customer base... That's not to say Glock doesn't have a huge base at all... we aren't talking about a niche handgun at all, but still, maintaining a customer base is not as good as growing one. As someone who is currently carrying one as a duty handgun (G45, because fuck yes it's a great design), I used to hate on the grip angle a lot. Having shot mine a lot, I don't notice it anymore. I'm not sure it does "anything" aside form lock out the wrist, but comparing it to the M92A1 I carried before hand (which is an epic handgun no matter what former .mil say), there is functionally no difference in shooting beyond the slight mental retraining necessary to "compensate" for it.

@Paladin1873
@Paladin1873 3 жыл бұрын
@@Eduardo_Espinoza Those options came very late in production around the 1990s, long after better guns were being built by competitors. I came of age during a time when good gunsmiths were required to turn any 1911 into a true combat pistol. Colt refused to make these improvements to their 1911 pistol or provide enhancements to it for the first 80 years or more of its production run. They were very late to the game. During this period they didn't even bother to modify the feed ramps and chambers to reliably feed anything other 230 grain FMJ. The same can be said of their entire lineup of firearms. Improvements to their revolvers came slowly and never matched what S&W was doing. They dropped their entire DA revolver line for two decades before bringing some names back a couple of years ago. Thankfully, they upgraded and simplified the lock work to make the guns stronger and more durable. Their SAA was dropped in 1941 and not restored until the late 1950s, then dropped again between 1974-75 before resuming once more. It remains virtually unchanged from the 1873 design, meaning it is still not safe to carry with six rounds in it. Ruger fixed that problem nearly a half century ago.

@@Paladin1873 but what about the A1 updated to the A2 1911 within 80 years also there are many 1900's pistols before they landed on the 1911. colt made Russian variants, mexican variants, they had different configurations & unique calibers.
@Paladin1873
@Paladin1873 3 жыл бұрын
@@Eduardo_Espinoza You are equating markings and very subtle cosmetic changes to actual design improvements. Changing calibers is not an improvement to the design. One might argue the Commander, introduced in 1949, was the first major change Colt made to the 1911, in that it had a shortened slide and barrel and an aluminum frame, but that was it. Colt did not improve the extractor design, the link system, the safety, or the sights. The series 70 introduced the spring loaded collet bushing with its tendency to break at the most inopportune monument. This was followed by the Series 80, with its gritty trigger pull, courtesy of the firing pin block safety. By comparison, innovative gunsmiths have been tinkering with Colts since the first ones entered the civilian market prior to America's entry into WWI. It was gunsmith who created the shorter configurations, longer configurations, lowered ejection ports, relieved trigger guards, improved combat sights, ambidextrous safeties, better triggers, faster lock times, more accurate barrels and bushings, etc. This cottage industry eventually beget several high end custom manufacturers, while other established gun companies and importers joined in making their own versions of the 1911, some being nearly exact copies of the Colt, and others containing more advance features. Colt seriously lagged behind them, preferring to live off its name and past laurels until finally forced to change their practices as their market share dropped. The point being made is that neither Glock nor Colt have been very innovative. They stick with a well proven design while others either improve on it or come up with something better. In this regard I would agree Colt is ahead of Glock. At least Colt has designed and built more than one gun. Colt's logo may be a pony, but at least they are not a one trick pony like Glock.

Small Arms Solutions has been over this. "Modular" for how the military defined it, was the pistol would adapt to fit different sized hands and have ambidextrous controls. Glock's submission met that "modular" requirement. Now I agree, I think the removable FCU is what won SIG the contract.

@@murphykenji no, not at all. You need to read what "modularity" is in the HMS requirement. There was no requirement for a removable chassis. (Small Arm Solutions; Start at the 2:28 mark. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJ-Wf3aEfsilfaM ) Did the removable chassis sway their decision? @@MrSmith-zy2bp it would have swayed me in the opposite direction. I'm not an engineer, but fewer parts is better than less parts, and making those parts unnecessarily accessible and easy to lose or incorrectly reassemble makes no sense. I think there's a difference in the frame materials too. Where the Glock frame is mildly flexible, the Sig frame is harder and feels more brittle. I think time will tell in the reliability and durability comparison. The M17 isn't "cheaper" if they have to replace them twice as fast.

Sig, S&W, and others took 20 years to catch up to Glock, and their so called innovations amount to ergonomic tweaks and other minor differences. Call me a Glock fanboy, but that's the way I see it. As a hunter and outdoorsman a "winter trigger guard" would work for me. I just installed a Side R Lock safety on my 21. I like it. A very positive on/off accompanied by a very audible click . The safety button is somewhat protected by the trigger guard against accidental manipulation and installing it didn't void my Glock warranty. On the down side, the safe action part appears to be larger than the factory piece thereby taking up even more space in an already cramped trigger guard. I haven't had it on the gun long enough to speak towards if it's as rust proof as the manufacturer claims it is. All said and done , I like my gen3 Mod. 21 whether its dressed up as 10mm or 45 (Super).

Glocks are tools. The grip angle was intentional. A new shooter learns on a glock grip angle and that is all they are comfortable with. The sights are cheap to help keep cost down knowing most people would replace them regardless. Mag interchangeability is genius. The ability to own full size, compact, and subcompact while utilizing the same mags is huge. The cheap cost of mags / parts is another really big advantage. Glocks are intentionally utilitarian.

The marksman barrel is wrong advertising. The only thing it does is making it a marking barrel. Some agency's wanted a barrel that can be identified. A polygonal barrel is almost impossible to identify what bullet went trough it. The groves on the new barrel gives you that option. Doesn’t do much to the accuracy.
@GunFunZS
@GunFunZS 3 жыл бұрын
Right. It also goes along with their dubious claim of the polygonal not being safe with cast bullets. Many people have shown that claim not to show anything measurable or observable. If there was truth to it in some obscure circumstance I wouldn't be surprised. but as people actually use cast bullets they were always fine with the original standard Glock barrels. The Glock wouldn't admit that this gives them a way to market a special product for those people too. And they never have to admit that there wasn't much to their claim. This is particularly relevant since major manufacturers are now doing polymer jacketed cast or swagged bullets such as the federal syntek for example. Basically the same as many people have been doing for themselves or buying as a component from many different bullet manufacturers. Glock really in their marketing box himself into a corner by declaring themselves perfect every change must be unnecessary or a downgrade right? So to change anything they have to make up an obscure new reason for the change. They always advertise the political rifling as being substantially more accurate and less destructive to the bullet The letter claim might be a little more justifiable. If the polygonal rifling was always more accurate why would the marksman barrel have lands and grooves? Wouldn't that be a downgrade? I mean the boring answer is they were both about equally accurate and very similar in where life and very similar in manufacturing, and slightly different but not very different in the effects of the barrel has on the bullet.

@@GunFunZS This was 1991 - 95 era so it was strictly bare lead with blue lube. I could see streaks of lead throughout the barrel after a range session. That was my issue Glock so I was extra careful to avoid damaging it or blowing it apart with reloads. That would've bought a lot of days off without pay. So scrubbing the bore clean of any lead was paramount. If one of the armorer staff had found lead in the bore I'd have lots of 'splaining to do. Luckily the poly rifling was not hard to clean. Coated bullets I just started this past year and shot some 45acp but not enough experience to comment on them.
@GunFunZS
@GunFunZS 3 жыл бұрын
@@LuvBorderCollies Cool. It's almost certain that you could have had no leading with better lube technology and probably a little fatter/harder bullets. And that's just with the old style lubed lead bullets. Powder coat or other polymer jacketing such as Hi-Tek or Federal Syntek (sp?) completely eliminates leading and copper fouling. You still have powder residue but cleanup is a breeze. Crowd sourcing development over the last decade ish has really improved the quality and performance of self made ammo. IMO Federal was copying what end users came up with. Also with controlled alloy, and a chronograph there is getting to be a body of info that means we can really make defensive quality ammo whether or not it is in stores. This is kinda at the beginning, but Loads of Bacon here on youtube started the project a few years ago, of quantifying expansion with iterative testing of a few popular HP bullet designs. So the same bullet gel tested with a softer or harder alloy, with more or less velocity, then results quantified. So long as you use the same mold and you shoot it at the same velocity with the same alloy, you can get the same controlled expansion. It's a great time. There's a lot of data to be filled in still, but the body of knowledge is constantly growing.

Early Gen5 guns did have the cut on the grip for pinch removal of the magazine and did not have front slide serrations. Gen4 guns in 9mm and 40 were discontinued in late 2020. Gen3 guns from 2018 to 2020 were only sold with 10 round mags for CA and MA. Gen3 SKUs were reintroduced with normal capacity mags when the Gen4 models were discontinued. The Gen5 has a redesigned fire control system where most parts are not the same as prior models. The 19x front magwell extension was put in for the military contract as a design feature to prevent pinching gloves when changing magazines, not to "protect the magazine from being banged."

I know somebody's going to mention it but I thought I might as well. The MHS program modularity requirements only required the ability to add or remove a back strap and that's it. The reason why the sig was chosen over the Glock was not because it was the superior weapon or more modular but because sig literally gave them away at cost to the military just like how Glock had a trade in program for law enforcement to get rid of their non Glock firearms and get a free Glock. It's all about marketing yourself and since Glock has an extremely high profitability with a low cost they were not willing to undercut the value of the guns since they sold like hotcakes on the private market. For the longest time the sig had repeated failures and issues until they finally worked out the kinks to make it as reliable as a Glock and pretty much any other modern miracle nine. The distance between the bottom of the slide and where the hand rests on the underside of the beaver tail is horrendous on the M18.

There’s few things you guys are missing here. What you want already exists, you want ambi controls? Buy a VP9 or a P10, don’t buy a Glock. The market already has you covered. But if you want to mix and match parts have an abundance of aftermarket parts to go to if you want this upgraded or that upgraded then buy a Glock. It’s not the best pistol ever, it’s not perfect or reliable when you start just throwing random parts into it without confirming that it can work with each other. Glock isn’t perfect, but neither is the AR platform...the perfection is that the individual can build it to be “perfect” for them and their needs. If it doesn’t meet your needs and you need something like the P10 or the 320? That already exists on the market.

Glock would not have had these issues since US special operations has been using the Gen 3 19 for quite a few years now. I'm also genuinely curious how Sig managed to undercut the price of Glock since Glock has been selling to LE at an absurd discount for decades.
