Get the 20 if you don't plan on making a bunch of distance shots. You can always just put the longer barrel from the 40 in the 20. If you really want, you can get the slide, guide rod, and the doohickey that is on the front of the lower and you'll have a 40 and a 20.
@edgeuvchaos5 жыл бұрын
This was the pistol that made me finally switch from S&W to Glock for many reasons and it is simple once you look the weapon over. The extra length of the barrel means more accuracy when firing also it means that you get more bang for each shot fired. Extra velocity, extra penetration, more impact but the downfall is that it is slower on the draw because more barrel has to clear the holster. To remedy this a drop down rig will give you an equal playing field when drawing as long as you practice firing from the hip on your first shot before bringing the weapon up to a correct shooting position. I have trained like this since I was a Marine on my own time because shooting from the hip was not part of pistol training when I was trained shooting the Berretta 92 back in the early 90's. I also trained all of my family members and friends who wanted me to train them to use a firearm to shoot from the hip along with all the true shooting techniques the Marines taught me. To make a long story short the Gen 4 Glock 40 MOS chambered in 10mm is the finest self defense handgun I have ever owned and that list is a very long one seeing as I am now 43 years old with my first handgun being a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 magnum at the age of 16 but it was limited to six shots and a slow reload time. From there I started buying, testing, and training with as many handguns as possible including surplus handguns from other countries like the Russian CZ52 chambered in 7.62x25 which is another hand cannon but is limited to only 8-9 rounds a load with a slower mag release. The Glock 40 gives you 15 rounds of magnum power bullets, a quick reload like other quality hi cap mag pistols, and a very controllable recoil even with powerful rounds. Honestly I would have stuck with S&W M&P pistols had they kept making a 10mm with hi cap mags like Glock has after all it the was S&W model 1006 chambered in 10mm that got me hooked on the 10mm in the first place. For the life of me I do not understand why the general public would just follow the chosen rounds forced on the majority of police officers, like sheep. All of the officers I know (and there are many) did not care much for the .40 S&W. Don't get me wrong it is a caliber that will kill a human but the 10mm will do the job better hands down. Even the 9mm +p ammo does not compare to the 10mm in speed and power if you buy the correct 10mm ammo. Look at it like this. Most people carry some kind of pocket knife if they have any kind of self preservation sense. A pocket knife is constantly needed in every day life to open letters, cut power cords, scrape your fingernails, etc. but I not only carry a pocket knife for everyday use I also carry a Swiss Army knife that I use to do many more things that pop up in everyday use. The 10mm is like the Swiss Army knife of pistol rounds as it can stop people and it can stop large animals from attacking you. Not to mention if your aggressor is shooting at you from behind cover the 10mm is more likely to penetrate that cover and the attacker too. I will carry the Gen 4 Glock 40 MOS as my EDC defense weapon until S&W (or another quality gun company) makes a model M&P (or similar model) chambered in 10mm (the lack of one was a huge mistake on their part) and even then I would have to test it against my Glock 40 to see if it could deliver the same quality of protection. NOTE: Please do not buy a Jennings or Hi-Point pistol, save up and get a weapon that will not hang up on you when you need it most, your family, your friends, and even your life is worth more than the cheap price of crap weapons.
@edgeuvchaos5 жыл бұрын
I wish I could help but I have no personal experience with them. I could spout off what everyone else is saying about them but that would be dishonest. Picking a weapon is important because the lives of you and those you love are on the line trusting that weapon to protect them so I cannot give any advice on Rock Island guns, sorry. You might check KZbin for like a 500 round burn video on them to see how they hold up under extreme conditions.

+FlyTour69 it's not just about recoil sensitivity really. 9 is cheaper, easier to shoot = more rounds effectively on target, higher capacity generally for the same size weapon = more rounds in the target, more effectively suppressed than 40sw etc. The caliber debate might as well be dead in this day and age (between 9mm, 40sw, 45acp.) If you look at the ballistics between the 3 rounds foot pounds of force exerted on the target is pretty similar. Long story short: carry the round you shoot the best, to put the most holes in the target as fast as possible.

The semi-circular tab (or whatever you want to call it) on the front of Gen 4 slides is larger than the Gen 3 slides--due to the dual recoil spring unit that is used. This means that the front of the frame has a larger cutout to match. If you put a Gen 3 slide on a Gen 4 frame, there's a huge gap. On the other hand, the Gen 4 slide can't go all the way onto a Gen 3 frame.

My wife bought me a G40, so far about a 1000 rounds of sellier and bellot 10mm through it, no jams or smiles. However I recently purchased some really hot underwood extreme penetrators pushing a 140grain solid copper bullet at 1,560 fps. It shoots ok if you take your time, but if you do a mag dump or squeeze off more than a few, the infamous Glock smile appears and each successive round gets worse and worse to the point that at about the 13th round the casing had bulged so much in the chamber that the extractor didn't remove the empty and a jam occurred. Upon inspection I was amazed at how close the underwood round came to total catastrophic failure, aka the dreaded squib load? Either way if anyone happens to get their hands on this piece, I highly recommend buying a fully supported after market barrel as the OEM glock barrel is not sufficient to handle successive high power rounds in a rapid fire situation and the risk of injury increases as you dump a full magazine. Had my weapon not jammed I may be in the hospital with injuries. A very nice gun, still extremely reliable, however, Glock fails to inform the consumer that their stock barrels are designed to accept a wide range of low to medium power loads efficiently, but does not fully support the cartridge in the chamber because of this feature, and high power loads may fail and cause injury. don't let this turn you away however, still a very nice platform. I'm gonna try a lone wolf threaded barrel and see how it does

So when I finished I put my headphones on and startied watching this exact video. The teacher glanced at me and saw what I was watching.. He confiscated my phone for watching inappropriate content on KZbin during school.. Really bs .. My father, a former marine.. however did come up to the school and sorted them out and got my phone back

Cool you said Alaska! I line in Juneau Alaska, was just at the Gun shop and the first gun the guy recommended was the Glock 40 10 mm. I do a lot off hiking and berry picking in the summer here, and can’t always carry a giant rifle or shot gun , I’m new to Glocks so I really appreciate your videos, I don’t own one yet! But looking too soon , thanks

Awesome gun! When I got my Gen4 23 (used) the original owner had replaced the standard sights with adjustable sights like on your G40. Those things just would not stay zeroed. A local shop stuck some Glock steel sights on for $15.

Hickok45, I just returned from the range. I had a 6" KKM barrel on my Glock 20 and put it onto my Glock 40 for today's range. It worked without flaw using American Eagle 200 gr FMJ and had impressive accuracy.

Hey Hickok! Love your channel! I just purchased a G40 and I wondered if you have a recommendation for a good hunting holster that works well with the long slide? Thank you!
@CalebDor Жыл бұрын
Before I had a custom holster made I used the Safariland 578 pro fit holster for large framed hand guns. You can set the retention you desire and it allows for a reflex sight if you wish to mount one.

My wife just bought me one of these guns for an early Christmas present. It shoots really well, but while reassembling the gun I can't get the slide on to the frame unless I push on the striker plunger allowing the striker to move forward then I can get the frame and slide back together. I've never had to do that with any other glock. It doesn't seem to affect performance.

Another good video. Thank you for your attention to gun safety -- that's so important. I'd like to share a story that occurred recently: I was with a family member at the range a few months ago. He had a brand new S&W .380 semi automatic pistol he was going to shoot for the 1st time, which he'd been keeping loaded with factory ammo for concealed carry. I'd mentioned the range did not allow loaded guns inside except on the firing line, so he removed its magazine and cycled the slide a few times to clear the pistol before we entered the facility. Fortunately, I noticed a live round had remained in the chamber despite the slide being cycled. I can't emphasize enough, everyone please LOOK into the chamber as you cycle the slide to clear a pistol. Removing the mag and cycling the slide does not guarantee the gun is empty. By the way, the gun functioned flawlessly other than that isolated issue. There were no more instances of it having a live round stay in the chamber when it shouldn't.

Try the Lehigh 10mm Penetrator round. I saw 22plinkster test that round against a bullet resistant laminated polycarbonate (i assume) glass/plate. The regular range round did not penetrate the plate any better than a 9mm. But the Lehigh Penetrator went right through. Short but interesting video.

I ❤️ my G40. Out of the 10mm pistols I've used, I shot my best group with the G40. Colt, S&W, Springfield, and Glock 20 and 40, I like the G40 best. It really doesn't seem oversized to me but Im 6'8" 285 and I have some serious sausage fingers so maybe that's why. I was just comfortable with it right away. Never tried a Dan Wesson of any caliber or a sig but I hear they're excellent. This one's a nail driver though and that's why I carry it .

Can’t tell you as a Glock fan how much I hate people saying “get rid of those factory sights” though Hickok is a gun god, all these vids are proof there’s nothing wrong with factory sites, why bc they’re polymer? Who’s breaking sights? If that’s the case u for sure are breaking the fiber optic ones then.

I remember hickok commenting on .357 sig as having a lot (implying too much) blast. I don't see much consistency in liking the 10 but not liking the 357 very much. They are both a little nasty.
@vikingsoftpaw9 жыл бұрын
+notsoserious09 .and both are best for the handloader to keep ammo cost down.
@HughesEnterprises9 жыл бұрын
The .357 sig feels snappier to me rather than having a harder recoil. Each caliber has their place and both are good for what they were designed for.
@notsoserious09449 жыл бұрын
I would love to make the leap into hand loading but it's just a few buck too far right now. I don't find the .357 objectionable but one of those 10mm looked pretty hot. I got the feeling Hickok really didn't care for the Sig.
@notsoserious09449 жыл бұрын
fairly proportional tho eh? I mean heavier G20/21 with a much heavier pellet and lighter G19/17 with 9mm. Besides..and I'm not losing sleep over this..he kept referring to the blast as objectionable. Personally, I get a weird finger pinch/whack shooting the .357, which I don't enjoy but I find some kind of satisfaction in the load for some reason. Weird.

@condition17579 жыл бұрын
You do need shorter screws as the ones for the Trijicon are actually too long. You also need a special mounting plate to go between the slide an the sight which costs $8. The screws do need to be filed down. I have an RMR on my G20 Gen 4.Also you will want a KKM barrel or some other aftermarket barrel for this which is not made yet because it does not shoot lead worth a damn. Underwood 230gr Hard Cast Lead is potent but doesn't like Glock Factory barrels. Mine was keyholing at 25 yards.

Hey Hickok the frame of the G40 is an unaltered G20 gen 4 frame, because it has the dual recoil spring assembly is the reason the G40 slide wouldn't fit on your G20 gen 3. Really enjoyed your review on the G40, been waiting for it since January lol
