Weitnau - Hellengerst (G - BY) The bells of S. Stefan curch

The oldest bell was made in 1516 by Biberacher Gießhütte bell foundry and was a famous bell back in the days.
In the time of "Thirty Years' War" it was feared the bell could attack military forces or raiders to Hellengerst. So back then the big bell was deliberately damaged with iron nails to weaken its sound. These nails can be seen today.
In 1700, bell N°[2] was made by bell founder Schirmeister in Kempten.
In 1969, three modern bells were made by bell foundry Perner in Passau.
