Wow...I came here after watching Griselda. .. reminds me of my late uncle...he used to play this songs when I was a little boy. He loved life and lived the best of his youth. Sadly we lost him in 2022 due to diabetes. He was 62 years old. So I bet in the 80s he was in his 20s and living the best of his youth.

@@kristinafontaine3211 I think a lot of that was affect. Gloria will sound like she’s straining on an ordinary note and then rise up a third higher and hit it perfectly. Also she was notorious for doing 2 hr concerts and pulling them off without cracking a note. In belt- pop that’s really hard to do. Given her longevity, and that she really improved as a singer before hitting the wall, she must have trained her voice studiously.

Back when I worked at the Limelight in NYC, where the DJs overplayed this in '84, we made up a bunch of alt versions, "won't you help me wash my feet" was the most tame one.
