Gloria - Tribute to Laura Branigan (1952-2004)

This "Gloria" music video is a tribute to Laura Branigan, a four-time Grammy Award nominee, who died at the age of 52 from cerebral aneurysm in August 2004. Branigan's high-octane remake of Gloria (lyrics by Trevor Veitch) was a top disco hit of the 1980s. It stayed on the US Billboard Hot 100 for 36 weeks, a record for a solo female artist at the time.
Gloria was in Branigan's words "a character study of a girl that's running too fast for her own steps." The song appeared in the 1983 movie Flashdance (starring Jennifer Beals & Michael Nouri) but was not included in its soundtrack album. The original version of Gloria is a 1979 Italian pop song written and composed by Umberto Tozzi and Giancarlo Bigazzi.

As of 6/17/22 is when I first learned of her passing. This is a sad sad day for me because Laura was my favorite singer of all and I have heard many at the age of 71. Met her in San Francisco at the height of her career. She came to the Castro Gramaphone Record store. She was beautiful and I got a kiss from her. As a young gay boy growing up in S F, she was a bright light for the gay community and she knew it. Heartbroken when she passed. i was born on april 1994 . i never knew her. until i watch random videos of power of love . And i watch her version and i was amzed by her voice it's cery unique . I can't describe how good she is. Now i am watching all of her vid and i can't really stop admiring her. Sadly when i check her wiki/about her life . I found out that she passed away last 2004 and it sadden me i don't know why. Aww. You just broke my heart, sweet thing. Reminiscing always leaves me broken... feeling the same way. At 52 she was taken away far too soon. As unfair as that may seem, was it? She had just sacrificed her career to stay by her loving husbands side and give her everything caring for him until he died. She lost the love of her life. I imagine her pain was inconsolable. How many people would sacrifice everything like Laura did these days. Maybe, for Laura, her death was a blessing. She died quickly, unexpectedly, and in her sleep. A pain free, anxiety free death is one we can only wish for. Unlike her husband, whom she watched suffer, knowingly every minute of every day. I like to believe, now she’s in a far sweeter place. Perhaps even somehow reunited with her husband. A place that awaits all those w a heart as selfless as hers.

This is a Fantastic compilation of Laura at different times just killing it with Gloria. As a young guy in the 80's it WAS this much fun, and full of life in America. Laura just exemplifies the time, and joy of it. The Blues story is magical-- a philly bar, and last to 1st. Like many others, I had no idea Laura had left us. This was meant to be-- Laura/Gloria/Philly and St. Louis. Lord what a couple weeks for Hockey.
