Two things: - Thank you to our British allies for the beautiful Merlin engine. - You learn something new everyday -- I did not realize the Spitfire tailwheel did not retract. Maybe it's this particular aircraft, or this particular model. Wonderful airplane.

The sound of those Merlins was a pretty epic wake up call for the people camping at the circuit, shame they couldn't do another flyover later in the day once more people had turned up.

I'd love to see some more warbirds like the stunning Mosquito or Bristol Beaufighter or Catalina and Lancaster but you just never see them anymore Are there any still flying or are they too valuable?

There's a New Zealand outfit which has produced a few flying Mosquitos, but they all seem to get exported to the US. They have their own mould and make new fuselages.

Yeah, i don't think it's lockable on a Spit (but i could be wrong.) It might just be the effect of slamming the rudder back and forth in that vicious crosswind- which appeared to be approaching the limit where Duxford tend to leave their Spitfires in the hangar. (In 1940 they would have brushed it off but they're more cautious these days..)

No trouble at all. That is perfectly normal on a Spit. Tail wheel is fully castering, with no lock, so it'll just swivel in the breeze!

@@orsonwelles5549 Sadly at this event, it means flying directly over the crowd constantly, which was never too much of a problem. But since the Shoreham Hunter accident, public display flying in the UK has taken a downturn :(
