Why are you not quoting other scriptures like He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I Corinthians 14:4 NKJV For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. Here it is...I want to be a missionary to India but I don't know the language. God miraculously gives me the gift of speaking the Hindi language...this is the gift of speaking in tongues. Nothing more, nothing less. That's what tongues were about on the day of Pentecost, that's what tongues are about today. And, do you know anyone who has received that particular gift? Why not? I Corinthians 13:8.

If you were able to communicate in a known language that was unknown to you, that would be authentic "speaking" in tongues. This can happen, possibly does happen, but not often. This was a miraculous sign given on Pentecost to the disciples so they could preach the Gospel of the New Covenant with Jews who were in Jerusalem to celebrate the holiday. They came from various places, and were able to hear the Gospel in their own languages, so they could then take the Gospel back to where they came from. These were Jews who needed miraculous proof that the New Covenant in the blood of Jesus was truly from God. After the first century, when the church was fully established, all of the apostolic miraculous gifts where replaced with something absolutely perfect, prophetic and revealing: the Bible. Tongues were not heard of again until just over 100 years ago when the Pentecostal Movement began. It has grown since then, but is full of false teachings and practices. I was in that movement for 20 years. It is very bad. There are many fake miracles and fake tongues and all kind of deceptions in the Charismatic and Pentecostal churches. None of the great reformers of the church, Luther, Calvin, Knox, etc. taught any such things as tongues, modern apostles, prophets, etc. PS. I LOVE Bro. Francis and share his videos frequently, even though I don't speak Hindi/Urdu. I am trying to learn Urdu. It is very hard.

I Agree with you br. Francis on all you said except for some little yet important things. 1. Tongues sirf gharpe bolne ke liye nahi hai. If there's an interpreter of tongues, we can speak before unbelievers and if theres no interpreter, we should rather prophesy. 2. This verse talks about speaking in tongues without interpretation before unbelievers, and not the church. ( If we don't speak before any believer at all, how will we know if they have the gift of interpretation in the first place?) 3. Tongues are indeed for a sign. But it is not simply a sign. It has a greater purpose as the bible says He who speaks in tongues is speaking to God ( 1 Cor 14:2) and edifying oneself and also is speaking mysteries. 4. (To Br. Akbar) No. Every listener doesn't always understand what someone is speaking in tongues, unless the Lord reveals it to them by the gift of interpretation. For ex:- ( 1.Only a few Jews "heard" the tongues spoken by the disciples in their own languages and the other [unelected] Jews felt like theyre drunk. 2. Paul himself makes it clear that tongues are not understandable without the gift of interpretation.)

Paul exhorts these things so that our gatherings be disciplined and in order (verse 40). Hence if the congregation decently segregates some time of the communion for praise, worship and speaking in tongues, there's no harm in doing it orderly. I know that you and I do not necessarily disagree on these topics, however I felt like clarifying these subjects when I heard the discussion.
