i quite like how the henderson animations characterize Angus. All we ever really got before was that he's very determined and a little introspective every now and then. It's cool to see stuff like dropping his hammer and approaching his friend to boop the evil out of him. And the "OHSHIT" face whenever he's getting thrown around is a fun touch too. Makes him feel like an actual dude getting into wild adventures maybe the tiniest bit out of his depth.

ONe thing I love about Henderson animations is the personal flair in each character's movements. Like Zargo having that theatrical swagger befitting of any big bad evil guy. Not to mention the very small moments of hesitancy in Angus which are quickly turned into more bolstered postures. Tells a tale of hero with some self-doubt, but who is not going to let that be an obstacle.

I am thinking like Angus is a different guy every time, so giving each iteration (except Angus McFyfe XIII, who appeared twice) a different personality would be awesome. Like the Dad of this Angus for example is by far the most bloodthirsty and violent Angus, Angus II is far more friendship oriented and Angus XIII is by far the most heroic one.

I think it was more that they just wanted to capitalize on him being popular, and I have nothing against that because it turned into a good song.

The version of the final battle shown in the video cuts into the flow of how it was played in 'Maleficus Geminus,'and contradicting elements of his death as originally sung. So, I do not see the video as gospel (proverbially speaking), but I do see the song as canon to the album as originally intended. Setting it after 'Sword Lord of the Goblin Horde' not only introduces us to the Robot Prince as a character, but also to his musical theme. It also helps cap off what I perceive to be ACT 2 of this story. Listening to the final act with the musical and lyrical context of this song in mind makes it much more powerful when that classic Robot Prince of Auchtertool theme plays during his final moments, and cements him as a real character in this world alongside Angus, the Hootsman, and everyone else. This song isn't a cash grab. It's a forgotten scroll of ancient knowledge unused til now by the authorial storyteller we call Gloryhammer.

Chris seems like the kind of DM where the campaign goes completely off the rails and he just rolls with it and the result is an adventure that's completely cracked out and so much more awesome than originally intended. Like it started out as a standard quest to defeat an evil wizard but took a crazy hard left turn into futuristic space adventure and alternate timelines, Hootsgods, double wizards and robot princes.

Now I'm just thinking, but considering how the Robot Prince has been around since the youth of Angus McFifth II, and since the Vorpal Laserblaster was never properly searched for prior to the Alpha-1's awakening, what if the Vorpal Laserblaster is the Robot Prince's arm, the one Ralathor was holding that got separated from the Robot Prince after the other mechs were corrupted years ago?

It's a neat idea, but the Vorpal Laserblaster is one of the 3 weapons created by the starlords, along with the Hammer of Glory and the Knife of Evil, so it predates our prince by a bit. That and if he had the VLB he would be absolutely busted, not to mention that Zargothrax's clone steals the Blaster close to end of the last album, so no one on the good side of things ever gets their hands on it

@@mikenorthrop5815 You are completely correct in that assessment, however I was more speaking about said laserblaster being incorporated into the Robot Prince during construction (it being the reason why he wasn't affected by the Knife of Evil until actually being stabbed with it, unlike the other robots in the video as they succumbed when the creator robot did), along with that the animation continuity is slightly different to the main lore of the albums (see the Keeper of the Celestial Flames video wherein it isn't Clone Alpha-1 with the Laserblaster that frees Zargothrax, but Angus II with the Hammer of Glory). In any case it was a What-if style thought, mostly inspired some speculations and rumours (ie rumours that the magic dragon was supposed to be a mecha beast, but was scrapped because another band had a similar idea, so instead Magic Dragon was a decent compromise, and then speculations that with how various dragons in Gloryhammer songs are said to have 'laser fire breath' that the dragons are either guardians of the Laserblaster, or are mystical/mechanical constructs housing the Laserblaster inside of them, then taking those ideas, the various weapons that the Robot Prince has, plus with the final line of this song saying that "The Robot Prince Will Return" it made me think, 'Ok what-if the Robot Prince is the chosen wielder of the Vorpal Laserblaster, and that he incorporates it into his systems, and since we don't see Alpha-1 wielding the Laserblaster, but he's the one that stabs the Robot Prince, maybe that's how he steals it'

My thoughts on this single/video...... 1) The Astral Dwarves of Aberdeen walked so the Robot Prince could run 2) The climax gave off some major Iron Giant Vibes 3) I loved Proletius' Lute solo during the battle 4) Alex's animation elevates an already excellent song to new heights 5) Now the catchiest chorus from Return of the Kingdom of Fife gets a full song. Plus great backstory for RPOA, the Mecha-King looks like a mash up of Yhorm the Giant and High Lord Wolnir from Dark Souls III fused (Fun fact: Cellardyke is a real town east of Anstruther in Fife) 6) This was a pleasant surprise, and a great way to musically put a bow on 2024.

I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way, but I think Alex does Gloryhammer better than Gloryhammer. The music video for Keeper of the Celestial Flame was the most engaged I've ever been in any Gloryhammer content, and now he's managed to make me like the Robot Prince (at risk of sounding heretical, apparently). As someone who thought Maleficus Geminus was a weak finish for the album (not musically but storywise, one of the very few times I can say that), and whose second least favorite part was the Robot Prince, having these visuals accompanying his role adds a lot. Showing him struggle against the Knife of Evil rather than just say he died without mentioning him actually contributing to the fight, introducing some backstory between him and Angus that is reincorporated in the final battle, and of course the character/set designs and overall animation of both action sequences and emotional moments. It's phenomenal. I get the sense that Alex takes Gloryhammer more seriously than the actual band members (which knowing Chris maybe isn't saying a lot), all without losing the signature tongue-in-cheek tone. I don't mean for this to come across as trash-talking the band, I've listened to them since Rise of the Chaos Wizards for a reason, I'm just not sure how else to articulate how these videos reignite my enthusiasm for their music in a way nothing else does.

It's why I love them so much - they perfectly understand that they're writing over the top fantasy bullshit, and they always embraced it fully. They shouldn't take themself seriously. Look at the Robot Prince himself. He was introduced right before the final song, had a few chorus in finale, was killed while doing basically nothing... and he became a meme among fans. Boba Fett of gloryhammer universe even. People loved him for what he was. So how could his depiction be bad, if he was well liked? As for anticlimactic ending of fourth album - second one ended with nearly every ally of Angus been killed, Hootsman discovering that he has a neutron star inside of him, and blowing up the Earth. Third - with god Hootsman arriving to save the day, when everyone else failed to stop Zargothrax ascension to godhood. Why are Starlords anticlimactic, when Deus Ex endings were staple of Gloryhammer albums?

But since you're asking and I personally do like lots of words, I'll happily indulge you. Since that wasn't enough to convey my meaning, I'll elaborate: "Not taking something seriously" could mean anything from "not being too stuck-up about it" to "not caring". What made me a fan of Gloryhammer was that I got the sense that there was love and thought put into the songs despite the goofiness. They weren't taking themselves seriously, but they were taking the quality of their work seriously. In later years, I've at times gotten the impression that this isn't the case, and it's more of a cynical "We don't need to try that hard". Whether this is true or not is besides the point, what matters more is how the music comes across to the listener (Death of the author and all). And that is the kind of "not taking it seriously" that I'm not into. When I say that Alex seemingly takes it more seriously, I don't mean that he's making the fanboy mistake of insisting that it's way deeper than plebs realize and no laughing matter at all. No, he knows what makes Gloryhammer fun and he obviously puts a lot of effort into making that shine. That is the good kind of "taking it seriously". Acknowledging the silly aspects of something but still being passionate about it. "How could his depiction be bad, if he was well liked?" I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but that sounds a lot like "How can [movie you dislike] be bad if many other people like it?" Appeals to popularity aren't very useful because a lot of people can be wrong at once, so focusing on their reasoning is usually a better idea. But that aside, I'll explain why I personally did not like his depiction. My primary issue with him is actually musical rather than narrative. He just hijacks the song for a couple verses, changing the tone to something that clashes with the rest of the cataclysmic feel. I find that this is disruptive and detracts from a song I otherwise really like musically. I don't hate the idea though; I always believed that he should have had his own song earlier in the album, and then his first part in Maleficus Geminus could be cut while the second part could serve as reincorporation. So basically, in an alternate timeline where this song was on the album and his first part in the finale was rewritten to fit the rest of the song, I would probably have liked him too. "Why are Starlords anticlimactic, when Deus Ex endings were staple of Gloryhammer albums?" I never did mention that this was my issue with the song. There are actually several bits that bothered me, but they're too minor to get into here since the reply is already long enough; my biggest gripe was indeed the Starlords, but not for the reasons you suggest. I will say though, as an aside, them having done it before doesn't mean it's still just as okay. I know a lot of metal fans don't mind receiving pretty much the same thing over and over, but I personally get bored of that after a bit. The third album didn't get me as excited as the previous two because I was kinda getting the sense of "I get it, I've heard this", and I found the change of singer to be a much-needed breath of fresh air for the band's sound that helped elevate my enjoyment of their fourth album. Similarly, the formula of the narrative is starting to wear on me a little. I get that having recurring themes is fun, but I'm ready for them to change it up a bit more. Do something absurd like setting an album in an alternate dimension where everyone is genderbent and they get a female guest singer for Princess Agnes, I don't know. But anyway, detour over, back to my main point. As for my actual issue with the Starlords, it's simply that they _wipe out the entire planet._ Not just the bad guys or those involved in the conflict, everyone everywhere even beyond Fife's borders. It's one thing when the Hootsman does it to save many more lives because they can't think of a better way. But these guys were just upset that people played with their toys in a way they didn't like, and countless innocents died for it. Which would be fine if it was, you know, acknowledged. But there's no mention of Angus having any ethical concerns with this, and that's what really bothers me. It feels like a colossal oversight that leaves a bad aftertaste. I hope that covers it. If not, I probably won't mind trying again. I don't get to discuss my thoughts on this band that often.

There are so many wonderful touches in this animation! The stream chat in the Robot Prince's mind all going 'F', the unicorn horn lodged up his ass according to an error message, getting the whole band fighting. Hoots getting bonked by a leg That wonderful back to back segment, which - REALLY hard to do in 2d, with the rotation by the way. Love how the Robot Prince works with Angus there, rotating out of the way of the chain. The final backflip to get his friend to safety while they share one more look The shield march as the music absolutely SWELLS is my favorite part of the entire song. Zargothrax licking the knife of evil on his way out JUST to taunt the Robot Prince. 1:17 - The Robot Prince's severed arm points at Angus - Or perhaps the altar his head is at. Also the Nuclear Chaos Protocol activates in 1:30 at the 3:00 mark. It detonates at the 4:20 mark, just ten seconds off!
