This video gave me the courage to do my first car repair. This thing has been bugging me for months. Thank you. Also, I dont keep gloves in my glove box, but everything i kept in there did fall out because I got overexcited.😅

@PAMELAChanze Hey thanks for the question, the blend door actuator is part of the vehicles heating and cooling system. So if it is stuck in one position it could prevent cold air..or heat from passing thru. There's many reasons for the temperature to be wrong including lack of free on, low Coolant in the radiator or bad ac compressor. But if you're having the noise as demonstrated in this video and trouble controlling temperature or fan direction i.e. floor, vent or defrost then odds are the blend door actuator is to blame!! Good Luck and Happy Wrenching!

Great video. Very helpful. Be aware that there is also an actuator on the right side of the glove box opening mounted on the blower housing. That’s the one that went on my 2012 impala. Same replacement part but those screws are extremely difficult to navigate to.

There are actually two of those actuators behind the passenger glove box. The second one is on the right side of the fan. They are identical, and both of them can go out and make that same repeating clicking sound. The other one operates the large accordian damper that goes up and down on top of the fan.

If any of you are having issues I had to take off the right one instead of the left one that he showed in the video. And I found it much easier to use only the socket and not the wrench and two just do it by hand. It also might be beneficial to take off the bottom plastic piece underneath of your glove box and to take the entire glove box out to give you more room.

@minutemaintenance7385 Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! I'm sorry you're having this issue and the swap didn't fix the problem! The cheby Malibu and impala with dual climate control has 3 total blend door actuators!! 1 on the opposite side of the center console as I describe in this video, the 1 changed and then 1 on the right hand side behind the glove box!! If you can, lower the glove box as shown in this video, when the clicking sound starts reach in and physically touch the 2 blend door actuators behind the glove box, you will be able to feel the clicking happening. This will narrow down which 1 is acting up (possible the new one you bought could be bad, they are mass produced and sit on shelves for extended periods of time I've had new off the shelf fail on me within hours before)..if neither of the 2 behind the glove box are clicking, means the likely culprit is the 3rd blend door actuator on the driver's side! Hope this helped and Happy Wrenching!
@johnrush45712 жыл бұрын
Thanks, not just what, but how to. Added a like. My '08 Impala is doing this, so time to replace. An additional concern is if I don't address it soon, it might run down the battery, as the noise often occurs when I open a door, without turning the car on. It's definitely the passenger side, but I wonder how long before the driver's side actuator goes (the odometer shows 74K+ miles). Also, you used a Dorman replacement part. Where I live, the only parts stores are Napa, O'Reilly, and CarQuest (still so named, despite being bought by Advance), plus the Bowtie dealer. Which is recommended? I have a 1/4" socket wrench with an extension and a universal, so that might help a bit with leverage. winter gloves remain in the coat pockets. I only carry work gloves in vehicles. In the Dodge truck, I put them on the floor behind the driver's seat; in the Impala, they're in the console storage unit. The glove box is for the owner's manual, plus other paperwork (registration, insurance, receipts for parts and repairs), and a flashlight.
@minutemaintenance73852 жыл бұрын
Love it 😀 haha...for whatever reason I've always seen the Passenger go out! The Drivef has to sometime but just as easy to swap. I'm an O'Reilly guy all day long!! But as far as Brand for Parts..depends on the Vehicle..daily driver doesn't matter save money buy generic..My Truck, Motorcycle...52' Chevy...when Performance Matters you go Name Brand!

Great vid - thanks! Generally, the better someone is at doing mechanical things, the worse they are at teaching it. That's because left-brain people are born great at understanding mechanical things, and right-brain people are born great at communicating. But appx 1 out of every 5,000 men have a right-left brain balance and can do both. True story. I'm sure you notice evidence of that ability throughout your entire life. I also have it.
@jermiah1233212 жыл бұрын
Hey man thanks for this information, but I do have a question if you don't mind. My impala is making this exact same sound from the glovebox. But it blows out hot air. It does not however blow out cold air. Would I need to replace this actuator, or the one found further in the back?
@minutemaintenance73852 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Partner! If it's making the same noise I'd say so, you've got a bad Blend Door Actuator. The Noise is the Biggest clue, next would be a lack of Proper Air Flow...be it Temperature or Direction! I think you're on the right path, swap it out!!

Driving no not at all. The Noise will he annoying...but after a few min will stop..but will come back again. The most important thing is itll prevent you from having good air flow for heat or ac...so visibility thru the windshield may be effected based on temperature!

I just can’t seem to get this new actuator on and it’s frustrating.
@minutemaintenance7385 Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to hear that boss, it can be tricky given the space to work with. If you have the original one you removed, take a look and see if the motors are lined up in the same direction and that they're identical designs. If the alignment of the new actuator is off you'll have to adjust it, normally by plugging it INTO the harness without actually connecting it to the Blend door, turn the car on and the actuator will begin to rotate then shut it off when it's similar alignment as the old one. Most actuators have detailed instructions in the box on how to adjust them.
@mrbushido3 Жыл бұрын
@@minutemaintenance7385 thank you for replying to my comment as it was mostly just out of frustration. I didn’t end up seeing your comment till not but I successfully got it on but connecting it and as it rotated I was trying to put it on till it slid right on. I would not recommend this technique as I almost ripped the wires because the screws weren’t there to stop it from rotating. I agree with everyone else tho you video was nice quick and easy.
