Thank you so much, my machine wasn’t working and glowforge quoted me $2000 usd for a refurbished unit…. I followed this, found the short, repaired it how you said, and it started working 😭😭 I’m over the moon. I’m so grateful for you

Quick question, Underneath the glowforge Pro in that channel where all the wires are tucked in, what is the tiny white for? I took off the metal plate to look for shorts in the main Red wire and noticed that torn the white housing on the lone white wire..... What should I do about it? What's that wire for?

Any input on how to remove the spring loaded wheels at the bottom of the gantry? Or what the spring loaded bracket is called?

Greetings Greetings Thanks for your videos. My machine stopped working, it won't turn on, it sounded like an explosion, but it won't turn on again. Is it possible that there was a short in the cable? or is it something else?
@EricLian9 ай бұрын
My my very lightly used glowforge is only a couple of years old and this happened to me. I turned on the machine, the head moved as expected, but the laser didn't fire. I'm going to check the wire when I get a chance. Thank you very for covering this information. I'm curious though; why repair the cable and risk another failure instead of replacing the cable? Is replacing the cable an impossible option?
@Cruizin5429 ай бұрын
So there isn’t a solid time frame on how long the patch will last. And replacing the cable as an assembly is not possible since it’s built into the power supply. We are working on a splice kit but currently it’s not an option.
@EricLian6 ай бұрын
I finally got around to checking the red, high voltage cable and there are no obvious signs of damage. I went as far as pulling the cable through the plastic chain guide and removed the silver plate under the machine in case the damage was hidden there. I didn't see any damage and carefully checked the cable from end to end several times. Is it still possible the issue is the power supply even though the laser head moves when the program is initiated? At this point, I would either elect to get a different machine or stop laser engraving altogether. Thank you!
@Cruizin5426 ай бұрын
If the laser head moves like its engraving, but the laser is not firing them the power supply is bad. It can short internally
@terrysimmons5969Ай бұрын
@Cruizin542 What do you mean shorting internally. Mine is doing what you're saying and I took apart as well but see no damage. The unit is 1 year old and less than 30 hours on it. Thank for any help of explaining internal shorting. Thank you

How do I secure the laser to put it in its side to remove the bottom plate? Also will this mess with the alignment or the mirrors?
@Cruizin54210 ай бұрын
You can use the lock screws it came with or painters tape works. No so long the tube is not taken loose it will not mess with the alignment.

Great video. Mine has just stopped firing. How do you tell the difference between a tube that's broken and this red wire short? It did seem to happen all of a sudden so could that point to a red wire fault?
@jon2487 Жыл бұрын
Followed your tutorial and found a small pinhole on my red wire where it must be shorting. Going to try the fix you suggested. Great content and massive thank you for the help.

Any chance you know of anyone repairing the psu it self? I dissasembled mine and removed the high voltagw part, looks like the first stage of the psu is dead by its self. Id love to find information if anyone knows of commonly blown components, if not ill get all the power electronics engineers at work to have a look and maybe we can write something up..
@Cruizin5422 ай бұрын
No we have done basic repairs, but the problem is there are no schematics at all. And visually there is never anything blown off the board. So isolating the issue is very difficult since it’s proprietary information.

I just did this to my machine and I’m praying it works!!! How long should I wait before testing it?

Let the liquid tape dry for a few hours then cover in heat shrink. Good news is there is a kit to replace the wire and a video on my channel showing how to do it.

How much do u charge to fix? I will drive it all the way from Wisconsin 🥴
@corysmithson80637 ай бұрын
do you only unhook the wire from one end?
@Cruizin5427 ай бұрын
The other end is built into the power supply.
@gee55559 ай бұрын
What if it turns on but nothing moves. The camera doesn't move and try and focus and the whole carriage. The start button also does not light up? Also no light in the laser tube?
@Cruizin5429 ай бұрын
Not sure join the friendliest glowforge group on Facebook and ask and we will see what we can do.
@todddavis771611 ай бұрын
Will this cause the unit to not turn on?
@Cruizin54211 ай бұрын
No, if it won’t turn on at all more than likely the power supply has failed.
@fargo2win Жыл бұрын
Can you just replace the entire wire?
@Cruizin542 Жыл бұрын
No it’s built into the power supply

I only wish you had told me to slide on the heat shrink before pulling out the wire.
@Cruizin542 Жыл бұрын
I don’t understand you can’t install the heat shrink with the wire installed. You have to remove it find damage, then cover with heat shrink then reinstall.
@lazeredbykingdomcustoms2835 Жыл бұрын
@@Cruizin542ok I just don’t know what I’m doing. Am I supposed to cut the heat shrink to wrap it around it?
@lazeredbykingdomcustoms2835 Жыл бұрын
@@Cruizin542I have never done electrical work before. Just trying this in hopes that I don’t have to send in for another refurb. You didn’t show how much liquid tape, how you got the tubing on, or how long I should wait inbetween each process. I don’t want to mess anything up 😬
@Cruizin542 Жыл бұрын
You fill the hole don’t go over board. As far as the heat shrink you do not cut it you slide it over the wire from the tip then apply heat to it once it’s over the effected area. If this doesn’t fix it you are looking to replace the entire power supply.
@lazeredbykingdomcustoms2835 Жыл бұрын
@@Cruizin542thank you. How long after I fill with tape do I wait to apply the wrap?
