You can now order you're own Nori Lights System for your bike! Visit www.NoriLights.com to place an order.
The New version of the Nori Lights is now for sale on our site, and it's only $59.99
Please help spread the word! This is a video of my beach cruiser bike with the original glowing wheels kit that i call the Nori Lights.
This video shows the old/original version of my wheel illumination system. We have released the new Nori Lights v.2, which can be seen on NoriLights.com and on / norilights . The new v.2 offers several advantages over the previous version. Check it out.
I named this the "Nori Lights", after my Grandfather, Nori.
Because of the response that I received to the original video (check it out on my channel), I have designed this version to be packaged as a kit that can easily be applied to any bike! If your bike uses a rim braking system, check and see if there is at least 1/4" of rim surface that does not contact the brake pad. If the pad touches the whole side rim surface, check if you have a "v" shaped inner rim edge. If you don't have any surface to mount the glowing stripes, I have a inner rim extension called "c-rings" that acts as an adapter. Just contact me and I'll help you get set up.
To order a Nori Lights kit for your bike, your kids, your friends, whoever, go to our website, NoriLights.com
If you have any questions, please contact me at:
NoriLights@gmail.com
The version in this video is now outdated, but still offered an improved design compared to the prototype, and it didn't use spray paint or bulky tubes, or heavy batteries. It is more compact, much brighter & was powered by just 2 AA lithium batteries it will run bright for over 150 hours. I have spent the last 4 years researching & testing materials, & I am very happy with the final results.
There were hundreds of materials that I had to test until i found what gave the best results.
Please subscribe and spread the word! Share this video, "like" if you like, and I'd love to read your comments. Thanks!

This and one other solution to lighting wheels are the only real innovative ways I've seen this achieved, everything else is just battery packs and lights. Simple, elegant, well done! Take my money please.

Thank you so much! My intentions were to illuminate the contour of the wheels, which makes the bike a recognizable icon to other drivers. There are other wheel lights out there, but the Nori Lights does not require the rider to mount batteries on the wheel. Seemed dangerous to me to have batteries zipping around like that. Instead, the batteries are stationary on the frame and charge up the Nori Light stripes wirelessly through UV light.

Jayarjo, great question. Personally, I really don't like feeling resistance when I pedal. There are a number of new "friction less or resistance free dynamo's", but they are either waaay to expensive or they aren't really friction-less or resistance free. I am looking into a new and unique approach to collecting and generating current from the wheels. Stay tuned to find out more... Thanks for watching.

The bike in the video is a beach cruiser. The brake is inside the hub. For bikes with rim brakes, the majority of rims have at least 1/4 inch - 1/2 inch of side surface that is not contacted by the brake pad. Sometimes all it takes is adjusting bolt holding the brake pad to sit a little higher or lower. Additionally, many bike rims feature a beveled edge that connects the side wall of the rim to where the spokes connect. This beveled edge is a great location to mount the Nori Glow Stripes.

Thanks for the info J Whit. I looked it up, and the "new glow paint" the firemen are testing isn't really all that new. Even though I'm sure it's effective and more helpful than not using any glow material, the chemical makeup of the Nori glow material is superior to the glow technology the fire departments are testing.... but this is a brilliant application of it and now I may need to look into contacting the local fire departments as well. Thanks for sharing!

I use Norilights on my bike since end of last year. It works great on the rear wheel, but I haven´t found a proper way of installing the pods on my suspension fork. The construction doesn´t allow for the pods to get fixed anywhere there, so that I can point the light to the rim. I have a couple of ideas how to solve this, but still working on it. Suspension forks are probably not very common in the USA for an urban bike, but they are in Germany/EU. Literally any urban or so called trekking bike is equipped with a suspension fork.
@flynnfilms
@flynnfilms 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Kai, I was going to ask you to send me a photo of your suspension forks, but I did a quick search and found an email from you. I'm so sorry if I didn't respond. I try to stay on top of all the emails I receive, but I missed yours. I apologize. Looking at the photo in your email, it appears that you have a type of rim that would allow for installing the stripes "lower" (in relation to the fork) down and allowing the stripes to align with the pods just below the suspension. To clarify, looking at the side of the rim, it looks like there is a reflective strip there, and moving away from the tire, towards the inner edge of the rim, there is a black section of the rim. Installing the stripes here would allow you to install the pods lower on your forks. If am mistaken or am not making sense, send me an email, again. I'll be able to respond and help however I can. Thanks for letting us know Kai.

I love the concept, and something like this could be great as a dynamo-powered system... My only concerns are finding a place to mount the strip that doesn't interfere with pad brakes, and how dark does it have to be for this system to be clearly visible?

+Tetsujin I was thinking the same thing, my break pads would rub it off. The new breaks they have now days will work. Disk breaks dont rub the rims. But all 3 of my bikes have rubber break pads. i cant afford the big $$$ bikes.
@flynnfilms
@flynnfilms 8 жыл бұрын
+Tetsujin The stripes are extremely bright, they can be seen easily even if there is some ambient light. Also, I just installed rim brakes on my bike with no problems. I'll post a video, but basically, I just placed the stripes on the beveled edge of my rim on my rear wheel. On the front wheel I simply adjusted the brake pad to contact the rim a little higher, and then placed the stripes below it. Easy and it works perfectly.
@flynnfilms
@flynnfilms 8 жыл бұрын
+Jojo Gun Fang No need to buy disk brakes. Just place the stripes on the beveled edge or re-align your brake pad to contact higher or lower on your rim. Here is a video that illustrates it, and I'll post a video showing my bike with rim brakes and how I installed the stripes. Feel free to email me a photo of your wheels/brakes, and I can give you some suggestions. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3q0onWnaNlrgJo&ab_channel=NoriLights email: info@NoriLights.com

@flynnfilms
@flynnfilms 9 жыл бұрын
Short answer: yes. Long answer: No, I am using ultraviolet lights to activate the green phosphorescent stripes. But it's not just typical UV lights and glow-in-the-dark materials. We have specially formulated our stripes specifically for this application. They glow very very bright instantly. We have also increased the efficiency of the system by manufacturing unique LEDs that emit a very narrow range of wavelength, which happens to "excite" the Nori Lights stripes the most. This causes them to glow very bright, instantly. I'll try to post a video soon that illustrates the science behind the Nori Lights. In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to email me at info@NoriLights.com. Thanks for watching!

Chris, I can't tell you how much that means to me. Sorry for the delayed response. But I must say that I share your disappointment with the negativity and narrow mindedness that some people choose to flaunt. The vast majority of comments are incredibly positive, but I've noticed a hesitance in me with posting more videos all because of a handful of trolls. I am trying to focus on the positive comments, listen to the constructive, and let go of the negativity. I have so many more ideas that I want to share, and I'd like to post casually, but it's amazing how destructive negativity can be to creative flow. Chris, I am a business man myself, in fact, I would consider investing in this product if it were a little better and more universal, however, I DO have some advice because I REALLY want you to succeed. I hope you listen to me because I believe this advice I am about to give you will improve your company ALOT. #1 - Make your videos / annotations click-able... right now, they are not. # 2 - Make a second video explaining how it can withstand the weather and answer many other questions *everyone* is asking over and over. # 3 - Make this product have a reflector sticker as well so they can place this over their reflector. I noticed the rims show no sign of motion and at first it doesn't look like your really moving, however, having a moving reflector inside of a solid glowing ring... now THAT is truly eye catching. Lets face it, reflectors don't work AT ALL. #4 - *Dun dun dun DUN* Make the ring bigger so it is designed to attack to the actual tire of the wheel and have the light shining on the tire since the bars not only go past the rims, but the tires as well. Now *ANYONE* regardless of what type of bike they have, can use this product. By putting them on the rim (even though it's metal and not rubber) you will ensure people can use breaks with them, you can send them to bike companies and ask if they will sell your product. One common thing people do is give their product to a company for free, and only ask for a % *IF* they sell a unit, this way the bike shop will feel they have nothing to loose. #5 - Consider having an alternating red/white pattern, maybe 1/4th red, 1/4th white, 1/4th red, 1/4th white, or maybe even solid red and solid white where people can decide what they want to do. Having the red in back and white in front seems to catch people's attention, if that looks tacky, at least having red and white will look more "safe" in addition to having perfectly sized ones for the reflectors... I think you'll go far. Like I said, I am a business man myself and have studied marketing for quite a few years and I know how to boost product sales and all that other mumbo jumbo so I *reeeally* hope you take my advice because in my heart of hearts I believe this is a true winner.

Hey, very nice implementation. I'd been looking at Phosphorescent paint to do this to my Bike because Tron is cool, but I see you got there way ahead of me. Is there any chance you can do more colours of strips? Like blue, or red. Partly because Tron, and partly because, strictly, we're not allowed to show green or blue light on a vehicle in the UK.
@flynnfilms
@flynnfilms 9 жыл бұрын
Bracken Dawson The Nori Lights are legal in the UK. The Light Stripes aren't considered light "sources", instead they fall into the same category as reflective material, even though they are not reflective and they do emit a lot of light. But since they use UV light from the pods to charge, and then emit light over time, they are not considered "sources of light". I am working on a blue stripe material, but the costs are insanely high, so it will take some time. But our original green Light Stripes are the brightest phosphorescent material that I have seen ever. And trust me, I've compared everything.

Right now it's just available in aqua green, because that is the brightest color possible, and the first intentions are to make the rider visible. White, and especially blue would not be as bright or as reactive to the Nori Lights. Each of the elements chosen to make up the Nori Lights are selected specifically for how well they work together. Changing the color would mean sacrificing the "wow" factor when you see these in person. Honestly, the video doesn't do it justice. Good question tho. =]

Wondering if this product would work on a motorbike wheel ?
@flynnfilms
@flynnfilms 11 жыл бұрын
It will work with almost any bike. If your rim brake pads contact the entire side-facing surface of your rims, I have created an adapter that assembles easily between the spokes and almost acts like a rim extension. They are called Nori Lights C-rings. Contact me if you are interested. Thanks for watching!

flynnfilms the drop down menu is kind of confusing, both say for two wheels... I don't get it...
@flynnfilms
@flynnfilms 9 жыл бұрын
S30Uploads Sorry about that. You're right, the wording is not very clear. I will rewrite it tonight to be more descriptive. The two options are offering either a 6 mm (1/4 inch) wide light stripe on each side of each wheel, or a 12 mm (1/2 inch) wide light stripe. The determining factor should be based on how much available side rim surface you have on your wheels. Since your Nori Lights will be going on mopeds, I would expect that they don't use a rim braking system, and therefore you most likely can easily fit a 12 mm wide light stripe on your rims. This will create the most intense illumination. The 12 mm wide option is listed as "2x 6mm" because we still provide you with the 6 mm wide roll of Nori Lights Stripes, but in the 12 mm option we include a second roll. The two 6mm wide stripes get installed side-by-side to create the full 12 mm wide surface light effect. If you're wondering why 2x 6mm wide rolls and not just one 12 mm roll, it's because I have found that if the stripe is too wide, it will not curve around the wheel as well, and may even crease or fold. The solution was to stick with the standard 6 mm width, which conforms much much better to the curvature of various wheel sizes. I don't know if this helped clarify anything or if it caused more confusion. Please let me know either way, so I can improve how to describe the two options. Thank you so much. I will get some graphics and a new written description on the site tomorrow. Feel free to email me at NoriLights at Gmail dot com. Thanks again!

Does this work with pad brakes as well as disk brakes. I was thinking the pad brakes would rub and damage the luminous tape around the rim.
@flynnfilms
@flynnfilms 9 жыл бұрын
The Nori Lights stripes should not be placed any where that would cause it to interfere with the braking system. Usually, rims will have a beveled edge or the brake pad will not contact the entire side of the rim. Sometimes, though, like on my little brothers bike, his brake pad contacted the side of the rim with only a few millimeters free above and below the contact area. So I simply adjusted his brake pad to sit 3mm higher and this left 6 mm of non-braking rim surface available below the brake pad contact point.
