Seems like adhesives can be better, but require greater quality control to ensure they work properly. On the face of it I'd assume that they'd end up costing the same when accounting for money, but that the benefits of adhesives outweigh the costs in most applications, while mechanical fasteners are reliable and rugged but less capable. This is however ignoring other types of bonds such as welding, magnets and bolts. I would say that in terms of material science we have a very long way to go.

I assume you have a better bond if using adhesives across the face of a substrate than if you were to use fasteners around the perimeter. Is that....a good assumption? I bet the answer is "it depends" because it always depends....

Mechanical fasteners can have dampening abilities, like well nuts. Or just using silicone/plastic/rubber washers.

As a layperson I also find mechanical fasteners are going to come loose on me. Normally at the worst time. I expect this is more about me than the fasteners.

anti-screw propaganda. if screws had a week of prep time they could absolutely destroy adhesives, no question. elitist pro-adhesive arguments like these drive me crazy.
