some advice @rocketmoney, stop being SO strict about what people have to say in their bullet points, this ad spot sounds so scripted that it could have been a sitcom with laugh track the shopify ad spot was genuine because hank was able to actually relate to the product and the unscripted nature sold the product much better

Going just by counting the origins of words by country, it’s roughly split evenly between Old English (so Germanic origin), old French (via the Norman invasion in 1066), and Latin (through the church, and also a lot of Latin was probably snuck in via French), the rest of it is Greek (also via the church) or come from other languages (ranging from other European countries to the pre-Germanic Celtic culture of the islands), and a few words that derive from names (like occupation words. The smith in blacksmith shares an origin with the surname Smith..because Germans are both amazing and terrible at naming things) All that said, going by the words that are most commonly used, English is more Germanic than it gets credit for most of the time.

I mean like 2/3 of English vocabulary is either French or Latin. Still a Germanic language linguistically, but with lots of romance words thrown in.
@WowUrFcknHxC
@WowUrFcknHxC Ай бұрын
@phenethylamines it's about 1/3, but if you limit it to the most common words it's much less. Like 1/5 or so. Most of the Romance borrowings are in formal speech.

I guess for solder you have to determine whether the intermetallic bond is beyond the scope of "adhesion" because the lead and tin is actually molecularly bonded with the metal, not just stuck to it on the surface.

Yes, this. And the purpose of soldering is not only to hold the pieces together but to also form a solid electrical connection. To me, its much more than glue.

Fun fact: cash on delivery does still exist, at least in Germany, and is offered regularly by online retailers. They also have the option of sending a letter postage due, though that's a bit more complicated. I do know we offer it at work under certain circumstances, and it freaks people out every single time, even the ones born in the 1920s.

There's no glue in welding, it's all melted metal as is solder, welding bonds by melting the filler material and the workpieces together, the filler material doesn't adhere the two workpieces together it becomes part of them.

One sort-of use of blood glue: I visited an old frontier-era log cabin with what looked like a concrete floor. According to the curator, it was made by spilling ox blood onto raw dirt, tamping down and drying the resulting blood-mud. Perhaps sawdust or straw was added as well?

The album features guest appearances from artists such as Nick Cave, Erykah Badu, Ke$ha, and Chris Martin. Only 10 copies of the blood vinyl were made, and each sold for $2,500. Blood splatter vinyl Other records that feature blood splatter include Desolation by Khemmis, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom by Halsey, and Rambo: The Last Blood by Brian Tyler. Welding definitely isn't glue, unless metal casting is also glue. Welding doesn't melt an adhesive to join surfaces, it melts the surfaces to fuse them and adds some more molten material to fill in the gaps.

I HOPE someone commented here already. Soldering is NOT welding! These are very different. Welding is using the SAME metal or alloy, melting the edges of two pieces, adding extra metal as needed, flowing the melted metal together and letting it cool to solid again. Soldering and brazing melt a low melting alloy to allow it to flow around SOLID metals and then cool to a solid to hopefully hold them together. The pieces being joined are NOT melted themselves, unlike in welding where they are. So... is welding GLUE? I would say not. Take two pieces of some plastic and melt the edges of them together. That is NOT gluing, that is welding.

soldering/welding is different than glue as they chemically bond to the surface and atleast at the interface, they alloy to the surface and become part of it, welding uses the base material or adds material(ie, metal) to bond the surfaces as 1 material so they become 1 item and isnt just a surface effect, tig welding is literally a glue gun but with metal, welders will either hate or fully agree with this comment

There is a pretty significant difference between gluing and welding. While gluing, you're applying a stuff that does the sticking together, whereas welding is selectively melting & joining two objects until they become the same singular object. By that definition, solder and other braising materials are a type of hot glue, whereas welding stock is not. Incidentally, you don't necessarily need a super hot plasma torch to do welding. You can weld plastics together as well, for example, and some substances (confusingly often also called 'glues') are essentially just solvents that end up welding sometimes even very different materials together before drying, essentially forming an alloy along the seam.

Isn't "tape" a shortened way to say "adhesive tape"? The plastic (or other material, like cloth or paper) is the tape; it has an adhesive applied to it. Compare with "measuring tape" or "audio tape" - tape is a strip of some kind.
