Hey Glutanimate! I was wondering is there an add-on out there that ranks you anki decks? For example, whenever you are on the "Decks" screen on Anki I wanted each deck to have a rank, such as Beginner, Intermediate, Expert, Master, etc. Something that is dependent on the number of mature cards you have maybe? And you could also have a little cool icon on the screen while studying as well. If it doesn't exist, would you be interested in creating it? Or is there any other add-ons that add similar functionality?

Update: I found an add-on called "Anki Belts" which ranks your entire profile based on the number of mature cards. When I came across this add-on, I downloaded it to Anki but found that the images for the add-on were no longer available as the original coder had sourced the images from a website and I guess that the website is no longer around. So I changed the image url's for each of the ranks from a game I used to play. All fine and dandy but there are some drawbacks, in that you have to physically click on the add-on by going to the "tools" menu. So it isn't readily part of the visual landscape of Anki and thus it makes the add-on easily forgettable. Also, I think it would be better if we could assign a rank to each of the decks rather than having it as a global rank. The rank would appear on the "Decks" window just like the add-on "Enhanced main window" but to the left of each of the decks. It would also be based on the percentage of cards that have reached mature status as deck sizes can vary. The original "Anki Belts" add-on calculates rank based on fixed amounts. Also, the Anki Belts add-on doesn't have a pop-up window whenever you reach a new rank so again easily forgettable...

Hi! I love the puppy reinforcement add on--however, when I tried to add other pictures, they did not show up in my reviews. When I deleted all of the puppy pictures and kept only my pictures, the new ones still did not show up :( Do you know how to fix this?

Hey Soumya, happy you like the add-on! Do you remember which extension the images had? The add-on should support .jpg images in its current version (plus .jpeg and .png with the next release). Did the other puppy pictures stop showing up after you deleted them?

Haha, I really did fall of the earth on KZbin, didn't I? Sorry about that! I've been meaning to post a video for months now, but it's just been very difficult to find time for video production next to my studies and all my other Anki work. You're right, though. Visual feedback : Get latest release from : github.com/glutanimate/review-feedback/releases Download the .zip file Unzip the .zip file to get a folder Now open the folder and open the src folder underneath it to see a folder with a similar name to the addon Now open anki and go to Tools -> Addons Now without any of the extensions selected, click on view files. In the folder that opens, paste the folder under the src folder which we discussed earlier. Now close the folder and restart anki

I have a question about the progress bar add-on. After watching this video, I downloaded it immediately because I thought it would be a great addition, and I really like it. However, I am noticing that the progress bar never reaches 100%, even when I've completed my new cards and my reviews for the day. I thought perhaps it was because I still had more reviews due in other decks, but when I open a different deck, the bar is completely reset to 0. Is it possible that it is because the decks in question still have "due later" cards? If so, is there any way to modify the code such that the progress bar reflects that day's cards reviews for a given deck rather than the total reviews including those due later? I would explore this myself, however my knowledge of python and coding in general, while not completely non-existent, is extremely limited. Also just to add a thought, I think the it would be very helpful if the progress bar included due cards in addition to review cards. My progress bar only seems to progress when I am looking at review cards, so I can only guess that this is because due cards are not considered.

Great, as always ... many thanks. I'd need 'Progress Bar' for *reviews only* , i.e. *excluding New Cards* , because I'm doing *all* my reviews every day, but I'm time-boxing the study of New Cards because it doesn't matter that much if new cards pile up. Anyway, how ever nice a 'review-only-progress-bar' may be, Anki's own 'card count', while not pretty, does the job for me. The thing I'm still 'Hank'-ering much more after would be automatic, *dynamic* hint generation, that would be *such a time saver* ... Plus, *dynamic* hints would be more challenging and better for learning, instead of having the same, static hint each time a card comes up for review.

Hey Hank, happy to see you again. Glad you've been enjoying these videos. I also pile up a lot of new cards for later use and I've actually modified my own local copy of the Progress Bar add-on for that exact reason! Here's how you can do the same: 0. Open the source code of the add-on in Anki's editor as demonstrated in the video 1. Find the getMX() function which should be located somewhere around line 145. 2. Within that function find the line that says `total = rev + nu + lrn` (should be l. 150) 3. Replace this line with the following: `total = rev + lrn` 4. Save the add-on and restart Anki The Progress Bar should now only apply to review cards and cards in learning. To also remove the latter you can simply delete the lrn` part above. As far as the dynamic hint generation is concerned: No progress on that from that reddit thread yet, huh? Well, I have a few too many projects on my plate right now to work on this for free, but if nothing comes of that thread I'd be more than happy to implement this add-on for a small commission. Just throw me an email at [e-mail] with the implementation details whenever you feel like it and I will be able to provide you with an estimate of the cost for the add-on.

As for hints, I hope there's going to be a concerted effort to come up with a solution; given how extremely useful and timesaving automatic, *progressive* hint generation could be. For instance, if I want to learn 'alle Jubeljahre' in English and I have no idea, I can *repeatedly* press a *keyboard shortcut* for *progressive* hints: •••• •• • •••• •••• o••• •• • ••u• •o•• •nc• i• • •••e m••• ••ce •• a bl•• •oo• once in a blue moon Important: absolutely *NO mouse clicking* (as necessary for the standard Anki hint field), that'll interrupt the flow. Hints *are* necessary because in language learning, more often than not, there are *different ways* to express a concept. Of course, one can always create cloze cards and cloze out different words, but a hint-addon as described would add another possibility for *RAPID* card creation and ultimately save time and cards (fewer need to be created), plus, it could be made to *work both ways* (i.e. recognition and production).

Progress bar isn't working for me. It moves only a tiny bit every card and at the end of my new+review session (approx. 80 cards) the bar is less than a quarter of the way full. I have load balancer and night mode as other add-ons... maybe those are interfering with the algorithm. Also, I am doing these reviews in a sub-deck (just in case thats the problem)

Mmh, might be related to load balancer since it directly modifies the card scheduler. Though it might also just be a bug in the progress bar add-on itself. For what it's worth, the fact that you're using macOS should not have an impact since there's nothing in the add-on that would be affected by the OS Anki runs on. I'm going to release a new version of the add-on later today. It contains a few changes that are not directly related to your issue, but might still have an impact on it. I would just give the updated version a try and see if it works. If it doesn't: Try removing the load balancer add-on temporarily and see if that changes anything. If all of the above fails, please open up a bug report on the issue tracker, so that I can investigate this further when I have the time: github.com/glutanimate/anki-addons-misc/issues/new

Hi there, that's an interesting proposal! I've thought about authoring a blog series on add-on development before, but never considered video tutorials as a medium. It's something I might do at some point in the future, but it would have to wait until my uni schedule reaches a more relaxed pace which is probably still a year or so off. The other thing I'd like to wait for is for Anki 2.1 to be released. This will introduce some major changes to add-on development that would make a tutorial series before it obsolete. Just to give you an idea of the scale of these changes: Almost all current Anki add-ons will have to be rewritten in some way or another. In any case, it's very kind of you to offer to pay for a series like that, but it's not necessary. I might add some paypal links to the video descriptions, though, as I do with some of my add-ons. So you could buy me a coffee if you'd like when the time comes :).

Hi 零 稀竜, you should be able to use Japanese characters if your mark the string as a unicode string. The way you do this is by prepending the double-quoted string with a 'u'. E.g.: u"零 稀竜". Hope that helps!
