My brother and grandpa have celiac, so I appreciate the increased amount of gluten-free foods. When my grandpa first found out he had celiac, his food options were extremely slim and tended to be rather poor in quality. Since then, I've seen the quality and quantity of gluten-free foods greatly increase. It's a great thing to see. Now, if only school lunches would get on board.

My mom and sister are both Celiac, and therefore when I was in high school most meals were gluten-free. Many people claim that "gluten-free" is a diet that makes you lose weight, fat, whatever... this is not entirely true. Much like veganism, many people lose weight initially because they eat less since many foods that they want to eat no longer fit the criteria. Let's say, however, that this is not the case. If you replace gluten food with gluten-free substitutes, will you be healthier? Probably not. Many foods that are gluten-free are often dairy-free, soy-free, organic, etc. so that it may be used as a "catch-all" for people trying to be healthier. So in the sense of eating more organic, yes you will be better. When looking at the macros, however, many foods are actually MORE unhealthy. Gluten-free cookies, for example, often have more fat and sugar to make up for the lack of taste due to no flour. If you have an intolerance or a disease, go gluten-free (duh). If you want to be "healthier," just exercise more and eat less junk food. No food is unhealthy as long as you have a balanced diet and get proper exercise. Furthermore, if you want less "gluten," don't have gluten-free pasta; just eat something like rice instead.
@logan26698 жыл бұрын
gluten free doesn't help you lose weight more than it will your money...and "gluten intolerance" doesnt scientifically exist and is not recognized as a real condition

@RyanDincher8 жыл бұрын
Dustin Rodriguez And I totally agree with that; it's the same way with dairy. That's why many people who live in Asian countries are lactose intolerant... it is simply not a part of their daily diet, and therefore are unable to digest it as well as those of European descent.
@SamSheffer1178 жыл бұрын
Celiac's is a disease but intolerance is not. Something can upset your body but not be a full on disease, hence intolerance. You're body can't tolerate it very well but it isn't a major problem. I don't see how that cannot scientifically exist. I'm not allergic to lactose, so i can drink milk and eat cheese, i just get a minor upset stomach. So i would have a minor lactose intolerance.

Nah, I disagree. the benefit of people who don't need to be gluten free going gluten free outweighs the joke of hipsters and health enthusiasts the gluten free movement has been a great thing for people with celiac disease and gluten intolerance because a lot of old companies and new companies are making more and more gluten free products. it's amazing because now these people have more variety and more choices for food and has also brought the price of gluten free products down.

My friend was recently diagnosed with Celiac disease and would get REALLY sick when she ate any gluten. It's been hard adapting to gluten-free food for her, but I've found some things that actually taste good👌. This video was great! 😄👍😁

It pisses me off when people groan and roll their eyes when I ask if something has gluten in it. I'm sorry my celiac is an inconvenience for YOU!!! If it's inconvenient for you imagine how it is for me! This isn't a fad diet it's a lifestyle I don't have a choice!

Blame the people making it a fad diet, they are the ones that are making those that can't have gluten look like ingrates when they legitimately can't eat it.

This is a video about GLUTEN products. So she's ranting because she's tired of people who sigh, groan, or complain they have to deal with people asking for gluten free products because they legitimately have an intolerance (me) or an allergy (CaleyWarrior101). Get it? And learn to show a little sympathy. You can't know what it's like until you have been there.

From my experience, there is a very noticable different in gluten free items, especially pastas. Because it doesn't bind the same way as normal 'gluten' pasta, it's more condensed. That tends to affect how it cooks, giving it a much stiffer texture. Or maybe that's just me.
@alliecat85898 жыл бұрын
Loren Helgeson totally agree
@faiths76348 жыл бұрын
Loren Helgeson well from my experience, I am like deathly allergic to gluten, and I respect your opinion however I disagree. To me it is great because it's the only I can have. And if you don't have allergies like this or peanuts, you don't really know what it's like to have that the only thing you eat. I am 13 and was diagnosed at 4 with Celiac. Not saying you don't know but I am sincerely asking you to not diss it. And I'm not saying you are. But it also depends on how the pasta is cooked.

AbbyZinger sorry if I'm mistaken but I don't think that they said they aren't?
@abbyzinger8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, not trying to imply they said they aren't. I just think it's important to raise awareness of this little-known form of gluten allergy, so I think it's worth mentioning. People often disregard gluten as not being a "real" or serious allergy.
@abbyzinger8 жыл бұрын
Mills' Skits I TOTALLY agree. I think they did it with grace. One of my other friends without celiac has really bad reactions to gluten - like weeks of sickness from accidentally eating it. It breaks my heart how easily people write off gluten allergies. I'm super passionate about food allergy justice (is that a thing?) so I have a lot of feelings on it. I'm glad they noted that celiac's is DIFFERENT from an intolerance, or people who go off of it just cause they want to. Now more people in the food industry and the world need to realize that not all gluten allergies are not a fad or something to be taken lightly!
@MillsSkits8 жыл бұрын
That's so true! With a lot of people, allergy and intolerance diets are fad diets that they gradually drop, and that can take away from people realizing they're real, lifelong, and serious for others. I'm sorry to hear about your friend! S/he is fortunate to have a friend watching out for him/her!
@Crazyfighter998 жыл бұрын
I don't think people in general write off people who have real gluten allergies. It's the ones that are just following the trend thinking it's "better" for you.

my mum has coeliac disease, honestly I would never suggest going gluten free unless you have to as it can actually cause you to become intolerant if you don't eat it for a long time. as far as food goes, some of it is lovely but the bread can be hit or miss, some of it falls apart terribly and tastes awful but some of it is amazing depends what you get. Pasta is so similar it's hard to tell. The kicker is what gluten is in when you don't realise/may contain traces.
