Is this a hike you'd do or are you put off by the scramble, the scree, the boulder fields or just how epic and strenuous it looks? I'd love to know your thoughts.

Nothing wrong with stopping to "enjoy the view". Far better to take your time, than throw yourself at it and end up so knackered the whole experience becomes a horrible trial. You certainly had a lovely day for it. I'm on Anglesey, and there are many days when we can't even see the mainland for cloud!

What a beautiful day for a hike! The lovely weather definitely made the early start worth it. The scrambling across the loose stones and boulders looked tough but the views at the top made up for it. If you don't get a little bit lost on a hike then you're not doing it properly - another fab video! North Wales looks amazing. Hope the legs weren't too sore the next day but at least you were rewarded with an ice cream at the end.

We were so lucky with the weather that week! And I agree, I am ALWAYS getting a little lost, even on the clearest paths and way marked trails, I somehow manage getting lost with such ease! The legs weren't as bad as they were after Ben Nevis the next day and that hike seems to be the yard stick I judge more recent hikes by now! 🤣 So pleased you enjoyed the video!

WOW! What a GORGEOUS area and beautiful hike! Those rocks at the top are insane! We would absolutely love to hike this 😍 Looks like so much fun (and mega hard) with the scrambling and ladders and totally up our alley! I always speak too soon on hikes too 😂 “this isn’t bad!”…minutes later “just kidding!”

Oh my goodness, you have no idea how happy I was to see this message and know you liked the video/hike enough to comment on it! Personally I much preferred it to Snowdon, even though Snowdon has 'the name'. When you eventually make it to Snowdonia, this would have been be my number 1 recommendation for you guys so stoked I was spot on! ❤️

Hi Luke, so pleased this video and some others inspired the hike. I bet doing it in December is a completely different experience to the one we had. The idea of hiking that high up with snow is a little scary, but exciting all at the same time!

Great footage; I've never gone up that scree field, been down it about a dozen times and it's a real knee-buster! You should try the Glyderau Horsehoe: Tryfan's North Ridge, Bristly Ridge, Glyder Fach, Glyder Fawr and Y Garn, about 8-10 hours depending on speed/fitness. It's a great hike with lots of sporadic grade 1 scrambling along the way. Subbed.
@WhenAdventureKnox
@WhenAdventureKnox 2 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, you're brave for having gone down the scree field, but that said, if doing the horseshoe, I imagine you'd need to do it that way so you're not going down Bristly Ridge (I think that's the one people say to only really go up?) Tryfan's North Ride sounds amazing, and petrifying all at the same time. I'd like to try a few more easier scrambles before I try to attempt that one I think, but the horseshoe does sound epic. We met a gentleman on this hike who described where he'd come from that morning and I'm now wondering if he too was doing the horseshoe 🤔 So pleased you liked it enough to want to sub... this has put a huge grin on my face!

One of my favourites too - possibly my actual favourite! Hey! I was looking for something like this because I am mostly recovered from an ankle injury but a bit fragile, and was looking for a hike in snowdonia. Your video here was perfect for both making me very excited, educated, and also giving me a good review of the scree and boulder parts of the path that I'd been worried about. Thank-you so much!

Hi song1of1fire1 - so pleased this has been helpful for you - and pleased to hear your ankle is on the mend allowing you to hike now 🙏 I have a few other videos of hikes in Snowdonia. I'd say this was the most challenging of all the ones I did, Aberglaslyn, Llyn Dinas and Cwm Bychan is stunning and easier. Cnicht is easier, a mountain but easy for a mountain. I also hiked through the quarries down into Llanberis which was relatively easy as far as hikes go - I'd recommend all of these if you're looking for more.

FTR - it's pronounced Glidder Vower not four! Noce film, and a iconic walking route. I was hoping you might have had a shot of the gulley next to Bristly ridge as you descend off the top of Fach, as some of the online apps send you that way. I've walked this as a kid a couple of times with my parents in the 70s (before there were steps up devils kitchen) and we followed to same route as you - head east off the summit to intersect the Miners path that then takes you onto bwlch tryfan and into the cym

We'd ummed and aaahed about doing Tryfan at the end but the heat from this day was really getting to us and making the call not to go up there at the fork in the trail was an easy one. Plus when I do get to complete Tryfan, I'd love to come at it from the other side. Sorry for not having footage of Bristly Ridge, my research ahead of this walk put me off going this way as it sounded really dangerous. But given that you did it as a kid... maybe not!

@WhenAdventureKnox
@WhenAdventureKnox 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Hollybeth, bless you for finding the time to catch up... that means so much ❤ Strangely there wasn't anything that we saw when we were in Wales, but it's the same for other royals and places, e.g. I've never seen anything in Cambridge about William and Catherine. There is a memorial fountain in Hyde Park in London for Princess Diana and just a few weeks ago William and Harry unveiled a new statue in Kensington Palace. I hope your hectic days were for fun reasons!

Did you have to use bristly ridge for your descent as we’re looking to do the route the same as you have ?
@WhenAdventureKnox
@WhenAdventureKnox 3 жыл бұрын
We were fortunate and were able to avoid it. As you head down from the Cantilever stone, instead of heading north towards Tryfan, which puts you on Bristly Ridge, head East... there's a small lake/tarn on a plateau that you want to head towards and you should soon find the path leading to it. It will feel wrong to head East as it feels natural to get pulled in Tryfans direction and I've seen other KZbiners do this and get lost. It's knowing when/where to make the turn away from heading towards the lake/tarn and into the valley towards Tryfan that confused us, but we found it after a short bit of confusion. I really hope this is helpful for you and please ask away if you have any other questions... I'm just chuffed to know the video is helping someone about to do the same route 🙏

Interesting (mildly!) how 'hike' has become so prevalent in recent years, rather than walk. An Americanism?
@WhenAdventureKnox
@WhenAdventureKnox 2 жыл бұрын
Funny you mention this Andy as I've had this discussion recently too and even turned to Google for it. It appears it is an Americanism, and the only excuse I think I have is, I never used to hike when I was a kid. I spent my uni summers doing Camp America (kids summer camp in Upstate New York) and the camp was big into outdoorsy adventured like hiking and overnight canoe trips. I got a taste for it and after camp ended, visited a handful of National Parks like Badlands, Yellowstone and Glacier, where I went off on 'hiking' trails, and from there, I've always just referred to it as hiking! 🤷‍♀️
