The story of Glyndebourne itself is such a fascinating story that I'm surprised someone hasn't picked up on it and made a movie or TV series about it. I could try myself I suppose, but I fear my efforts wouldn't be worthy of it.

Dressing up is not forced - people enjoy it. It adds to the atmosphere and helps the singers' occasion.

Far too few people in certain areas of the country or indeed the UK as a whole, enjoy Opera or any of the Performing Arts or Classical Music. I notice the people around me when I am at a performance, the statistics of age, race, class, ethnicity gender etc and I wonder why I don't see more people of certain backgrounds, religions, races, nationalities, ages etc, enjoying the music and performances that I love so much. It may be down to personal tastes, or a lack of knowledge or economics and finances, or other reasons but tickets can be bought cheaply enough if one wants to enjoy or simply experience the Arts. Unfortunately the government and city cutbacks means that there is much less free festivals of performing arts and live opera, Ballet and classical music and dance than there used to be, and that is a travesty in itself. Money is wasted on arms and munitions and things like this but not enough is pumped into the arts and the maintenance of them.

If you don’t have munitions and arms you won’t be free to enjoy any of this, will you? What are you going to do to stop Putin? Sing at him? When it comes to life, the arts are why we live, but the armed forces are critical in how we can stay alive. My source - I was an actor before I joined the navy. Don’t set one against the other, they’re the same side of the coin.
