Thank you for posting this! This trick has been done so many times and by so many auto enthusiasts. Glyptal is available in white... which basically means it can be available in any color you want because you could tint it... but I wouldn't do that only because ALL of the still pictures you ever see of this stuff are Glyptal 1201 red. Glyptal 8746G is the name of the white product, but I can't find a non-industrial vendor, or enough info about it to know if it still has the same oleophobic or amphiphobic properties? Also, this video should have thousands of views. Perhaps adjusting your video tags might help it get found more easily? Very good description and testimonial reinforcement of all the things I've heard from the old-timers. :) b

You covered the importance of proper surface preparation before glyptal application and I totally agree. Unfortunately many people are in too big of a hurry or just plain lazy to do things properly no matter if it’s coating preparation or setting critical clearances. The results become obvious either at initial start up or after a short period of run time. I use Glyptal internally on most rough cast iron surfaces because of the numerous advantages and never had any problems. I would welcome any comments with details about why Glyptal should not be used. I appreciate your efforts to help others in your video but in my opinion, it’s a little on the boring side. Your mileage may vary and in all certainty , your opinion will differ.

Looks great! I'm in the process of coating the inside of the block on my Nissan 300ZX, and have ran into a hold-up on the Glyptal application. There are some light spots in a couple areas, and I can't find what the prep work is for applying multiple coats. The block has sat for a couple weeks now, but has not been baked. In your experience, is it safe to simply de-grease the existing un-baked coat, and brush on a second? Thanks for the videos!

+thedyingstorm Yes! Do a light degrease an move on with your second coat. The reason it's light in some areas could because there was some oils left, so give those areas a bit extra cleaning. You're okay doing multiple coats until you bake BTW. Good luck man!

The only way to get all the oil out of used cast iron and cast aluminum is to boil the part(s) in water and Dawn Degreasing Soap ..... time after time until 0 oil shows on the water surface.
