Good job great video. But I have a question. I've been chasing a cylinder 4 misfire on my 3.8. Narrowed down its not electrical.or fuel. Great spark, new injectors. New spark plug, ceramic not cracked. New wires. Listened to all injectors tapping. I thought compression so I checked. 165 psi. Hhmmm.... I read somewhere that the intake gasket leaking could cause a misfire,? What am I not understanding? If it's leaking water then it would be blowing white smoke out the exhaust and it's not. If it's sucking in unmetered air, then it should still be putting out some power because I have fuel injectors firing and compression and Spark? But when I pull the number 4 spark plug wire from the coil, it makes no change in engine at all. The sister coil cylinder tower does change engine when removed(cyl#1) I had thought maybe broken valve spring initially and pulled valve cover off and it looks good. Then did the compression check at 165. I'm left trying to figure out how a intake leak would do this and how I can check it without full disassembly. Like spray something around intake gasket area? Any thoughts? Thanks

Update to my post. After checking everything 3 times I was still pulling my hair out. I ran through the checks again and was getting good compression until the engine cranked and ran for a few seconds. During this time, compression dropped to 20-30 pounds. Now, I'm onto a sticking valve issue. It functioned great during low RPM hand turning and starter revolutions, but fails at higher speeds. Hope this helps someone.

How long would you say it takes to replace the lower manifold itself. I'm looking at that task right now. Coolant was leaking everywhre and that seems to be why in my case.

If youre experienced with them and know what youre doing they can be replaced in as little as an hour to be honest. The average guy with hand tools thats never done it before id guess a good 3+ hours.

Can the LIM be mistaken for head gasket replacement? My mechanic told me the heads aren't blown, but that the thermostat has to stay out of the car until winter or it will get hot again. He also believes the problem is still the head gasket even though it is not blown, does this make sense? 2008 Buick Lacrosse 82k miles.

I haven't really been active to respond, but typically the lower intake manifold will show most of the same symptoms as a head gasket. Main difference is if the head gaskets leak, it will push exhaust gases into the cooling system. Also i have seen these 3.8 get overheated a dozen times BAD and never pop the head gasket. In my opinion, the head is HIGHLY unlikely.

Also if your mechanic is recommending leaving the thermostat out, along with saying its not blown, but its the problem? Id recommend a new mechanic. Sounds like he doesn't know whats wrong and covering his ass by saying it needs what you cant afford.

Dude put that oil cap on! It was bugging the crap out of me. All that stuff you’re doing with an open oil fill hole 😮

@@brokedickgarage3840 right... my mechanic and his guys, 40 years in the business, last week I watched one of his guys put the oil cap back on after taking off the shroud cover. In auto shop in school, 45 years ago, the Auto Tech instructor taught us to put in rags, cover open holes etc, because one time you will drop some shit into something and you're going to have a headache you could have avoided.

@@richleskovec4075 You know what my solution is for not dropping something in the oil cap? Not dropping something in the oil cap. Even IF something did fall into the valve cover i could pull the valve cover in 30 seconds.
