Why would you want to grab the stick if it's supposed to symbolize a machete or sword?

Because the stick in this technique is symbolizing a stick; utilizing it as an IMPACT weapon and not edged.

heller, because it's a stick. I'm pretty sure GM would not do that if it's a Kris or Bolo..

@@tedporciuncula3385 We can think or hope, but this is how they train. Watch any Balintawak video and you consistently see intential and reactive grabbing. If te worst were to happen and an attack with a blade took place we all react in the manner we train the most.

balintawak is an evolution of kali/arnis that uses techniques unique to just stick fighting... traditional kali is with blades but practiced with sticks (because the spanish colonizers banned bladed weapons during occupation...) then people started fighting with just sticks in gang wars decades later, which developed new techniques not applicable to bladed weapons.....
