Hack work. If you had an air hammer you could do the job much faster with less destroyed/ruined parts.

Wow that’s the hard way to do this job and not the healthiest breathing in those toxic fumes.

Seen a old school video where they used large drill bit to drill holes in the rubber and it came out
@daveb50165 жыл бұрын
I do the cold chisel method and you don't even need to remove the rubber first.
@MrSerioLok692 жыл бұрын
Man! I was thinking it would be a simple replacement. Lol. I was wrong. It seems like you need a full shop with tools and hard labor time to change those bushings. 😭

I am faced doing the upper control arm bushings on a Dodge 1 ton van that is a lot like the GM unit with the bar going through only a lot heavier built. You did the job in a similar manner that I do it. Guess there ain't a good way around the mess. Thanks for the video.

Great video. Now I need to borrow your press and your buddy to help me. I have a ride tech system my professional suspension guy screwed up so I'm trying to correct it with plumbing tools. Thanks for the video

That's funny that you have all those tools at your disposal. How about showing how its done with limited tools. Cutting torch? Lol.
@lonniecobb49012 ай бұрын
Back before I had a garage full of tools to use. I'd just drill out the rubber with a large bit then collapse the shell in on its self with the air hammer and 9/10 tines the pop right out. Then I would use a 5lb hammer with a socket over the new one a block of wood and go full on Neanderthal on it haha

You don't need to burn the rubber out. Just use air hammer/chisel to dent in the shells.
@greglarsen32485 жыл бұрын
I went down to Autozone and rented their bushing presser. Only took 30 minutes and I was able to leave the A arm connected to the ball joint.
@trailerparkcryptoking52133 жыл бұрын
How did you contend with the cross bar? The parts store tool kit has nothing slotted to fit over the cross bar to hold a backup for the pressing!
@greglarsen32483 жыл бұрын
@@trailerparkcryptoking5213 Hmm. The tool kit I rented did have one. Maybe the last renter kept it.
@noampitlik23322 ай бұрын
Hi. You can also use a thin rotozip bit to remove the rubber.

Thanks, one of the only videos that shows you how to do a set of UCA bushings that are of the old crossbar style.

When bushings are worn-out could that result in the car hanging on one side lower?
@doug7180Ай бұрын
My van was low on one side. I had weight on the passenger side. The vehicle went down with the weight. But when I removed the weight, the van stayed down. The upper control bushings had froze and stuck. Not allowing the shock to push it up.

@Yaco_Taco10 ай бұрын
If you want to save your shaft you can hammer a chisel under the lip of the flush bushing on the upper control arm on the half of it where there's a slight gap. An air chisel would work too unless you don't want to scuff the control arm at all

@Oldsmob4555 жыл бұрын
The heat was placed on a bushing shell that was replaced.
@snafu8204 жыл бұрын
It won't ruin it's temper if you let it air cool & don't throw water on it to cool it off! THIS only applies to steel parts ! Don't attempt this on aluminium A arms!

I know this is an old video but FYI: A master kit balljoint press works much faster
@lorenzohart95604 жыл бұрын
Just got to the part where you used the balljoint press lol. But the master kit makes it to where you dont even have to get the rubber out first.

Thanks for the video it was very detailed and like you said in the beginning everybody else supposedly shows you how to do it but when they take it out all of a sudden is back in there and I'm like what the hell how you do it but I was debating if I was going to do this myself since I can do this kind of stuff but the only thing that I'm lacking on is the torch and the Press so I guess I'm going the easy route but expensive so yes I'm buying a new control arms thanks for the video
