GM Neiksans Boot Camp #36: French King's Indian attack

Are you constantly annoyed with the French defense 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5? I'm offering you to learn a simple setup - French King's Indian attack. Sergey Karjakin used this weapon in his decisive game against Samuel Shankland in FIDE World Cup 2021 and completely destroyed Black.
White's positions are very easy to play. You will be attacking the black king early and what makes it even more exciting, it's compatible with other openings as well! I'm talking about Sicilian Paulsen when White plays 3.d3, or sometimes also the Reti opening.

@@GMNeiksans I will keep an eye out for it for sure! Quick question: what do you recommend if your opponent plays the (sub-optimal) 3. … d4? The computer seems to favor 4. f4, but it completely changes everything about the game. Would you recommend still going into the KIA structure?

@@andrewucla I guess, something Kings Indian attack related - Bg2, castle short and storm with the kingside pawns. Black has prematurely removed tension from the center.

I was hoping you could do a boot camp for the french defense from blacks perspective, particularly the classical..most grandmasters just say play on the queen side after Qb6..or Be7..etc...and they just STOP there. No further explanation or ideas or games or anything. It's frustrating not seeing a grandmaster go through and explain the ideas of middle games to it. I would greatly appreciate it as I'm sure many french players would. And thank you for your Dutch defense video. You and simon Williams have taught me so much.

Thanks! It depends on the actual moment but you should focus on building initiative at the kingside. With Black...h5 and ....g6 he also seriously weakens the dark squares.
