Gm obd1 not communicating Impala SS Firebird Camaro Roadmaster Caprice

I was having issue with my 1995 OBD1 Chevrolet Impala SS not communicating with my Scan tool, My scan tool is programmable, the fix was to select 1992 as the year and Selecting P as the 8th digit of vin, after I did that the scan was communicating with the car! This is should work on al GM cars with 5.7 LT1 such as the firebird, camaro and roadmaster if you have a L99 4.3 Caprice enter the 8th digit vin specific to that car. Good Luck!

Hi Danny.. I have an X highway patrol car 1995 ss impala? Yesterday evening I replaced the ECT Sensor that goes into the waterpump and the car fired up on the first bump of the key. I took the car out and it drove beautifully and showed signs of great horsepower improvement that I've not seen in a while. Right before I got home the check engine light came on but this time the engine didn't stall or sputter like it did the very last time. The Lt1 was purring like a cat. I get the car back in the garage and I turned it off and I restarted it and the check engine light had gone off with out removing the battery cable so I started the car many times and again the Lt1 started beautifully every time. Ok yesterday it was 85 degrees here we had a cold snap come threw and it was 48 degrees this morning 5:00 am here in Hamlin TX. So I jumped up got dressed and grabbed a cup of coffee and went to the garage and the car would not start but only turn over. But no check engine light. I have no clue!

Will this work on a 1994 Chevy Caprice Wagon 5.7 engine? What kind of code reader are you using? Brand, etc.?

Ik this is like years later. I don’t know if u check this account but I recently bought a 94 z28 been replacing a bunch of stuff but I have still yet to scan the car. I have been watching so many videos and so far urs made the most sense. But for ur scanner is it an obd2 scanner with an adapter or is it just a regular obd1 scanner.

I bought this scanner at sears back in the day. I would recommend getting a knock off gm tech 2 scanner. You can get them on eBay will read all obd1 info.

Luckily I was able to find one today at napa auto parts for around 300 both obd1 & 2.

What fuse # is used for the OBD port? Mines not working at all, it just sounds like a fan is blowing.

@@boxchevycaprice90 Yea, you need an expensive scanner that reads OBD 1. Cheapest 1 I found is on Amazon for $ 250. 95 Impala's/Caprice is a messed up year, OBD1 that will not scan with the GM scanner or paper clip.

@@xandre2002 im working on a 95 fbody 5.7 lt1 and it has the obd2 port with obd1 pcm. I cannot get any scan tool to work on it . I bought the vxdiag with tech 2 software on the computer and not even that will communicate. Hiwever my own fbody 2001 yesr will communicate with the tech 2 software. Im baffled.
