From what I understand GSP is a disciple of the Mas Oyama (founder) system of Kyokushinkai. I've studied Kenpo, Tae Kwon Do, American kickboxing, Western boxing and have learned to incorporate all what I have learned into my Muay Thai training. I also study the movements of Buakaw and Kru Yod and am amazed at their simplicity to the art. They practice the basics over and over again and fine tune themselves into prototype Muay Thai practitioners/fighters.

Holland has some great Muay Thai fighters in Andy Souwer, Ramon Dekkers, Ernesto Hoost, etc. Holland has embraced the Muay Thai style and have produced some of the best stand up fighters in the world. But to this day, the Holland Muay Thai fighters visit Thailand to fine tune their skills and train in the spartan gyms of Thailand. No other country has embraced Muay Thai like Holland, which is why they have produced so many champions.

It was five minutes. He was choked out be Hoyce Gracie at 51 years old..
@turntablesrockmyworld93154 жыл бұрын
You don't know his history. He fought in full contact tournaments in Hong Kong in the 1970s that allowed some ground work. He was one of the toughest Kung Fu stylists of the era who fought in many events. He went into the UFC at age 51 and was not a grappler.

@@turntablesrockmyworld9315 lol Royce Gracie choked him out.
@turntablesrockmyworld93154 жыл бұрын
@@mortgagefinancing5558 Yes, I know, I watched it live. He was no match for Royce once down on the ground despite training some groundfighting. Hard to survive that back then. For his time, he stepped up in the kumite circuit, etc. Most don't realize what martial arts were like in North Maerica prior the UFC I trained Karate, Judo etc. starting in late 1970s to mid 1990s. A diffrerent world back then. UFC 1 changed all of that.

Muay Thai is the best stand up fighting there is. It is practical and very effective in a street situation. The only other stand up martial arts styles that I believe comes close are Kyokushinkai and Sabaki. The fighters in those disciplines can take a lot of punishment but can dish it out all the same. But to me, Muay Thai has all the essentials that make it the most vicious and most basic of all stand up styles.

give the guy a break he's an old man now. co suffering that most men his age are overweight, underweight or physically challenged in some way has in phenomenal condition. while it's TRUE he was defeated by Royce Gracie, at the time he was one of the oldest competitors and at least he had the guts to want to put his rep on the line by competing. I can't say the same for other name martial artists like chuck Norris bill Wallace or Joe Lewis.

This is a demonstration of moves without hurting anyone really, so you can not say it was not real, you get in the ring for real and see if it is phony.
@scarred10 Жыл бұрын
It's a demo of moves that could never work in reality,I a ring,cage or street.Van clief has fought full contact and I mma but never used any of this complete nonsense.

Those boys must've been pretty sore at the end of the day, by the time the Black Dragon was done with them!
@scarred1012 жыл бұрын
neither of those karate styles allow headpunching,they arent real fights therfore,they just stand against each other and trade body shots,its tough going though.Kickboxing is very effective as is western boxing,you may only ever need 2 or 3 techs on the street but wrestling/grappling is essential as a back up.

I'm not trying to bag on on you or anything. But there is a difference between knowing Martial arts and just trying it. He's a grandmaster for a reason. He knows how to do it well while others may not. I'm not saying I used them on people, but he would know how to do it compared to other people.

If that big guy would've put up some real resistance, or actually fought back, Van Clief's techniques would have been null and void. He's a great athlete and karate actor, but he was never a real polished fighter in the ring. Watch his Hong Kong fights, from many years ago, and you willl see that he lacked basic boxing skills, and his kicking technique was almost as bad. He was not relaxed in the ring either. I believe he was knocked out b/c of his overconfidence and huge ego.

wow this was really hard to watch!! (Cringe) The locks are legit but the guys movement is the worst I've ever seen in martial arts. In fact I know white belts who know better basic movement than this guy, he's footwork is atrocious. No doubt If he tried to defend himself on the street like that he'd get himself killed or badly hurt!
