The new GM is Brendan Shanahan. Whoever gets hired as the Leafs' next GM will be making decisions for Shanahan to approve or deny. They will be the highest-paid AGM in the NHL

@@vilhamdutch2962 ever since I started listening the past half year I haven’t missed an episode! This podcast is the perfect mix of viewpoints with sam representing leaf’s nation, kyper representing the older guard of playing the game how it was meant to be played hard and physical, and JB who played at a high level and really knows the game, always impressed with the questions he poses and the way in which him and kipper mull over these potential situations. Wish it stayed to 2 hours but regardless that trio is awesome!

As a canes fan I think Kyper makes a good point about the hit & that its a part of the game. I think ideally you have players like Bennett AND Slavin, as someone who watches slavin all the time this never happens to him, so its rare enough that someone actually connects with one of those huge hits but they do happen. I see a lot of players turn into the boards or take big hits to try to get a call and that's the equivalent of soccer players rolling around on the ground. You can pretned its "tougher" cause at least you're taking a real hit but it's still lame

What a sigh of relief it must've been for Shanahan to read that article about the Leaf employees' feelings after Dubas got fired. To read that the employees all had the shared goal to win the Stanley Cup, but that it also was about Dubas. Holy hell is that dysfunctional. They shouldn't even name the next GM. Just keep them completely anonymous. To avoid the risk of another cult of personality cancer forming.

Also some of the worst teams. I don't care what kind of personality cult they develop...just so long as they win; there is no relationship between the two of those. Dubas brought them into second place in the division; that's not nothing. Just not enough.

These behind the scenes stories are always fascinating to hear, but I always remind myself to not seeing life from God's view. We all can enjoy the game, and it's part of the entertainment, but not my life. Leafs will figure out themselves, but not me, these board of directors, presidents or GM got paid to do their jobs. I just have to figure out the money to pay my season ticket membership, and hopefully no price hike.

The new Toronto GM will have (at a minimum) the folllowing to face: the continuing and increasingly tedious debate about the future of the core four; the continuing and forever tedious debate about "toughness"; a myriad of free agencies; lack of stability on the following: top 6 wings, bottom 6, blue line, and possibly goal; a fanatical, 17:47 demanding fan base; an ever-present, microscopic media; oh, I almost forgot, no cup final since the beginning of time. My advise to the new GM is: a) I hope you are well-paid and b) good luck.

As for the agency situation. As it currently stands with the way its worded, this situation is fine. Do I think its right or ethical? No. But its allowed so unless the league looks into and changes the wording they dont have a leg to stand on. As for the whole collusion thing, im pretty sure if i had an agent as a player and they werent fighting to get me most money, or at the very least ask me what important to me, id let the agent go, so for wasserman theres a direct oncentive for them to try and get more money. Could it not also be likely the collusion wirks the opposite way? Instead of gm asking the agent to go to players agent, what if its the plauers trying to get to the GMs agent to try and get more money or term on their contract

A coach or GM cannot be paid by 2 different teams. If a coach or GM is fired with term still on their deal, they cease collecting a cheque from their former team the minute they sign with a new team, regardless of the amounts of either contract.

50:22 I could not agree more with Kyper here. A brand of hockey that isn’t physical is simply not representative of the Canadian people. And hockey NEEDS to be representative of the general ethos of the Canadian people - in NA, at least. No offense to our US brethren, but the future of hockey is and has always been tied to Canadian interest in it, with some exceptions, obviously. Professional ice hockey needs to remain a warrior sport at all costs. People who whine about it are in the dark as per the implications, which are too many to even broach here.

Florida was always up and down - I think the owner brought some wiz kid - and so they let him go - and then brought him back after the wiz kid failed - then got fired again 2 yrs ago - but this Florida team is mostly built from the ground up by Tallon . I think he is at the age where he is done as an NHL GM - and is probably playing plenty of golf .

Corporate people commonly speak in hyperbole. “Devastated” and “in mourning” is the kind of common corp-speak we can expect. They might be sincerely disappointed that the playoff failures have led to an outcome they didn’t expect, and the uncertainty of the circumstances make them personally anxious, but these dramatic and performative words of despair are disingenuous at best. They hope that if they don’t survive regime change, the old boss will take them with them. But all this makes for a solid hour of content when there’s little else to report on the Leaves.

Pittsburgh has real problems - mostly age of Crosby , Letang and Malkin - yes they are HoFamers - no question . Letang had a stroke during the season last year !! Malkin is pretty beaten up - his body is breaking down . They have no draft choices left they have all been traded away and there are some real power struggles going on with the coach / new owner it is a pretty tough situation . But with those 3 - if they can get into the playoffs - are a little healthy and get on a roll - yes they absolutely could win another one -- I think those players know it too - they just have not had the breaks fall their way
