Thank you for your clear voice and detail as well good visual. I have 2005 GMC Yukon Denali got latter code 0496 one day after filling gas tank. Thought it might be gas cap. Tightened, cleared code and day later back to code. Of course, I said WTF. Searched online code and then asked my mechanic if through experience could it be the purge solenoid valve in engine which I would do myself. Was hoping he would just attach his more detailed obd reader. Instead, he suggested smoke test. I rather go simple 1st instead of expense. I appreciate you identifying the difference in the codes. I will test purge valve myself by blowing thru it and see if air flows which would tell me its stuck open. For what its worth also saw a video where you can disconnect hose and electrical to valve, start engine, wet your finger and place finger against opening in valve and if there is suction than its a faulty valve. Anyway thanks again for your video identifying code. Cheers Michael

Thanks for the video. It's basically in the same spot on my saturn vue and looks almost exactly the same. The video really helped out. The repair shop wanted $120 for them to fix this. I can fix it now for only $25 for the part. So thanks

On the 2002-2006 Avalanche, this solenoid was inserted directly from above into the intake manifold vertically at one end and a hose snapped onto the other end. It was easy to repair. On the 2007 Avalanche, this solenoid is mounted on the side of the engine in a less serviceable location and has a second hose running to it from the intake manifold. So now this solenoid is in a less convenient location and there is one additional connection. As usual, "improved" serviceability and "increased" reliability.

Very helpful about the remote start not working when check engine light is on. My remote start has not been working for months. Which, is about the same amount of time I have been staring lazily at this check engine light. I never associated the two and simply figured my remote start died or was fried or whatever. Now that I have replaced the solenoid, and rest the code, I’m excited to test me remote start again as I always enjoyed that function

Very helpful. I have a 1989 camaro and had to replace the charcoal purge canistor, evap valve and evap solenoid. Unfortunately they do not make a replacement for that year 89-92. Its an odd combo parts. It is a combo solenoid and cannistor set. The seperat tank line valve is still made. As is the vent valve next to the actual fuel tank. I used te newer model 1993 camaro evap solenoid (same part that was used in this video) and a basic round GM charcoal cannistor with the tank, intake and air ports on it. This video confirmed that the grey end goes to the intake/tbi and the black end comes from the charcoal cannistor via an additional short hose section i had to supply to connect the cannistor port to the solenoid port(back end) and grey end to the intake line.

Does it seem to do it when you put gas in the tank? That's what mine was doing. Its allowing fuel to flood the manifold and it won't start until that evaporates.

When filling the gas tank, it would allow fuel to flood the engine manifold. When you turned the key, it would spin really fast but wouldn't fire for a minute or so. Otherwise, it would always start right up.
