Some people in the comments are missing the point by deflecting because they believe black children doesn't need books in their community. The statistics show that black students lack proficiency in reading skills. Is it the majority that the numbers are targeting ? of course not. However, that 1% doesn't count for the large amount of black students that are barely passing in grade school. I grew up struggling in school and I was apart of that percentage that did not receive that foundation when I was a child. The idea to create free book vending machines across the community is a phenomenal action towards a better future for the black students. This isn't a black or white competition of who does it best. The constant comparison is what keeps the black community stagnant.

What a beautiful story and gift of giving. I started my daughter with reading before she could even talk we went to the library all the time. Today she takes a book everywhere we go. I caught her reading in Walmart the other day while I was shopping she stood at the cart while I went down crowded aisles. I wish I would have taken a picture of it but it made my heart happy. 👏🏾❤️ Thank your sister for me.

However, I do believe their has to be parents or a parent who values reading in that area. I believe the statistics and also believe there is a percentage that goes against that. I’m sure if they can’t afford books they can go to the library in their area. I am trying to be optimistic about the situation. I appreciate everything she is doing for that community. I hope this spreads like wild fire to entire United States 🇺🇸 of America. Amen.

This is an awesome idea, I’d like to see what the machines look like or are they not really “machines” and that’s just what they’re called because of the concept? Only asking cause I live in a low income neighborhood in Pittsburgh pa and we’ve had these for years. Just wondering if they’re hers? The idea is amazing. I’m sure everyone knows that catching kids when they’re YOUNG and changing their priorities is so important. The older they get, the harder it is to change them (their priorities).

LOL! Maybe the adults can have fun too! Although, personally I'd be more comfortable with Take a Hint than Flowers in the Attic which I read at an unbelievably young age.

That's great but it seems that the media is trying to insinuate that black kids need to learn how to read. Newsflash, some already can read better than the executives at the network.
@rheena5192 жыл бұрын
I am glad I'm not the only one who thought this. Not to discredit the amazing work she did because, sure, some communities might really need it. However, I'm a black kid who's somewhat low income and I have constantly surpassed the other kids in my class with reading abilities. It's not fair they're trying to make it seem like only black kids have a reading disparity when I know plenty of other non-blacks who can barely read or write.
@blackqueen164 Жыл бұрын
They are going to do that anyway so who cares! Let's highlight the awesome people who are trying to make a difference in their communities, where kids direly need the positive impact!
