It's why Ana Livia is now my 2nd favorite choreography in the show. DT has always been my favorite, & I was ecstatic when I got to learn it attending the Riverdance Summer School in 2016!

I didn't see the very first performance during the Eurovision (though I since have) but my dad was saying how there was this dancing and they were all legs. It came on the news and my parents called me through, thinking I'd laugh at it like they had, but I was captivated and loved it - went on to buy Riverdance, Feet of Flames, Gold and even see a version Maltese performers did here on our island. Definitely something I wish I'd learned in Dance class when I lived in Ireland.❤

Remember watching this show years ago. Very high stage and front row seats - lots of bobbing heads, torsos and arms. Great music but no legs or feet. Complained, so they moved us right to the back in the balcony. Dancing ants. Still unforgettable.

Cool to see a black woman in the group, i know there's a couple of Asian girls that perform too. Probably even more diverse now, which makes sense. Riverdance has become a global phenomenon. Being mixed race (Predominanly Maori and Irish with some Croatian) and also having practiced Irish dancing from when i was four until i was eighteen, i wish i had of gone to Ireland to try out for Riverdance after i finished school. The Irish dancing style that we have here in New Zealand and Australia apparently has some highland influences which have made our style "Down Under " unique in its own right, i thought when i was younger that it would count against me if i were to ever try out professionally.

Irish dancing isn't exclusive to white people anymore than breakdancing is exclusive to black people. As a Puerto Rican, if a Japanese person wanted to learn how to dance Salsa, I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as they respect my culture.

That’s the name of the song? “Translate to English”? Do you know the artist/composer?
@miaow86706 ай бұрын
The song is a bit of a mystery. It has no official name to my knowledge, and it's apparently also nowhere on the internet as a separate track (except for DVD or video recordings of the choreography). Not even on Spotify, and not even on Riverdance's 25th Anniversary's official music CD. It's nowhere to be seen in the soundtrack playlists of the newer Riverdance performances, and not even its lyrics are nowhere to be found. Which is both curious and sad because I would absolutely love to get hold of this song and play it on an infinite loop. I'm not sure but perhaps part of the reason is that it isn't a classic song, but rather just an acapella with a heavily irregular rhythm and a collection of essentially nonsensical lyrics, inspired by or taken from James Joyce's famous novel Finnegans Wake. But since the choreography is called "Anna Livia" and that's also the most recurring phrase in the lyrics, I would guess that's also (supposed to be) the song's official title. Though it's nowhere to be get. I imagine the leading composer is the same as the traditional one for the entirety of Riverdance's musical score ever, so Bill Whelan.

It's more meant to be an acapella number. The music is in the beats of their feet.
@miaow86706 ай бұрын
The music is absolutely stunning. Just that it's not supposed to be traditional Irish music at all. It's an experimental song meant to evoke James Joyce's novel Finnegans Wake, one of the most famous and convoluted avant-garde literary works ever to be written. Which the song does perfectly.

It literally IS. Former Irish dancer here, did that for 7 years. The only nonstandard thing is the song and the rhythm. Which isn't an obstacle though, Irish dancing is a very flexible type of dance and it can be danced to virtually any music and any rhythm (and it very often is, even in Irish dance shows actually).

Morgan Bullock. That's who she is. Also, since if we're being obnoxious on purpose, there are a whole group of Irish people called the Black Irish that have dark hair and blue eyes. But, also, there are also African origin people who have lived in Ireland for generations. But, Morgan Bullock is American.

Stupid people usually recognize their own stupidity in not recognizing class stuff that is beyond the reach of their own tiny little brains. Mitchell, it must be horrible to be trapped in your prejudiced little mind , afraid to face up to the real world and except the world as it really is, you must be a very unhappy individual hiding under your stairs as the world goes by.
