Ben was (and still is) an alcoholic. He said he wasn't happy. Great, not many people in marriage ARE happy. But that is not enough of a reason (for me) to drink or get divorced. He didn't get into any of the details as to what was making him un-happy. Maybe we will never know? Its none of our business really. Obviously, they had problems. But part of the deal with marriage is that is yes, we have big problems but we are STUCK together. And we are going to have to find a way to make this work, and that means working on whatever problem we have and defeat it. I am not convinced that either of them ever tried to do that. Yes he is an alcoholic. He's probably done some bad stuff in their marriage, I don't know. But that is why you work on those things as a couple, especially if you have kids.

I had the same mentality when I was married. I was miserable, but felt obligated to stay cause we had kids. I was so depressed and often isolate myself from her and the kids. I eventually realized staying in that toxic relationship was doing more harm to all of us.

There is something about men that they are prone to depression and addiction so it's just worth knowing this. It's in their DNA per studies. Women are more prone to paranoia. People may bring these traits out in you more as you react to them especially if you have low regulation, but these are all feelings we each have related to our biology and they are likely reacting to their own low regulation in a different area. People do things per their own agenda and we react to something inside of us and project that out onto the world. Depression is related to low self esteem. So I'm sure Ben felt depressed because he was reacting to something in his world and had a predisposition to this, however it was something he was missing in himself that he was searching for, not the outside world. And control in himself that was needed. So this is never solved for him till he fixes himself. His kids can't correct it. J Lo or Jennifer can't correct it. Addictions are a lack of regulation inside ourselves. His motivation for his kids may be the impetus to regulate himself but if they die tomorrow then he will only be able to regulate himself if he has that capacity. It's a skill regulating yourself against addictions.

The world is becoming so judgemental, that we usually miss important lessons. I am shocked that most don't get how truthful the man was in pouring his heart out to the world, telling us that they were both suffering. No one can deny that his ex wife is " a saint", meaning anyone else would be happy with her- they were only married to the wrong person. That interview was very painful to listen to, because I could hear the sorrow of the couple in his voice. You don't get the point. He told the the absolute truth that will be helpful to many,; and only if we stop being judgemental and hateful 🌷

Ben’s ego shot up to his head! They separated in 2015, he started drinking more heavily 2015, 2016 (NYT magazine interview 2020) and was a raging alcoholic till 2019 (last known). He got his out of the marriage bt turned even more miserable. It’s on him, not anyone / anything else. He failed the family so bad god is too generous to Ben for having JG as his kids’ mom! He cud have lost them and lose his support system forever

You know, Ben Affleck is making it harder and harder for me to even want to watch any of his movies anymore. He's so self-absorbed and as I listen to him slur his speech here on this old interview. I think about the Garner is one of the people who helped pick him up off the floor and put his ass back in rehab. How sad to be such a selfish person! Now the love of his life, JLo isn't going to work out a second time around. All the money in the world couldn't make this guy happy! All the fame in the world couldn't make him happy! You had three beautiful kids and a very lovely wife. You've had opportunity after opportunity and amazing talent that is shown in many of your roles. I'm sure you came from a family that loved you and set you up for a good future. You got the woman of your dreams (who quite frankly doesn't know what she's doing either). And you're still not happy. It is you been. You are the reason you're not happy. You better get a handle on your life before you end it.

Ben Affleck started drinking when he was a teenager and Jennifer Garner is not to blame for his alcoholism, his womanizing, his gambling addiction, and his cheating on her. Jennifer Garner is a good person and a humanitarian as well. Be Affleck needs to ask for forgiveness for his sins.

He is very transparent in my opinion for exposing the reasons why his marriage doesn't work anymore. Of course, some mistakes was made by them along the way...Any way despite the love i believe they both share to each other, when things insist on staying worse inside the bedroom It's quite difficult to sustain a good enviroment for the kids when they put each other apart. I hope Jennifer keeps moving on cause she deserves the best for her and the kids.

Ohhh My God! Why He blamed his dark secret for his children mother. That's not fair at all. Couples fight and made it work. Marriage is not easy institution. How quickly people forget the lessons of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Everybody but everybody came down on Depp as if he was pure evil. Then bit by bit it came out that Heard was really the abusive person in the relationship and she was leading everybody on with a bunch of lies. I am not saying that Garner is anything like Heard, but I am saying that people can be very abusive in a relationship and that they themselves may never really know or understand that they are being so. I went through an 23 year abusive marriage because I was ignorant and lacked the knowledge of what a Borderline Personality Disorder was. I didn't understand that her behaviors weren't just problematic and hurtful but were considered by mental health experts to be very emotionally abusive. But because of this mental disorder my Ex was always filled/overwhelmed by the emotions and belief that she was the one who was uncared for, picked on, and mistreated. It was all an endless cycle of manipulative abuse that created a ever widening separation in our marriage. My Ex even attacked a counselor with baseless severe accusation of him picking on her when he tried to approach the subject that my Ex's behaviors contributed to problems in the marriage. (and she wouldn't come back to counseling with that counselor either) But to people outside of our marriage my Ex was always successful as portraying herself as a perfect christian princess to the point where they found it almost impossible to believe she could be abusive. This perfect/wonderful public persona is fairly common with abusive people, lots of women find themselves married to men that are publicly admired but are privately abusive. It's the same situation with all those Catholic priests, the adult parishioners thought many of these priests were some of the most wonderful people they had ever known. Only the children that they abused really knew who they were underneath that perfect public persona. I'm not saying that Miss Garner is mentally ill, as my Ex, or as a pedophile priest, but I am saying that a spouse can be very abusive in a marriage in a way that is only known by the other member of the relationship. To say that someone like Affleck, who clearly is a recovering alcoholic and has his own problems, is the only cause and source of problems in the relationship just may be an incredibly big lie. And by believing and repeating that lie you propagate and extend the abuse the one member of the relationship suffers.
