Tala Gatchalian pales in comparison to the definition of having a superb musicality regardless of generations and genres: Josephine Baker, Yma Sumac, Judy Garland, Sarah Vaughan, Julie Andrews, Kate Bush, Cher, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, Tina Turner, Shirley Bassey, Donna Summer, Cyndi Lauper, Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, Toni Braxton, Annie Lennox, Lara Fabian, Celine Dion, Tina Arena, Gladys Knight, Nicole Scherzinger, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Lea Michele, Sohyang, Björk, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Adele, Beyoncé, Maria Callas… You just can’t win in a singing competition without being a vocal virtuoso and a story-teller. Even Olympics wouldn’t hail the weakest athlete as the winner. Quiz Bee wouldn’t give the grand prize to the dumbest contestant. Marathon wouldn’t make the slowest runner as the champion. You win because you’re the best not because you’re unique or the most favored one. GMA failed big time in giving the title to the best singer. GMA should undergo training that teaches comprehension, fairness, and common sense. GMA never learned from their mistake for robbing Arabelle Dela Cruz of the title. They did it again to someone as vocally proficient as Trixie Dayrit. GMA continues to lose its credibility.

You are talking about showbusiness most especially here in the Philippines. You can't just compare it to olympics,sports,quizbee etc. If you follow most of the singing contests in Philippines television they always choose someone who can they sell easily. What do I mean? Of course, you know how Filipinos adore those good looking singers than you know what I mean. These TV companies are always bias with physical appearance. They always want to win those with good looks so they market them easily. Again,it has been a tradition and thats a reality in philippines TV.

Consider Jessica V., the grand champion of The Clash Season 3. Her talent was undeniable, yet she wasn't as beautiful as she claimed, especially compared to Jenny Gabriel. Similarly, in TVK Season 1, Darren, despite possessing both looks and talent, was only the first runner-up to Lyca. I'm not saying Lyca lacked talent or beauty, but Darren was comparable to her in those aspects.
