I have a doubt here in question 4 Boldface 1 : Goldman Sach's analyst expect something (something = Google 'will' report higher than expected earning) However sentence 4, first clause says : While it is true that Google is expected something( by GS analysts) [something = to post earnings that exceed the expectation] So basically author is not agreeing with the 'something'. He is agreeing expectation of something. That is, he is agreeing that - "yes, its true. 'Something is expected.'" Can you please help me understand?

Hey Ashish, Thanks for reaching out :). Let me resolve this! Let's take an example to understand what is really going on. Example: The general expectation that exists about Google is that it will earn 100 Bn USD revenue. Now, Goldman's analysts expect that Google will actually report an earning that is even higher than what is expected. So, if the expected earning is 100 Bn USD, Google will report a higher value, say 150 BN USD. Now, the author says - "While it is true that Google is expected to post earnings that exceed the expectation..." What this really means - As per the author, Google can be expected to end up making an earning that exceeds the expectation. In other words, given the expectation of 100 Bn USD, the author expects Google to report a higher value, say 150 Bn USD. In other words, the author is in alignment with Goldman's analysts - both entities expect Google to make more than expected earnings (more than100 Bn USD). If we were to look at this structurally (what you have done): Goldman's analysts: expect Google to do something Author: says that yes, Google is indeed expected to do that same something If you observe this carefully, both the author and the analysts have the same expectation regarding Google. One tip from me: Personally, it is very important for us to know exactly what that "something" means. Figuring out logical aspects like this cannot be done if one looks at the sentences purely structurally (replacing "report higher than expected earnings" with X/Something). One has to focus on the actual text and meaning conveyed to figure out correct logic. Hope this helps! Regards Harsha (e-GMAT)

In question 1 how can a opinion become an evidence

Hey Kiran, That Google will report excellent earnings is an expectation/opinion of the analysts. That said, it is a fact that analysts expect Google to report excellent earnings. And the author is actually using this fact (that the analysts expect Google to report excellent earnings) as evidence to claim that Google's stock price will go up. If you haven't, do check the video further. I explain this! Hope this helps. Regards Harsha (e-GMAT)
