Good question! In fact, it's entirely possible for the GMAT to set word problems that use multiple equations. The basic idea that Price x Quantity = Revenue is one to be familiar with! There can be many variations on this core idea. The GMAT OG 2024-2025 will definitely be useful in studying for the GMAT in 2026. Each edition of the Official Guide keeps about 85% of the questions from the previous edition and changes about 15% of them. The OG 2026 will be very similar to the OG 2024-2025.

Yes, GMAT Quant asks questions about algebra! Data Sufficiency only asks 'applied' math questions (better known as word problems), but Quant still includes questions about 'pure' algebra (equations and variables without real-world context).

You haven't done anything wrong!! You just need to take one more step to reach the correct answer. If we take the result you reached in your final step and multiply the top and bottom of the fraction by -1, we'll get [(-1)*2y] / [(-1)*(3y - 3)] = -2y / (-3y + 3) which can be rearranged to give -2y / (3 - 3y). This is the same as the answer John Michael reached in the explanation and is answer choice (A). I hope that helps!

I tried to do the final question like this but can't figure out where I went wrong, doomed at math! 2/x + 3/y = 3 2/x = 3y-3/y x/2 = y/3y-3 x = 2y/3y-3 But this isn't one of the answer choices, sorry if stupid question, pls help

I actually got the same result at the 2y + 3x = 3xy step, when moving to 3xy - 3x = 2y instead of 3x-3xy = -2y

It's not a stupid question at all, and you haven't done anything wrong!! You just need to take one more step to reach the correct answer. Brother you had the answer, correct just the thing you missed was removing the negative sign from the bottom , if you have done derivation just remember that it's similar to it

@@sukrantsandhu7894 the answer that a.s2791 had reached didn't match any of the answer choices, so he couldn't finish the question. He needed to do something to make his answer match one of the options, and the best way to do that is to multiply the top and bottom of the fraction by -1. I hope that helps!
