Mothers Fight Social Media Companies for Answers About Son's Deaths

Mothers Ellen Roome and Hollie Dance are both fighting social media companies to get hold of their son's internet histories in a bid to find answers about what happened and how they died.
Ellen Roome is yet to receive crucial data from social media companies that may provide information about her son’s death. She has campaigned tirelessly to amend the Online Safety Bill.

Massively agree with this, as it's our responsibility to safeguard and social media should be working with parents over these situations. Ideally no child would be on social media but often kids will sign up to them and parents are trying to monitor it but it's not possible all the time.

The "TikTok Challenge" theory about Archie was debunked several times, including by police. What they found on Archies phone (police and at the inquest) were multiple posts he'd made about depression. He had contacted Hollie telling her he was depressed and joined WhatsApp groups called "help" and "I'm depressed" One of his messages read "That is why I'm so depressed all the time and I haven't cut my wrists but I have tried and thought about killing myself" His cries for help were ignored, he got no support and eventually took his own life. Archie was clearly a depressed little boy who received no support and his mother is blaming social media to stop people questioning her mistakes. It's emotional neglect to ignore a child's emotional needs, Archie died due to emotional neglect. Probably similar with the other boy, unrecognised mental health condition and took his own life due to no support . Enough blaming social media, give your children a real legacy and start raising awareness of young suicide. I say this as someone who lost a close friend to suicide as a child, she was just 12.

If there's one lesson here it's allowing your Children unsupervised internet access! I had my Son young at 18 his now 16 coming on 17 his mother and I (Separated) agreed not to allow him access till he hits 18 then he can do as he pleases even restrict his PlayStation Access till his completed homework

God love him 😢 so sad my kid brother killed himself 2 years ago and because i don't know why i only have myself to blame you ask yourselve was i too tough on him for drinking and getting into fights i spent so much time telling him how to behave that i never asked how you coping? If you love and care about your kids you monitor them until they are adults. Even their social media accounts.

So tragic... I am not a parent myself but I understand parents' frustrations with social media. The law should be regulated. It is outrageous that a mother is barred from accessing her son's social media data , especially when a tragic event like this happens. I hope that this ends the way it should be, with her getting closure...

Real depression is not always disclosed...not knowing what the matter is with yourself..feeling there is nothing to make you better....13 onwards a very vulnerable age...comparing to other people..something said..self hate..negative thoughts..divorced or death in parents..the age when you are no longer a child and not an adult...going on LONG BEFORE THE INTERNET..
