You Blake have been an inspiration to me and my recovery from heroine and crack.. what!?!!. Yep! I spent£100 + every day on smoking it.. till I saw your videos . I once had a deep passion for mountain biking downhill. I detoxed and started using my bike once again. it was probably the only thing and never sold. My 2005 Kona explosif hardtail.. she's just as good as she ever was and believe me I've not touched that s*** since. It's been going well and I would like to thank you and the rest of your team for helping me big love Sean

I’ve been mountain biking for around 20 years - the skills you really need are - good judgement (what to do and what not to do) - Balls - great balance - being calm -being mentally switched on - advanced braking skills - ability to jump off bike when it goes wrong - some ability to land/roll well - bunny hop (over roots and rocks) - step down You don’t need many other skills on a real mountain bike trail (Because it almost certainly will have no jumps in it), if you’re doing an artificial course you might also need how to jump a bit. So no need for fakie’s, stoppies, endo’s. You need manual for step down (Got to get your front wheel up), and the rest of it e.g. tight cornering and so forth, comes naturally.

I train heavy vehicle drivers. 'Where you look is where you go' comes out of my mouth regularly when trying to get them to do tighter U turns. Looking back over your shoulder as you turn. Works. Dragging some back brake helps on a motorcycle too.

First of all can i say as a brand new MTB rider, these video are AMAZING. I am loving putting these into practice ! You guys do a sensational job. One small quibble in this video, you mention at 8:45 about 'curling your toes around the pedals. 1. I can't see that happening, 2. how can that be possible in runners ? Surely it's the physics/momentum/weight shift of your body on the bike rolling the loading, which pops the back wheel up ? Thanks guys !
@gmbn5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the awesome feedback Dean👍. Yes your right 🤣 it's not possible to actually curl your toes around the pedal as Blake said, but this is a great way to visualise what your feet are trying to do. Check this video Neil did a little while back gmbn.eu/BunnyHop

Tip to manual: I could barely get my wheel off the ground and it was so annoying. I could wheelie and everything but could never manual. So I got an old cheap pink bike from my sister, which was pretty small. It had a really low seat and so I started using that. I went on the road for a while and just practiced the two movements, that make the L shape. I then started speeding it up and trying to get good technique. I was already getting improvement but wasn’t going all the way up. So then I started really loading down the bike and pushing down the pedals and then pushing back. You’ve almost got to kick the pedals out when you transfer your weight backwards. The straighter your legs are the further back you go if you have good technique. Then if you go to far you bend your knees or touch the break. Hope this helps

You ever considered doing a video on riding mtb in a skatepark? I ride bmx and I'm from Bristol, I think for mtb the best skatepark would be the one at Bradley Stoke and Dean Lane/dame Emily skatepark, hengrove and horfield are alright but probably too small for mtb. I would say either Bradley Stoke or Dean lane/dame Emily are the best bet (two different names for the same skatepark). I haven't been to the one in Bath yet (Victoria skatepark) but from all the clips I've seen of my mates there I think it would be plenty big enough for a mtb but I can't guarantee how creative you could get. Just thinking about it I'll probably go to Bath tomorrow so I'll update this comment once I've been there

@@gmbn ah okay I haven't seen that video, but I'm there now and it's pretty sick. I ride street if you know what that is and all the ledges are cool because all my nearest parks don't have quite so much but the bowl is super fun just to pump around in super fast

@aaronhuie70135 жыл бұрын
Blake - Would it not be valid to say that, with the tight-turn exercise, one should avoid using the front brake because of it's potential to disturb your balance during a low-speed turning maneuver? My experience is that back brake is much more useful in that situation because it's influence is more gentle AND actually helpful in tightening a turn if you find yourself going wide.
@iank37885 жыл бұрын
Front brake is king for that kind of riding. Let's you still put tension on your chain to make track standing even more stable while spotting a line. Rear brakes stops your momentum and steals your pedal pressure control. In slow or high speed turns I always front brake pulse more then my rear.
@aaronhuie70135 жыл бұрын
@@iank3788 Interesting. I've found that front brake - especially in slow turns where you're trying to maintain balance - too easily disturbs balance because your momentum (small though it may be) keeps going in the direction the wheel was rolling before you applied the brake. Maybe I'm just too ham-fisted with the brake... Maybe I'm not anticipating well enough. Just seems like the linear nature of the influence of the back brake makes maintaining balance easier. And as for high-speed turns... I get pictures of the front wheel washing out and losing total control... But, again, could be more user error than anything.
@gmbn5 жыл бұрын
With slow tight turns like this it's ok to use both brakes to help with control. For higher speed stuff we would suggest trying to brake before and after corners.
