I suppose this is more for #eMBNTech but is there any merit to this gadget being promoted and sold by NLSComponents? It's the SPEEDi - a mechanical e-bike speed limit increaser, electric bike speed limiter removal. an attachment you place on a compatible ebike using rotor attached magnet for the speed sensor, to fool it in believing you are not travelling as fast as you are, thus continuining to provide assistance. Is there any merit or truth to it?

Hey Owen, I was intrigued by the pedals although I've been clipped in for 15yrs. so they were too expensive for me to experiment. However, being a machinist, I made a pair! only 1 ride in so far showed me that I have become dependent on the clips. I need to practice scooping my feet before getting any significant air. They do grip very well and they do self right. They do not mention the obvious massive Q factor change, will it make a difference? I did not notice. I don"t comment on youtube so I don't see where to share a photo
@gmbn2 күн бұрын
Owen would love to nerd out on these, if you want to send them to him it's the 'Top Mods' section on the GMBN Tech Show over on GMBN Tech. www.gmbn.com/uploader Q factor isn't so important on bikes that require less peddling: Dirt Jump, Downhill etc... but if you are riding longer distances you might find it noticeable

Actually, these pedals are almost exactly what I was looking for, actually came up with a very similar idea few months back myself. I was wondering "how to reduce crank length at TDC and keep it the same at BDC" to keep the same leverage where it matters, not increase saddle height and reduce strain on knees. That is almost exactly what I came up with, though, I never thought about that "pendulum effect" they are boasting about. If it really works, then even better! When I saw the first review of these pedals I just went ahead and bought them, waiting for them to arrive. Pricey? Yes, but since it is the same idea as I had myself, and I care about my knees. So to me it is worth the price to try!
@analbumfromhell18422 күн бұрын
I like these pedals as well, but it won't reduce knee strain, you will still need to have shorter cranks. Pedals will introduce vertical offset, reducing the height of TDC, but the height of BDC will be offset by the same amount in the same direction.

These retire systems are actually pretty interesting for the right audience. I think the main issue is that the part where the zipper sits would tear. If life in a aera where sometimes there i a very icy day you can easily zip on spikes etc. But the tires are just not strong enough for hard use and they were pretty expensive.

I can imagine a system like Trutone flow in MTB bikepacking. For most of the time, you want your suspension to feel locked out to almost locked out and only open it for the narlier parts. Still, due to the heavy load, unknown terrain and long riding times, you often overlook bumps or you ride longer light trails in lockout, that suddenly can turn harder, which can be dangerous. Having a suspension, that suddenly activates, is a very good thing in that situation. Yet, I don't think the mechanism with the activated char is good enough to solve that issue.

The original fat bikes used two fronts wheels welded or bolted together, so like the z-cranks, it's not a new concept. I imagine it's next to impossible to steer with essentially the weight of a bike hung off the steerer tube. Hard to say if it'll eliminate washouts. The normal force doesn't change if it's spread over two contact patches, but the force per unit area decreases.
@gmbn6 күн бұрын
Maybe this is one for Blake Builds? Recreate it!
@georgim27415 күн бұрын
It will act like a trike. Washouts are typically only associated with two-wheeled vehicles. The steering will be heavy but not extremely heavy. One problem with that type of vehicle is the offcamber sections where one wheel can have super low traction because of the lack of weight on it.

Someone somewhere is always trying to re-invent the wheel! 😂😂 Someone somewhere is always gullible enough to believe the marketing tripe! 😂😂 And someone somewhere has too much money and spends it on said re-invented wheel! 😂😂 Why not! I guess it's about creating that one product that is actually good and catches on. Dropper seat posts, suspension seat and handlebar clamps. If they don't create them we would never know! 😊
@SuperBleifrei976 күн бұрын
The idea behind the stem is actually not too bad. Bringing the handlebars closer to the centre of your fork shaft can actually increase the feeling of being safe on your bike and also gives, depending on the bike, some advantages like a more centred position which feels pretty solid on steep sections. Even a shorter stem and a higher bar or the stem Rulezman produces have a slightly similar effect and it feels pretty good. But, we gotta keep in mind that bringing the centre of the weight further back also changes the efficiency of the suspension. I personally ride a Propain tyee with a 35mm stem but a 75mm rise bar. I switched from a 400lb to a 425lb coil and reduced the pressure in the fork by 3psi and it feels absolutely amazing. The reverse rise stem might be a bit overkill but the idea is really not that bad depending on how you prefer your bike to feel
@fallenshallrise6 күн бұрын
IMO reducing the distance between your hands and feet does not feel more stable because having your arms more bent and in your own lap reduces your leverage.

That Rungu reminds me of the Yamaha Niken! Utterly wild-looking, some wild claims too, but it does make for a unique ride... Just debatable if it's a positive or negative in most aspects. Also heck yeah I'd try out that BMB stem... if it was way way cheaper, hah. Well out of my price range to just experiment with something but from what I've heard it's surprisingly good-feeling when downhilling? Mostly just for DH racers (potentially with BMX/motocross backgrounds) though, unless you just want high 'cruiser' bars for comfort and none of the far cheaper alt bar options interest you. Also on the shark fin saddle, I've also heard some people honestly find it comfortable, but the only actual recommendation I've seen for it is for use in bike fitting! Very good for sorting out if a rider sits offset. (but you're supposed to go back to a normal saddle once you do.)
