They are both diesel and they are both straight piped so they sound like they are being beat. The GMC has an auto trans so you have to rev it up to get it to go. We work our equipment but we don't beat it.

When i went to work for MoDOT in 77 they had a couple of old Jimmy`s with detroits and if you run them pretty hard you had to stop at lunch time and fill them back up with oil. When the oil gauge started fluttering you knew it was time. They had the 5 and 4`s in them and fun to drive. When the flex pipe on the exhaust broke it got pretty loud in the cab. Lots of good memories.

Thats my old truck 238 detroit.week on the low side.had to pull her with 60.ooo pound load out of load out .she had 5 and split.all.the 10 speed was ok in low side had more power .

The Deutz tractor there is interesting, too. Didn´t thought they were sold outside europe... Btw, the Detroids aren´t reving higher than 4-stroke diesels, they fire once every rotation, the 4-stroke every second rotation of the crankshaft hence the different exhaust sound.

There are many Deutz tractors around this area. That blue truck has to be reved up to get it to go because it's an automatic. It won't go if you baby it.

nah I know how a two stroke diesel works but this one was 1)way too loud ,missing its muffler or something and 2)not performing well at all. two stroke diesels are less fuel efficient and less powerful than four stroke, they suck.

+Jose Pacheco It's a two stroke diesel. You have to rev it up because that is how a 2 stroke works. It is also straight piped so nothing is muffled. Maybe a little loud but it gets the job done.
