I was driving with my kids in 2018 Silverado completely stock, no modifications at all and suddenly...lost power for about 45 secs... Pulled off as best as i could... Got the alert "theft detection" and to cycle driver side window up and down.. restarted the truck and the turn signals were sending a fault and flashing faster than normal... I was thinking the worst ... Checked all fuses and relays.. wondering what in the world is going on.. then o found your video and tried it.. they were full of corrosion and dirt.. electrical cleaning spray and dielectric grease .. no more issues... You saved me a ton of $ and time .... Thank you ao much... Very grateful to you for making this video.... I find it crazy that one electrical plug related to turn signals can shut the entire vehicle... I think Im gonna be switching to something more "old school" maybe a 80's bronco or something i can actually work on

Thanks, man, this was just what I needed. My '08 Silverado started flashing fast, but all the elements were still lighting up. Popping the leftmost (driver side) blue connector was the one that I think did it. I did them all, off and back on, didn't notice any dirt or corrosion, but the contact must be improved anyway, 'cause now I've got normal blink speeds! Very helpful and well done.

Got to love KZbin. Glad I found this. My 09 GMC Sierra did the fast blinking with nothing happening at the left rear. This was after a fuel pump replacement. I referenced your video to check my 2011 Sierra 1500 this morning. My driver's side signals don't respond in any way but the hazards do so I was thinking this had an outside chance of being the source of the issue. Still I really appreciated the video and it got me looking at a part of the truck I wasn't aware of. Last week I changed out the rear differential oil so I got to see how dirty and rusty the area was (the top of the spare which may have never been dropped before this was totally filthy). I was actually surprised to see how clean the insides of the four plug connectors in the area were. I'm going to look more around the Body Control Module (BCM) wiring and possibly the BCM itself. Thank you Jimikiwi!!!

Any auto parts or Walmart carry cleaners specifically formulated to clean electrical connections without damage. I don't know what the difference is, but is a good thing to have around your shop/garage. Sometimes the cleaner will do the trick. Sometimes a bit of scrubbing is needed. Brass brush is a good idea.

@jeffhicklin46536 жыл бұрын
Normally you don't have corrosion on the contacts/terminals in the connectors at that junction block, but you will have a lot of sand, grit, etc. that can lead to bad connections. Typical materials are steel that is coated to prevent corrosion, and nonferrous materials like copper and brass that do not corrode easily, but will given the right conditions. The connectors can also become loose just because of the location where the truck bed/suspension bounce around more than the front of the truck. Vehicles including trucks have a safety feature in the firmware that is looking for resistance in the wiring to ensure the bulbs are present and presumably working. For some vehicles, the firmware is only looking at the rear lights, which makes sense when you consider which lights are most important when it comes to safety. The car behind you is not really affected if you have no lights in the front of the vehicle, but is affected if your rear lights are not working. The firmware creates the "hyper-flashing" intentionally as a way to let you know you have a problem.

@@JimiKiwi I have good sir…always a lot of grit back there! The reason I’m asking is because mine needed resistors to stop the hyper flashing. On each signal bulb.
@JimiKiwi2 жыл бұрын
Ah... you must have LED bulbs?

Search all over the internet and still can't find the location for my turns signal relay.

Depending on the vehicle, it might not have one. This truck controls the exterior lights with a computer :(

Corrosion at the fuse block?
@Slicc876 жыл бұрын
Would it be the same on an 06 envoy?
@JimiKiwi6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. I know someone with the Trailblazer / Envoy. I'll take a look and let you know. Give me a couple of days.
@JimiKiwi6 жыл бұрын
Calvin Dunham it's different on the Trailblazer / Envoy. The location I reference in this video is only for your Towing hook up on those vehicles. Sorry

I did that on mine. Still doesn't work. I don't k ow what it is .

I eventually bought new tail lights. Seemed to solve everything when I replaced the old wire connections that came with the new lights.

@@JimiKiwi I change the cables as well and still no flash . Am this king of taking my truck to dealer ship in January after the holidays . I have not ask many mechanics cause they aren't electricians for cars and they don't wanna play and then make it worst or damage computer . Stuff like that.

That is a sad story, my friend. I hope you have better luck with your next truck.

how to u clean the corrosion properly?
@JimiKiwi7 жыл бұрын
I sprayed it with electrical contact cleaner. I also cut a finger nail file to fit the connector and sanded deep inside. Then, another dose of the contact cleaner. Finally, a squirt of dielectric grease over everything.

@@JimiKiwi, its after 1 year now. How does your corrosion treatment fare? Any sign of corrosion returning? I'm on a research on automotive contact corrosions. Thank u.
@JimiKiwi5 жыл бұрын
I have had to revisit this issue. I live in a coastal area with severe winters. At least, now I know what to do and it only takes a minute. I typically use CRC electronic parts cleaner and a spritz of WD-40 after.

Can't find my flasher on 2009 Silverado, where the heck is it? Need to replace it, no clicking sounds.
@JimiKiwi6 жыл бұрын
Lee Steele there isn't one. Chances are, it's corrosion in that wire harness block.
@JimiKiwi6 жыл бұрын
Lee Steele it's computerized. It's not a regular flasher like we're used to.
@crlaw756 жыл бұрын
It is programmed through the body control moduele (BCM) unit.
@robertzack25035 жыл бұрын
there is no flasher. it's programmed thru the body module. the flasher sound & warning chimes are programmed thru that as well & the flasher clicking, & warning chimes are transmitted thru the driver's side front speaker.
