He really did put on a good show. Gukesh was hyped through the run up to the WCC, which was amplified when Ding didn't show up to play him in the Olympiad. The fact that Ding came out of the gates swinging with the black pieces, when most people had low expectations, really showed that he was able to work through a good chunk of what was holding him back this year. Ding's still got it, game 12 especially proved it. Hopefully Ding will have the hunger he had last time and try to make the Candidates.

Congratulations to Gukesh for becoming the World Champion! As a Chinese fan I have to say that Gukesh really deservs it. He is clearly the side that is better prepared and more confident. Although it appears that Ding lost on a blunder, it cannot hide the fact that he kept on running into time trouble in this championship match. If you always run low on time, such a blunder will come sooner or later --- which unfortunately happend in the last game of this championship series. I feel so bad for Ding since he clearly has the ability to hold his title as he managed to perform so many tremendous comebacks and survives, and at one moment I could not accept that Ding lost in such an abrupt way. However, it is clear that Ding gave so many chances to his opponent, and I have to admit from Hikaru's recap that Ding was at a disadvantage far before his final blunder. I really hope that he could regain his confidence and come back to challenge the world champion's title back in the future. Anyways, as a Chinese saying goes, "diligence will be rewarded“, and I believe Gukesh has made it for his well preparation. Thanks to both players for their great efforts and I cannot wait for the next Championship match!

Lots of sympathy for Ding working with mental problems. ❤ You can look at the same situation with or without depression and it looks very different. We often think of emotions emerging from how we assess the situation we are in But how we assess the situation we are in is steered by our backseat driver emotions I remeber thinking the group of people 20 meters away on a busy street were laughing at me even though i was just walking and they were not ahead of me not even facing me. I assume because i had the emotions of someone being mocked by a group and moved my perception of the situation to fit that.

I agree with Anish Giri: the most plausible explanation for Ding’s blunder in such a drawing position is good old freudian Unconscious. Somehow, the title of world Champion had become unbearable for Ding. (Maybe he felt deep inside that it was undeserved, since it depended partially on Magnus’s withdrawal?) In any case, I feel relieved for Ding and I hope that he is now able, away from the spotlight, to find liberation from his psychic suffering and to reconnect with the best of his chess abilities. 🙏💕

You made a history today, Gukesh! You become a legend in your 18th 🙌now the crown is yours 👑you just have taking the throne, which is ruled by LEGENDS Alexander, Emanuel, Anand, Magnus etc. Your parents are so lucky to have you.❤ The motherland of chess has taking the throne again, I don't know about other sports, but the support india gives to chess is unmatchable🫡 Bravo👏India 🇮🇳 now you have 2 champions. ❤And Ding you proved once a champion always a champion, the toughest fight you gave to Gukesh until the last game was unforgettable, maybe your crown goes to another one but still you are the 17th king in chess history. All the very best for your journey in future ❤
