​@@un_known5895 I don't wana spoil much but the machinery of death got fucked up after ysera died canonically. She is the LAST soul to make it to the shadowlands. Canonically, this happened before Ysera died. Varian would have gone to the shadowlands. Anyone after the time around Genn shattered that lamp vs. Sylv would be sent to the maw. So if you're wondering if he got there, by all means he should have. If you're worried about him actually being in the story in shadowlands, I don't think that's someone Blizz would pass up. Especially with Anduin being there as well.

Here's a bit of lore that might help y'all out: The Elf is Slyvanas Winrunner, once a High Elf Ranger-General, who was defeated by Arthas during the destruction of Quel'Thalas (The Blood Elf's starting zone). She was then resurrected to served the Lich King as a Banshee, but eventually betrayed them both (especially Arthas) and started her own faction of Undead, known as the Forsaken and became the Banshee Queen, and eventually joined the Horde. The Blood Elves y'all are playing are what remains of the High Elves. In terms of what's going on this cinematic: After the events of Warlords of Draenor, the orc, Gul'dan (the green orc in the previous cinematic), had made a pact with the Burning Legion in the Alternate timeline, but was cast away into the present timeline...So, he carries out his pact by help bringing back the Burning Legion to their world of Azeroth. This is perhaps considered the third time the Burning Legion has attempted to invade Azeroth, first being the events in the book series, War of the Ancients, and second during the events of Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos. King Varian Wrynn (The guy and voice in the cinematic) made an alliance with both the Alliance and the Horde to fight off this common enemy...Initially, he never really trusted the Horde due to his past interactions with them, but with help of his son, Anduin, who was a follower of the Light, taught him there is more to life than just fighting and war. The blade you also see him wield is known as Shalamayne , a Night Elf blade, and that has a whole lore/story of its own... Hopefully this super brief lore help y'all out! Also, I love how y'all are appreciating the details in the cinematic. It's so crazy seeing the evolution of them and how far they've come from the first WoW cinematic. Even crazier, if you've seen some of their older Blizzard game cinematic, you'll definitely see how much heart and soul they pour into these! Definitely recommend y'all to check them out, including the in game cut scenes!

I never played Legion (stopped playing WOW in cata) so I cant judge how good it was, but i will say the in-game cinematics for Legion were on point. Broken shore, guldan getting iced by illidan, illidan refusing the gift, Kil'jaden talking to sargaras, all were FIRE!!

Remember The Burdens of Shao Hao, Lords of War, Harbingers, Warbringers and now Shadowlands Afterlife. Sorry don't want to be spammy about these but I really want to see your reactions... Although I agree with some other comments, The Burdens of Shao Hao is a bit lame. She was not a Night Elf, she was indeed a Blood Elf but an undead one (comments don't @ me for this technicality they don't know lore yet) She is Sylvanas Windrunner leader of the undead faction. The rock things are called Infernals and yes, The Burning Legion is one of the true enemies.

Though the Alliance and Horde are typically against each other in WoW, Legion is one of the expansions when the Horde and Alliance worked together to defeat a common enemy. That's why the narrator (Varian, the King of Stormwind during this time) was writing a letter to his son (Anduin, who you may see in the throne room of Stormwind if you have been there in-game) saying it is difficult to trust after all he has lost. Anduin is much more trusting of the Horde than Varian so he's basically saying that he learned to work with them thanks to him. As for the "Night Elf" in this cinematic, that is Sylvanas Windrunner, and she's part of the Horde. If you want to learn more about her she has a Warbringers cinematic all about her past. She is an important part of the Blood Elves' past because she helped try to protect their land from the undead (I know you've played the belf starter area on stream :D) but was killed by Arthas (the guy in the Wrath of the Lich King trailer) and risen as a banshee. After breaking free from Arthas' will she became the leader of the Forsaken, the Undead race in-game who are part of the Horde. When you watch the Battle for Azeroth trailer you'll see more of her. Anyone who is a lore nerd feel free to fix anything if I got it wrong 'cause there's too much to remember for my smol brain. Just don't spoil anything 'cause they haven't gotten to BFA yet D:

The narrator/warrior in the video is King Varian Wrynn, king of Stormwind. His son, Anduin, has been pushing for the Alliance and Horde to put aside their differences. The elf is Sylvannas Windrunner and she used to be a Highborne Elf (the ones who mostly became Blood Elves). Long story short on her is she was killed back in Warcraft 3, was brought back as a banshee, reunited with her body, and eventually became the Banshee Queen over the Forsaken. The Forsaken are, of course, part of the Horde. Thing about this invasion of the Burning Legion is that it's the largest invasion in history. At this point there is still a lot of distrust between the Alliance and Horde, but both sides are trying to put that aside because they realize the severity of the situation.

Quick run-through on what's going on: On Draenor the Iron Horde, allied with the Legion through orc warlock Gul'dan, was defeated by the Forces of Azeroth. But Gul'dan himself fled to our world. Led by his dark masters he started a new Legion invasion (3rd in 10 000 years). Horde and Alliance gathered their forces and traveled to the "source". In the cinematic we see Varian Wrynn, the king of the Alliance, leading his forces, hoping to save his world. To be continued in the Broken Shore Alliance cinematic.

So that elf is actually an Undead (or Forsaken), named Sylvanas Windrunner, the Banshee Queen aka The Dark Lady. She was representing the Horde meeting up with the High King of the Alliance, King Varian Wrynn. They lead the Vanguard against Burning Legion on the Broken Shore, meeting them head on since they've been attacking all over Azeroth (the name of the entire planet by the way not just a nation).

The females name is Sylvanas she looks like an elf because she was once a high elf or “blood elf” she was killed by arthas or the lich king. To be resurrected by the banshees and later made their queen she now leads the forsaken or “undead” for the horde the whole point of the legion expansion was to make point that the alliance and horde would have to work together to repel the burning legion or the demon race. I do hope you choose to watch the cinematics for the this expansion before moving on as they are extremely heart wrenching and filled with so much emotion. Keep it up

King Varian Wrynn never gets his compass back but as a player you eventually find it and return it to his son Anduin. This trailer is continued in the Alliance Broken Shores and the Horde broken shores trailers. They pick up from where this one finished and shows the battle from both perspectives. I would suggest doing Alliance then the Horde.

The human in the video is actually Varian Wrynn. An amazing human warrior and leader of both the human race and that of the overall Alliance. The elf is actually the leader of the forsaken for the Horde, Sylvanas Windrunner. Shes also undead like the rest of the forsaken in the Horde. The backstory is long and complicated. But know that the boy pictured in Varian's compass is that of his son Anduin Wrynn as a child. Anduin is a very powerful priest in the modern game. Historically speaking, Varian has taken a more pragmatic (violent) approach towards the Horde. As his life and experience with the Horde has been filled with pretty much nothing but bloodshed and slaughter. And not entirely an unwarranted approach either given the Horde's past mistakes and transgressions of their own. Especially towards the Alliance. Anduin however is a bit more idealistic. Since he is relatively young, he has the benefit of not having to have had to live through those past events with the Horde and has gotten to see the Horde not as they once were but rather how they are now. And as such he has spent years trying to make his father take a more diplomatic approach towards the Horde. Varian has understandably been having a very difficult time trying to overcome his own personal demons and grievances against the Horde, but this is the first real time we saw him admit that although difficult for him to swallow, perhaps it's time to start trusting the Horde a little. A very tiny bit. And that such an endeavor could be worthwhile down the road. Eventually. This is why Varian said the lines that he did. That it has been difficult for him to trust [the Horde] but that he does now believe as [Anduin does]. But to preserve [that chance at peace with the Horde] you must be willing to fight. It marks a big moment for Varian in his personal evolution as both an individual and leader of the Alliance. It's a fantastic moment of growth. For a little more context. Hostorically speaking. The first orcish Horde was formed and manipulated by the burning legion (as you guys' called it the "green nation" guys featured here) to be used as a weapon to invade Azeroth against the orcs knowledge. The orcs were essentially brainwashed slaves to the burning legion. The first Alliance, which was mostly human, fought them off. The orcish Horde fell apart and its remnants enslaved by the human Alliance. The orcs eventually rebelled against the humans, and formed the new and current Horde which grew to include more member races who were just trying to survive in the face of either the Alliance or other outside forces. The Alliance, fearing another demonic Horde invasion, responded in kind and reformed and grew to include other races as the Horde did. The two factions have been at each others throats ever since. This cinematic thus represents the first major shift in mentality the two factions have towards one another. Which was a big moment in the game. Before this, all moments of cooperation were reluctant at best.

Bit of explanation on who everyone is in this cinematic, though I'm sure other people have explained it as well. The elf we saw fighting with the bow is Sylvanas Windrunner, a High Elf (high elves are kinda like the night elf and blood elf common ancestor, a few still exist in modern day) who was killed in events prior to the main game by the Lich king. She was brought back as a banshee, and through a whole process that isn't entirely important to these events, broke free of the Lich King's control and formed the Forsaken Nation with many other freed undead. Since then she's proven herself to the entire world to be loyal to no one and prone to backstabbing her allies, so she's not exactly the most popular. The main human guy who narrated the cinematic is King Varian Wrynn, the king of Stormwind and leader of the Alliance. He is a great warrior and highly respected amongst both the Alliance and the Horde, though he's also one to hold a grudge. His son Anduin is who he's writing the letter to, and who is shown on his compass. Anduin has always believed that peace is always something to aspire to, and has been a longtime advocate of forgiveness between the Alliance and Horde. In this cinematic, the two factions are seen working together to tackle the Burning Legion, who have returned to Azeroth for the 3rd time in hopes of conquering the planet. The demon boi from the Warlords cinematic was also a high ranking demon from the same faction. As you guys said, the Burning Legion are more or less the primary bad guys in WoW, them and the Old Gods, who don't really make a massive appearance in any of the trailers and are a bit harder to identify. The Legion has been on a galaxy-wide crusade, conquering every planet in their path, and along the way they take more demons to bolster their armies. Up until Azeroth, they've never been defeated and pushed back. Besides just unimaginably vast armies, they also utilize clever trickery and dark magics to achieve victory. For example, the Lich King was originally created by trapping a warlock's soul inside of a helmet, then sending it and a massive army of mindless undead, known as the Scourge, to Azeroth's northernmost continent to set the stage for the Legion's inevitable return. Hope that helps clarify things a bit!

I think you are confusing highborne elves with high elves. The night elves had a caste system where the highborne were higher as they were better magic wielders. After they were banished the highborne become high elves. Most of the surviving high elves became blood elves but not all (Alleria and Verseesa Windrunner as a few examples).

....she died before the term "blood elf" was coined. Ghostlands as a separate forest is probably slightly older than the term "blood elf" as well. The term "high elf", however, is millennia older than her. Since she didn't survive the Fall of Quel'Thalas, but was born after Kalimdor became a myth to all but the oldest surviving high elves of the time, neither blood nor night are correct.

You noted the level of detail in this one, you're gonna love Battle for Azeroth's cinematic and Shadowlands. You were right about the blood elves, originally they were called the high elves and their homeland of Quel'Thalas had a font of magical power called the Sun well. An unstoppable undead army, called the Scourge, washed over their kingdom like the wave of death that it was. By the time the well was defiled and the bulk of the undead left 90% of the elves were left. To keep the defiled arcane energies from corrupting his people Crown prince Kael'thas Sunstrider had the Sun well destroyed. And he renamed his people the Sin'dorei (Blood elves) in homage to his slaughtered bretheren. Sylvanas Windrunner, the elf in the cinematic, was the military leader of Quel'Thalas the Ranger General. She was killed by the Death Knight champion Arthas who then raised her as an undead wraith. She later got her body back and became the leader of undead with no ties to the Lich king, the Forsaken. And they joined the Horde.

You guys have to watch in-game cinematics to learn the story. These are only the beginning for each story. So here Alliance and Horde band together again, to fight against burning legion invasion. Many dramatic and impacts happened to story during this time period, so must react to the in-game cinematic Character in Cinematic. Varian Wryn - Former king of Alliance and Humans. Killed in this exact battle (²⁰¹⁶). Leadership is passed to his son Anduine, who's current king now. Sylvannas windrunner - former highelven ranger general. Killed in Warcraft 3(¹⁹⁹⁵). And ressurected as undead elf. High elves are now blood elves in game. Sylvannas was Warchief of Horde during this time until 2020. Minor mobs in Cinematic - Infernos (rock thing). Felguards( axe), felbats (bats) Sylvannas is the major protagonist and probably villain or saviour after this point. Note: compass is not really gone. Players can swim and find it as quest to return it to Anduine.

A lot of comments explain about the Burning legion and sylvanas and the lore, so i will explain other things, in this expansion before the cinematic tráiler Blizzard released 3 shorts stories (like Overwatch origin stories) called Harbringers talking about three important characters of the expansion, Guldan the orc, Khadgar the mage, and Illidan the demon hunter, also they made 5 shorts about the more important warlords in draenor called Lord of the war. And finally they made the same for Battle for Azeroth 3 shorts called warbringers and 4 shorts for Shadowlands called Afterlives

So basically, the Burning Legion are this army of demons that have destroyed world after world and have made a few attempts to destroy the planet WoW is set on, which is called Azeroth. WoW: Legion is the latest and biggest attempt at invasion yet, and the Alliance, led by King Varian Wrynn (the main character in the cinematic), and Horde, represented in this video by the Banshee Queen Sylvanas Windrunner, have united to push the invasion back at the Broken Shore. Varian has long been a big hater on the Horde, for good reason, since they murdered his father and destroyed Stormwind when he was a little kid, so this video is showing a ton of growth in his character that he's gotten from his son, Anduin Wrynn, who is a big peace-lover. He never would have worked with the Horde before this. Honestly, if you guys watched the in-game cutscenes you would get so much more lore than you do from the cinematics.

Ok so basic recap, the Legion (aka the Burning Legion) is an infinite army of space demons, and one of the main enemies in wow. Mannoroth, the big green demon from the Warlords of Draenor cinematic, the one who gave his blood to the orcs, is one of the big bad guys from the Legion. As a result of the evens of Warlords of Draenor, and everything that happened in that timeline, the legion have returned to Azeroth. They’ve been here before, this is the third war against them. They have conquered and destroyed infinite planets. Azeroth is the only one to have ever beaten them back. But now the legion is back and it’s back with a vengeance. The main dude in this cinematic is Varian Wrynn, king of the alliance. The main girl in this cinematic is Sylvanas Windrunner, she’s the queen of the forsaken, who are undead, but good guys. Not the scourge, not with the lich king. The forsaken (and sylvanas) are on the horde, the other faction in the game. As you guys know, the horde and the alliance have been going at it for years now. But they have to unite to defeat the legion. Or the world will be destroyed. P.S. DO SOME SEPERATE RESEARCH ON SYLVANAS!!! Seriously. Go to Wowwiki, search up sylvanas. Get to know her. She’s a super important character for the next 2 cinematics you have to watch. And if you don’t know her story, the next cinematics WILL NOT make any sense to you. Like, less sense than these ones do. Good luck!

About the Kung Fu Panda and the pandaren race, they arent a cameo or base in the Dreamworks film, Mist of Pandaria truely apear after Kung Fu Panda but the idea of pandaren came from 2000 and the first pandaren appear in Warcraft III

Sylvanas is not a night elf she is a undead high elf, her skin is that color because she died. Azeroth is the name of the planet and not a kingdom. The guy with the sword is the former king of Stormwind and leader of the Alliance King Varian Wyrnn aka Logosh.
