When Azeroth became... "protected" 5 dragons were chosen as it's guardians, each was a leader of a whole family of dragons. They each had their own aspect of magic, Arcane, Life, Time, the "Dream Realm" (hard to explain), and Earth. This dragon was Neltharion, the Earth Warder. He had "dominion over the earth and the deep places of Azeroth". But something very evil was down there, he became corrupted, turned against all the other aspects and became "Deathwing". He had been defeated and banished, but finally came back, and his very emergence into our realm broke the planet. In-game, most of the game's territory got an overhaul/facelift, a lot of it showing the damage of the cataclysm.

That big boi is the black dragon formerly known as Neltharion, the Earth-Warder, given dominion over protecting the land and the deep places of the world by the Titans. 10,000 years ago, he was corrupted by the Old Gods (Lovecraftian entities the Titans imprisoned deep beneath Azeroth) and was driven mad with jealousy and paranoia of his fellow Aspects. Forging a powerful artifact called the Dragon Soul, he had all the dragonflights imbue their essence into it (except the black) and used it to decimate the invading forces of the Burning Legion in their first invasion. He also used it to practically wipe out the blue dragonflight after they realized his true plan was to rule the world instead and confronted him. After this, he became forever known as Deathwing, the Destroyer. He was driven to sanctuary in the Elemental realm of Deepholm, where he recuperated from his wounds, but the power he had accumulated was threatening to literally rip him apart, with large cracks appearing all over his body. He had his goblin slaves create great plates of Elementium armor and ordered them to affix them to his hide, sealing the cracks and literally holding him together (what you saw in the beginning of the cinematic). Since he's still technically the Aspect of Earth, as he said in the vid, "The world heaves with my torment", which it did, breaking the world in many places, causing floods, volcanic eruptions, and catastrophic earthquakes. This expansion used that as a way to revamp old Azeroth leveling zones from the base game to make a more streamlined questing and leveling experience, and create storylines for each zone, whereas before it was very haphazard and sent new players all over the place without rhyme nor reason. Deathwing also unleashed the chained Elemental Lords who had done the bidding of the Old Gods in the past, but now served him: Neptulon the Tidehunter, Al'Akir the Windlord, Therazane the Earthmother, and Ragnaros the Firelord. The forces of both the Alliance and the Horde had to band together to stop them all, and ultimately, with the aid of Thrall, former Warchief of the Horde, took down Deathwing and his Twilight's Hammer cultists and ended the threat of the Cataclysm.

To clarify why the body of Deathwing was so messed was because of N'Zoth (one of the 4 Old Gods), N'Zoth is using Deathwing as a pawn to rule Azeroth, and for that purpose Deathwing was infused with N'Zoth power, but the magic that the Old Gods use is Void Magic, this magic can torn your body apart and make you insane, wich leads to the trailer, Deathwing received SO MUCH Void Energy that his body is constantly breaking, thats why you see the Orcs in the cinematic building the armor, the purpose of that armor was not to protect Deathwing, but to prevent his body to shatter in pieces.

The story of cataclysm is about a dragon called “Deathwing the world breaker” and his story begins thousands of years ago when he and 4 other of his other siblings defeated the cannabalistic alpha dragon Galagrond and the titans on the planets(technically gods on Azeroth) they embued them all with power. Deathwing was known as the world warder and he was eventually corrupted by the old gods that were sealed deep in the planet. Fast forward to 10,000 years ago and it’s the first invasion of the legion on Azeroth and during the climatic end fight deathwing convinces his 4 other siblings to gather their power all together into an object called the “dragon soul” but it was a trick and he used it against them to absorb their power, he killed the majority of the blue dragon flight in that battle but the power tore his body apart so he had to retreat. During that time he spent his time recovering in the maelstorm caused by the first sundering of Azeroth in a place called “deepholm” were he repaired his torn body with the metal plating you seeing until he was fully recovered. Once recovered he break free from the maelstrom causing the second sundering of Azeroth 10,000 years after the war with the legion(present time at this point) he destroyed majority of the world and it was our job to stop him. If you truely want to play world of Warcraft I would highly suggest waiting until the expansion comes out later this year called “shadowlands” as the game is not very new player friendly right now but that is changing in shadow lands they have a brand new, new player zone that will give you a really amazing tutorial on how to play the game and how to place your character/class.

Lets put some facts in: - Azeroth: the homeworld (planet, actually) of the players in WoW - the dragon in this cinematic: this is Neltharion, the Earth-Warder (1 of 5 dragons to protect Azeroth). At this time of the story he became "Deathwing, the Destroyer" - he, as the Earth-Warder, in his home beneath the surface was kindda "close" to the imprisoned Old Gods* (*edited , their prisons being deep beneath the surface too). The Old Gods whispered into Neltharion's mind over time and corrupted him. He got mad and now wanted to destroy everything and everyone. - the city he "landed on" is Stormwind, the capital of the Alliance faction. - the cataclysm with tsunami, earthquakes, etc, was caused by his break-out from "Deepholm" (where he got his armor as you saw). => "His explosion into Azeroth was so powerful that it tore a rift between the Elemental Plane and Azeroth and caused earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and floods, reshaping the very face of the world." read more here wowwiki.fandom.com/wiki/Deathwing

So Azeroth is the planet that World of Warcraft takes place on. The dragon talking is named Neltharian/Deathwing. He's one of five dragon aspects, which are basically the leaders of the different colors of dragons. Deathwing is the leader of the black dragons which were corrupted many, MANY years ago by lovecraftian inspired being called Old Gods. That's actually why the plates are being forged into him, his power is literally ripping him apart. Him and his dragonflight are connected directly to the earth and the land which is why the earthquakes destroy the landscape in Cataclysm. Deathwing is a pawn of these beings who are using him (and many others in the Warcraft lore) to break out of their prisons and allow Void to corrupt the universe. Also the ice dragon is dead at this point. The early expansions are not interconnected. So the story of Vanilla doesn't really effect the Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King doesn't really connect with Cataclysm, etc. This does eventually change later on where certain characters and story points will bridge the gap between expansions. But as of now, don't bother making connections to the expansions.

Those people weren't hammering that stuff on Deathwing (the dragon) to contain it. But rather those were cultists trying to help Deathwing. You can ride dragons, but the dragons you can ride are younger and smaller. The dragons featured in the cinematics (Sindragosa in Wrath of the Lich King and Deathwing in Cataclysm) are older dragons, and you can only fight them as bosses. However, some of the younger dragons that you can ride look almost exactly like the smaller versions of Sindragos and Deathwing! Also, while you aren't "riding" him in the conventional sense, part of the fight with Deathwing involved climbing on his back and trying to break his armour off, so that the orc leader Thrall can shoot him. You are on his back, but he does not like it and tries to roll to get rid of you.
@Miesha884 жыл бұрын
This guy, Deathwing as others have named him, he's so angry that his blood is literally boiling. The armor they were putting on the dragon was to keep his skin attached to his body, so he wouldn't fall apart and become a corrupted monstrosity due to the hellish things he discovered in the deep places of the world, which has been slowly mutating him over the past 10,000+ years. Also yes, he did cause all of the cataclysmic events. Tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes. He broke the world with his return, but was eventually defeated.

The dragon is called Deathwing the Destroyer, the World Breaker, the Black Scourge, formerly known as Neltharion the Earth-Warder. The event you are actually watching was called "The Shattering" which is the moment Deathwing literately wrecked the world of Azeroth and brought all the factions to their knees. The Twilight Hammer cultist were the ones actually fusing metal to his body to keep Deathwing from falling apart because of his current state. He was actually one of the leaders of the 5 Dragonflights, specifically the Black Dragonflight which is supposed to be the protectors of the earth. However, he was corrupted by the old gods of Azeroth and thus changed from Neltharion Aspect of Earth to Deathwing the Aspect of Death. The dragon from the Wrath of the Lich King Cinematic is Sindragosa which was the former Queen of the Blue Dragonflight before she was killed and brought back to life as a frost wrym in service of the Lich King. She is actually one of the bosses you have to fight in Icecrown Citadel. BTW you are missing a ton of lore...

1: azeroth is the name of the world all playable characters live on it currently, like earth, mars, the planet name is azeroth which has it's own kingdoms and shit. 2. DEATHWING formerly known as neltharion the earth-warden was one of the 5 aspects and guardians of the planet azeroth (all of them were dragons) he is going mad and in trilogy of "war of the ancient" you read how he deceives others to put their magic in an artifact (called dragon soul or demon soul) and use that on everybody friend or foe, with every use of it his own skin fell of and showing molten lava inside cause he has strong connection to earth. after that the goblins put some plating armor on him with his own order ofcourse, then after while (some stories) the story of "night of dragon" happens in which he defeated once again and buried or retreat into a pocket dimension thingy which is called elemental plane, in events of cata some cultists named twilight hammer joining him again and puttin stronger armor on him with his order again. they mess up elemental planes and all elements lash out, earth, fire, wind, water that brings the world to cataclysmic events. 3. as i said on another video players despite their faction hate (horde and alliance) putting aside their war and put an end to eminent threat of their world being torn apart by DEATHWING, and he is the end boss of expansion which gets teased in this cinematic. 4. pls dont go for WOD cinematic and expansions after that without a bit knowledge of lore and a bit search, if you dont want to read books, play a bit wrcraft3, see some videos nobble channel is my recommendation, i'm glad atleast someone decided to read the lore. props to jamie

The black dragons are the earth protectors. 10,000 years ago there was a massive war. Minor Lore of an encounter with Deathwing and Sindragosa, the other dragon in the Wrath of the Lich King: Sindragosa is part of the Blue Aspect Dragons, who has an affinity towards magic & Arcane, and shewas sent to attack Deathwing, formerly known as Neltharion, along with large amount of the blue dragons. But, He possessed a powerful weapon known as the Dragon Soul, and nearly wiped out the Blue Dragons with it. and Sindragosa was fatally injured from this. The Blast was so powerful, she was hurled into the frozen land of Northrend, where she wandered until she died and cursed her Dragon Aspect (leader), Malygos. There, her remains were frozen and undisturbed....Until the Lich King reanimated her, and that's where you see it all happen in the Wrath of the Lich King Cinematic.

Apologies if anyone mentioned this already. The original game did not have flying mounts, only ground mounts. With the first major expansion, The Burning Crusade, they created a whole other world that was reached via The Dark Portal. That is where they introduced flying mounts. Unfortunately, because of the older code for the original world, they could not make the new flying mounts work there. The only way they could do it is to recode all of the original world and trash what was there before so this gave them the opportunity to creatively change everything. Thus, Cataclysm.

INFO DUMP You're right to say factions. Mainly the Horde and Alliance which are the playable factions in the first 2 Warcraft games. In Warcraft 3 the armies were human, orc, undead and night elf. I'll go into the first 3 Warcraft games and how they're different from WoW and how they're all 4 different from the movie after the dragon stuff below if you want to check that out. Dragons are far from animals in this. Not only are they sentient and speak but they often take humanoid forms (elves, orcs and others as well). Deathwing here is one of the 5 Dragon Aspects and was originally known as Neltharion and was the guardian of earth. Specifically the elemental plane Deepholm which is a metaphysical plane of the element of earth for Azeroth. Ten thousand years pre-Warcraft he was corrupted by the Old God's (beings inspired by the Old Ones from HP Lovecraft's C'thulhu mythos) and was convinced to betray the other 4 aspects (similar to him) and their flights. Hence, Neltharion the Earth-Warder became Deathwing the Destroyer. The 5 Aspects are basically demi gods,. In their more primitive forms even before the War of the Ancients ten thousand years ago they saved the world from a massive dragon called Galakrond. A race of godlike beings called the Titans who kind of remake worlds evolved and empowered these 5 dragons which made them into the Aspects. These 5 Aspects were charged with guarding different Aspects of Azeroth's existence. Neltharion and his black dragonflight guarded the elements themselves and the deep places of the world and it's elemental planes. Nozdormu the Timeless One, his charge is all in the name. He and his bronze dragonflight have the ability to shift through time and basically police time itself and all the alternate timeways and TRY to make sure they don't interfere with one another but of course...time travel writing was bound to happen. Ysera the Dreamer and her green dragonflight guards a sort of nature dimension called the Emerald Dream. It's like another version of Azeroth existing in the same place simultaneously but on another frequency like in the background. It's basically the blueprint of Azeroth before any mortal civilization interfered with nature. Malygos the Spell-Weaver and the blue dragonflight was given the task of guarding Azeroth's "ley lines" and had dominion of all arcane magic essentially watching mortal races who wielded magic and making sure they didn't do anything catastrophic. Alexstrasza the Life-Binder served as the Queen of Dragons and was the leader of the Wyrmrest Accord. Essentially leading a council of all 5 flights. She and her red dragonflight lead the others and protected life itself on Azeroth. Though the Aspects once had a bond like brothers and sisters she was literally Ysera's sister. Their fight with Galakrond and being given their powers was all done after a war between the Titans and Old Gods for dominion of Azeroth. Also a lot of people never get this but think of WoW and it's expansions as Warcraft 4. Here are the first 3 games....basically.... Warcraft: Orcs & Humans 1994: 10 years before World of Warcraft we had the first game which was a real time strategy game more like Starcraft if you're familiar with that. Basically orcs invaded Azeroth and humans of the Kingdom of Azeroth (now called the Kingdom of Stormwind since Azeroth is the planet's name) fought them. Depending on which campaign you played you got a different ending and not all elements of both campaigns or canon or non-canon. If you finish the orc campaign the epilogue explains that now you're the leader of the Horde and the orc warlocks want permission to continue their experiments with "the portal" that brought the Horde into this world revealing how the Orcish Horde first got to Azeroth. The movie is LOOSELY based on this game and is NOT a World of Warcraft movie. It uses some elements from all the games and while I liked it I didn't love it personally. It botches and rewrites a lot of the lore and leaves some loose ends that REALLY don't make sense and kill the setup for the sequels. Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness 1995: In WC2 some parts of both campaigns are used for the official story but basically the humans lost and had to retreat to another kingdom. They formed the Alliance of Lordaeron with high elves who owed them some favors, dwarves and gnomes as well as the other 5 human kingdoms (7 in total at that time). The orcish Horde ends up recruiting trolls (native to Azeroth and long time enemies of humans and elves) and goblins (basically con artists and pirates) and swell their ranks with undead units and ogres from their world (Draenor). In the end the Horde lost and was halved with most of one half being captured and some running free and the other half trapped on their world Draenor after the Alliance finds and destroys the Great Portal (later renamed The Dark Portal). Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal expansion 1996: This expansion had campaigns with smaller scale conflicts, at least in story terms and took place on the orc homeworld Draenor. The story is that even though the frame of the Dark Portal was destroyed the rift itself, though smaller was still there and could theoretically be reopened. So an orc shaman named Ner'zhul did that of course and sent an elite force through not for conquest but to acquire certain artifacts from Azeroth so he could try open a new Dark Portal from Draenor to some other unsuspecting world that they could take easier. The Alliance Expedition forces went through to shut the portal down for good from the other side and stop the orcs. Ner'zhul playing with magics beyond him accidentally opened several portals just as strong as the Dark Portal which caused the magical conduits of energy that permeate the planet (the ley lines) to buckle and tear the world apart. Instead of everything dying however the chunks of the planet were dumped into the Twisting Nether which is like a alienish hellish warped outer reality to the Warcraft universe where things like gravity and atmosphere don't behave right. The fabric of reality is....questionable there. Warcraft III Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne expansion: I won't spend as much time on this one as there really is far too much and it's worth playing Warcraft III Reforged which is the remake everyone is mad about (Mostly for multiplayer reasons and badly redone cutscenes that they cheaply outsourced to Taiwan). This one was far more story focused and the campaigns are linear meaning the story flows smoother. The ending of the human campaign leads to the undead campaign and it's ending leads to the orc campaign rather that taking place despite one another like the previous games (this is why they had to go back and make novels explaining what was official and what wasn't). WC3 summary: 20ish years later give or take 5 years. A plague makes undead, Prince Arthas investigates it, gets obsessed with vengeance, takes cursed sword which takes his soul, becomes a Death Knight of the Scourge, destroys his own kingdom, helps summon demon lord Archimonde into Azeroth for a big demon invasion. It's thwarted when Alliance and Horde forces sail west and discover a continent called Kalimdor and a race called night elves and all 3 armies band together. Illidan who was set free in WC3 goes big emo and calls naga (more night elves who were turned into serpent people after the War of the Ancients) and tries to destroy the Lich King for a demon lord called Kil'Jaeden, fails and gets bitch slapped by Arthas who becomes the Lich King in a cliffhanger from 2003 that wouldn't be answered until 2008-2010ish (Wrath of the Lich King). One major thing is Illidan runs off through the Dark Portal after it's reopened to what is left of Draenor and is now known as Outland. The big portal from the Burning Crusade intro. That's the Dark Portal which leads to Outland where from a WoW character's perspective we got to explore and find out what happened to the Alliance Expedition from WC2. Also, MOST fans of the Warcraft story agree that Warcraft 3 is where they should have set a series instead of a movie or AT LEAST a trilogy. Most of the plot and script is worthy of it. PEACE

if you are talking about Sindragosa from the Wrath of the Lich King video...Sindragosa is an undead dragon in that expac. There is lore in regards to who she was prior to the story. I am unfamiliar with it but yeah there is even lore I am not too familiar with. Sindragosa is killed by the adventurers in the Lich King expac too...The one in this expac is called Deathwing. Not sure what his dragon name is but his back story says at one time he was an aspect...what that means I am not 100% on but at some point he goes insane and the other dragons have to imprison him.

Azeroth is the name of the world. In case you want the correct order for the rest of the world of warcraft cinematics from this point and forward: Mist of pandaria. Warlords of draenor. Legion. Old soldier. Battle for azeroth. Lost honor. Safe haven. Reckoning. Shadowlands.

Lol Azeroth is the name of the planet. The dragon is named Neltharion, but is known as Deathwing (you can clearly see why). He’s a Demi-god who once protected the earth, and deep places of the world. But he went mad, and wants to destroy the whole planet (Azeroth) now. The expansion is about our fight to stop him. Sindragosa, the dragon from the Wrath of the Lich King cinematic, is just a normal dragon, but a very powerful one. She is undead, which is why she’s blue and tattered skeleton. She is one of the lich king’s prime champions/servants. Completely different expansion lol

to understand who this enemy is you need to understand the lore about the beginning of the wow universe: the titan pantheon came to azeroth and reshaped much of the lifeforms that dwelled there, they created the 5 dragonflights, and to the 5 leaders of each flight were imbued with some of the essence of each of the titan pantheon they represented: Neltharion the earthwarder (formerly), patriarch of the black dragonflight and imbued with the essence of the titan Khaz'goroth which gave him dominion over the very foundations of the earth allowing him to manipulate the very surface of the planet as he saw fit. Alexstrasza the life-binder, matriarch of the red dragonflight imbued with the essence of the titan Eonar, she had dominion over all life on Azeroth both charged with protecting life and ending it should the need arise. Malygos the spellweaver, patriarch of the azure dragonflight imbued with the essence of the titan Norgannon, he was given dominion over all the leylines and magic of Azeroth and charged with keeping it safe. Ysera the dreamer, matriarch of the emerald dragonflight imbued with the essence of the titan Eonar and charged with defending the emerald dream, a realm created by the titans that was a perfect utopia version of azeroth as if the titans had never visited. Nozdormu the timeless, patriarch of the bronze dragonflight imbued with the essence of the titan Aman'thul and charged with defending the timeways, making sure that time moved forward unhindered and that past events weren't changed to affect a different outcome in the present. after the titans left azeroth thinking that they had imprisoned the 'old gods' and that their pervasive whispers and power were contained they left these 5 dragon aspects and their flights behind as a way to police things, unfortunately the 'old gods' while their physical bodies were imprisoned deep in the planet their influence was able to seep out into the world, and due to his connection to the earth Neltharion eventually made contact with one of the 'old gods' unknowingly, N'zoth the corrupter, the 'old god' that the titans had imprisoned under the oceans started to whisper to Neltharion causing him to become paranoid and distrustful of his other dragon brethren, over time the whispers got progressively worse to the point where Neltharion was convinced to craft an artifact of great power that could subjugate the other dragons to his will, so secretly he started building it and he poured some of his own essence into it, he hid its true purpose and convinced his brethren that it was a weapon to fight the burning legion with and that they should also imbue it with their essence, having no reason to doubt what he was saying the other aspects did so, and that is when the nefarious purpose of the artifact became clear and they had been deceived it was around this time that the madness of Neltharion was made clear and he was unable to be saved from himself after he had acquired the fully powered artifact (known as the dragon soul and eventually the demon soul) he renamed himself Deathwing the destroyer, aspect of death, during constructing the artifact however he noticed that when one his scales fell off and landed on the artifact it caused it damage, as a result of this he guarded it fiercely and kept it on him at all times however the power of the artifact was literally tearing his body apart, to try to stop this he had the goblin smiths of the twilight's hammer cult forge elementium plates and had them forged into his flesh to hold his massive body together, he had them also fashion a new lower jaw as his own had disintegrated after this his transformation was complete and it was decided by the other aspects to unite and end their corrupted bother. Sadly they were unsuccessful and while they assumed he was dead he was actually hiding in the elemental plane of earth, deepholm, recuperating and after millennia he re-emerged and that's what starts the events of the cataclysm expansion.
@rogoth01themasterwizard114 жыл бұрын
also in regards to his size, he was the biggest of the dragon aspects and the largest living dragon in the world at the time, there was only one other dragon that was bigger than him and that was Galakrond, but that's a dragon story for another time.

Azeroth is the name of the planet.. she is a titan world soul that has not awaken yet. The name of the dragon is Neltharion aka. Deathwing the former aspect of earth ... he was corrupted by the old gods that were imprisoned in the depths of the earth since that was Deathwings domain he fell to the madness... corrupting his whole flight ( the black dragons). The dragon from the Lich King trailer is named Sindragosa she was a blue dragon, she was the mate of Maylgos & Deathwing killed her. The reason he has the adamantium armor is cause he is falling apart due to the corruption he inflicted on himself from the demon soul ( dragon soul).

In short, the black dragon name in this cinematic is Deathwing. He was one of the aspects of dragons and he is corrupted by the Old Gods. Old Gods are basically old dudes that used to rule over that planet (like Titans in Greek mythology) and they've been trying to get it back ever since. Deathwing caused a lot of catastrophic events as he is the aspect of earth/ground. To stop Deathwing, all of the other 4 other dragons used all of their power and sacrificed their immortality to kill Deathwing and stop the Old Gods. This is a very short explanation, it's only like 1/60 events that were happening, but this was the main one. And Old Gods picked their next target, but that's already in the next expansion. PS Legion and Demons are completely different and they also want Azeroth.

Ok lore time. This Neltharian, aka Deathwing. He's the strongest and biggest dragon in Azorath (reasons). Dragon from last cinematic is Sindragosa. She was killed by deathwing in war of ancient. And she was resurrected by Lichking as a weapon. Deathwing has longest lore in game. He's part of everything. He was sleep for years until this time. He awake to cause Cataclysm. Initially 5 dragons are protecting the world. Deathwing betrayed other 4 and cause a war. Malygos ( blue dragon king master of magic) leading the war against him. But he and his army parish by a weapon called dragon soul which is also made by Malygos. This war killed Malygos' wife and also put malygos into a coma for 10k years.

In game terms (and I came quite late to WoW), the 'Cataclysm' expansion catastrophically changed a lot of the landscape throughout the game - the normal game is post-Cataclysm; the 'Classic' version of the game is pre-Cataclysm. It was before my time, but it seems to me that it was a very daring game change for Blizzard to have made.

@karlrassmann46044 жыл бұрын
Big long lore drop, explains both the deep lore behind the creation of Azeroth that connects to this expansion and the events of the expansion. Probably more than you need to know for this but if you want some deep lore here ya go: Firstly, the planet Azeroth is an egg. Yes, an egg. It is still round, but alas, 'tis egg. Specifically, it holds the World Soul of a Titan, massive, planet-sized, powerful creatures that shape the universe into Order. Sargeras, lord of the Burning Legion, is a Titan turned bad. Azeroth's World Soul is why everyone wants to take over or destroy the world. For that reason, the Void Lords in their void dimension shotgun blasted Old Gods (C'thulhu monsters) into the universe in hopes of landing on a planet like Azeroth. Azeroth got hit by four Old Gods that we know of: C'thun, Yogg'Saron, Y'Shaarj (pronounced Yah-Shah-Raj) and N'Zoth (Pronounced Nuh-Zoth). Prior to their landing, Azeroth was in a state of chaotic warfare between the four Elemental Lords: Therazane the Stonemother, Neptulon the Tidehunter, Ragnaros the Firelord and Al'Akir the Windlord. The Old Gods defeated and imprisoned said Elemental Lords and then went on to enjoy brutally warring against eachother as a time killer while they tunneled their tentacles deeper into the earth to reach and corrupt the Titan Azeroth. Should they succeed, the Void will have a being of power great enough to bring the Void Lords into our reality, ending the universe. Then comes along the Titan Pantheon. They see how Azeroth is under siege and intervene. They start by ripping Y'Shaarj out of the planet's side, but the Old Gods were buried in deep. Ripping one out left a major wound in the planet. The Titans saw that they could not take that direct of an approach, so they instead created a group of Titanic Watchers to be their generals. The Watchers built facilities on the planet's surface that constructed more creatures, such as the Stone Dwarves, Mechagnomes, Vrykul, Tol'vir and Mogu races. First, the Watchers defeated the enslaved Elemental Lords. The watcher Ra-den crafted four Elemental Planes to house the elementals, and placed them there. These are known as Deepholm, The Abyssal Maw, The Firelands and Skywall. Eventually the Watchers were able to defeat the Old Gods, but not kill them. Instead, they were imprisoned in facilities througout the planet. At this point, the Titans then reshaped the planet's surface to create Order. They created one continent, Kalimdor, and at it's center turned the wound left by Y'Shaarj into the Well of Eternity, a large lake of immense magical power and later the seat of the Night Elf Empire up until the Sundering that split the planet into several continents. Seeing their work completed, the Titans empowered five proto-dragons (ancestors to modern dragons) with their power and left them as guardians to the planet. These dragons were: Alexstrasza the Lifebinder, leader of the Red Dragonflight and Aspect of Life; Ysera the Dreamer, leader of the Green Dragonflight and Aspect of the Dream (a mysterious realm nature springs from); Nozdormu, leader of the Bronze Dragonflight and Aspect of Time; Malygos the Spell-Weaver, leader of the Blue Dragonflight and Aspect of Magic; and finally Netharion, leader of the Black Dragonflight and Aspect of Earth. All was well for a time, but the Old Gods weren't finished. They unleashed the Curse of Flesh, which degenerated the Titan's creations and made them mortal. Stone Dwarves became modern Dwarves and sometimes Troggs. Vrykul became modern, mortal Vrykul and some degenerated further into Humans. Mechagnomes became Gnomes. Tol'vir and Mogu took on flesh as well. The Old Gods also began to spread their whispers of madness. Neltharion, being so connected to the earth the Old Gods were imprisoned beneath, was the most susceptible of the Dragon Aspects. Sadly, he was corrupted, and with him his dragonflight. N'Zoth is specifically credited with Neltharion's corruption, as he was the weakest but most clever of the Old Gods (A side note, we kill C'thun is Classic WoW and Yogg'Saron in Wrath of the Lich King). Neltharion concocted a plan to convince the other Dragon Aspects to give a portion of their power up in order to create an artifact known as the Dragon Soul. It was used to repel an invasion of the Burning Legion. At the last moment, Neltharion took back his portion, leaving the other Aspects weakened. This is when he took on the name Deathwing, the Destroyer. For his betrayal, the other Aspects battled him and cast him down deep through the earth into Deepholm, the Elemental Plane of Earth. There he stayed for thousands of years, growing more and more insane and corrupt. In the trailer, we see Deathwing's followers, members of the Twilight's Hammer cult who worship the Old Gods, hammering Elementium plates into his sides. This serves two purposes; Firstly, they make him nigh invulnerable; Secondly, Deathwing's body had become bloated and crumbling with corruption and the plates were essentially keeping him together. We see this oozing corruption through the lava seeping out from his claws. Deathwing breaks out of Deepholm, breaking open the ways to the Elemental Planes and scarring much of the planet. The destruction you see in the trailer is reflected in game. For example, Loch Modan is now dry because the dam broke and the Barrens has a giant chasm dividing it in two. Deathwing even nuked the entire Park District of Stormwind, the human capital he landed on at the end. The expansion of Cataclysm unlocked two new races for the Horde and Alliance. The Horde got the Goblins and the Alliance got the Worgen (more specifically, Gilneans, who are humans from the kingdom Gilneas. Gilneas was ravaged by the worgen plague, and they're all werewolves now). Cataclysm sends players across the original two continents of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms to the new zones Vashj'ir, Mount Hyjal, Deepholm, Uldum and the Twilight Highlands. Vashj'ir is an entirely underwater zone. It is a sunken Night Elf city where the Naga fight against Neptulon and his water elementals (the later of which are on our side). Mount Hyjal is the location of the world tree Nordrassil and a great place of power for the Night Elves and all of nature. It is besieged by the Twilight's Hammer cult and Ragnaros' forces, who threw their lot in with Deathwing since he also likes burning things. In Deepholm, we restore the World Pillar to keep the planet from collapsing in on itself and find allies in Therazane, who is not happy to see the Twilight's Hammer invade her home and attack her children. Uldum is an Egyptian-inspired desert zone where we meet the Tol'vir, a race of catlike people descended from Titan creations. We help the Tol'vir fight back against Al'Akir (who had also allied with Deathwing) and secure the local titan facilities. In Twilight Highlands, we take the fight to the capital of the Twilight's Hammer cult, with the help of local dwarf and orc clans. There's a content patch that revamps some old Troll-themed dungeons but they aren't super plot-relevant and were mostly fun filler content. There was also supposed to be a raid in the Abyssal Maw, but it got scrapped since they couldn't figure out how to make an underwater raid good. Instead, we got the Firelands raid where we permakilled Ragnaros (an elemental killed in it's plane is perma-dead. We also did Al'Akir this way.). In the end, with the help of the dragon aspects, we make a quick foray back in time to secure the Dragon Soul. The Dragon Aspects channel their remaining energy into the Dragon Soul, leaving them and their flights significantly more mortal. During the final raid, Thrall, the former Orcish Warchief turned Shaman, uses the Dragon Soul to Dragonball Z Kamehameha blast Deathwing out of the sky, knocking his elementium plates off. This leaves Deathwing vulnerable and causes him to essentially explode into his true form: A hideous mass of corrupt, bloody lava tentacles. We battle that, and Thrall takes one more Dragon Soul shot that more or less disintegrates Deathwing. In the wake of all this, the elements calm down. Thrall decides to stay with the shaman of the Earthen Ring, and leaves his protege Garrosh Hellscream in charge of the Horde, which is VERY important to know for the next expansion. We later find that Deathwing's destruction disrupted and dispersed the mysterious mists that had until now concealed the long lost land of Pandaria, which is the location of the next expansion video you will watch for WoW B) If any of you read this far through my post, thanks so much. Feel free to correct anything wrong I said here. I plan on making a post of similar girth for the other expansion videos as well, but this is probably the one that needs the most explaining since the Dragon Aspects connect to so much of the backstory. Thanks again!
