Honestly, even before they all shut down, Sears was always a really weird space. The one that was in the mall near me didn't have a strange setup, I don't think... but where the elevators were was kind of odd. You'd have to go into a hallway by the bathrooms to get to it, and all sound from outside just got drowned out while you were waiting. the first floor didn't have anything especially impressive back there, but the upstairs component had an office area behind a glass window when you'd step off of the elevator. The lights in there were never on (that I can personally remember), and the glow from the hallways lights on the waiting room chairs always spurred something in my young mind. The rest of the store was "creepy and comfy" in the sense that it was very quiet with only the soft music playing over the PA system, and familiar as I'd been there dozens of times before. It was never really crowded, even on holidays, so you could be in a section all by yourself for nearly an hour. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I could be confusing the store with JC Penney. Whoops! Either way, the feeling is the same. These department stores have been there since before I was born, and feel like what could be considered a "vacation home", if that makes sense. While I'm horrible with scary games in any capacity (I get scared at Minecraft!), your videos are wonderful to listen to. Your voice is calming, and makes it easier to take in the ambiance without my anxiety getting super wired up. Personally, I think you'd be a perfect choice for reading books to us with a soft rain in the background! (wink wink nudge nudge) Whatever the case, thank you for the video, Mr. Librarian! Always a treat coming from you. :D

I actually remember a Sears I went to in Canada that had all of the clothing racks disorganized in some kind of maze, with clothes behind stacked together so much it blocked pathways and navigating was incredibly difficult. I ended up getting lost trying to find my family and nearly went insane thinking they had forgotten about me and left me behind. Just as I was about to completely lose my mind, I found my grandma looking for some clothes to buy.

yeah there was a sears near where I lived (fredricton, new brunswick) at the regent mall, it shut down in like 2016 and I only went there a few times, but that ambiance of it was definitely scary, don't know if sygneg and I went to the same sears but it from what I remembered was pretty hard to get to, it was around back of the mall and barely any cars were at the parking lot for the sears. When it shut down instead of keeping the sign they took it down. Even though you're still able to see the slightly dryer area saying "sears" and incase you're wondering it was in Canada, at new brunswick's capital

@@LocalToaster. Oh cool. The Sears I went to was in a row of big box sore, sort of like some kind of giant strip mall. If I remember correctly, it was located on the edge of the city, as if it was in the middle of nowhere. Also, the Sears I went to was located in I think Missasauga or Brampton.

Jumpscares always are annoying in this format. I wish that people would do it clever way if they really want to include some. Say you walk a dark corridor, you hear a weird sound, then another after a while making you uneasy, then third time, much stronger and closer, you get anxious and then make something move really fast down the hallway right towards you, but instead of a screamer, have absolutely no sound and if you aim to have sound to indicate it, let it be an eerie one, almost like a breeze. I often find that scares that are easy to miss on first glance are the most shocking because you can't explain them. While the ones right in your face tend to just give you heart attack and curse right after, but nothing else. In the end tho, enjoyed this one again! Thank ya ^^

i feel like it would also work if there was just a thing in the distance screaming far away, you see it running towards you and as you try to escape its gone giving you the uncertainty wether its just a haluzination or someone else being in the same area, maybe with like a vent nearby that is open in a sideroom making you think if it was real or not like, anything but the cheap jpeg like, it works but its meh

There was a Sears near my home when I was younger. It was a giant building surrounded by parking lot. It was always empty (except for a few cars to show people actually worked there) The weirdest part about the store was that it had an escalator to go into the basement. The basement was mostly electronics and hardware, but it was always so empty and claustrophobic in there that I dreaded going; it was pretty much a maze with small corridors. And that's not to mention how dark it was down there. I'd say about half of the basement was ever lit, while the other half had to rely on the light from the tvs in the eletronics department. As creepy and secluded it was, I somewhat miss it.

Jumpscare JPEGs are the lowest form of "horror". But I guess designing a very creepy space took all of the creator's muse. Good horror toys with the player's/audience's imagination. A whisper from behind the player. A foot disappearing just out of view of a turning flashlight. Eyes in the darkness visible for only a moment. Your monster is infinitely more horrifying when the player/audience can only see parts of them.

At 10:24, it appears as though the black void became a new room, and after entering the new room, the old room becomes black void. This happens because this door way uses area portals, a custom type of source engine brush that hides and load parts of the map to save on resources. The explanation is that there is a missing door model in that location and soon interacting with it, it triggers the area portal to turn off and allow you to see through it. And when the door closes on its own, the area portal reactivates removing the ability to see through it.

This feels you we're doing a progression to complete the map itself that you need to make your way go out, but first you need the following steps to do it like finding stuffs to make operating mechanisms work and make your way into different side of the area. There could be like a Liminality of the surroundings but there we're no broken Flourescent lamps in the ceilings. Lastly, Jumpscares can make you feel really creeped out but there are some ocassions of being disappointed at some time Thank you for this video Lib.

I remember when our local mall had a SEARS. It was the first time I ever used an escalator! I used to love going to it and Kay’s Merchandise.

Sears has always given me a weird vibe, I don’t remember ever going in one, but just the logo and the colors and everything are just kind of unsettling to me

I'd love to see you play Killer Frequency. It's a really spooky radio based horror game in the same vein as 'Do you copy'.

What music was that on the radio? I feel like I always hear it in Gmod creepypastas, like it's default creepy Gmod music...

The sears map is a real Sears. It was in New Orleans it got demolished a couple years ago. It closed in 2005 due to hurricane Katrina and stayed abandoned in a corner of a open plaza
