I really like your videos Carl. I’ve been using light for over 2 years now, and I’m learning more from your videos than from anyone else on KZbin. One thing I would like you to say in your videos is how important it is to pay the yearly fee to keep getting updates. I say this because some of your viewers may not have done this and they go look for the warp tool and it’s not there. Keep the videos coming and I tell anyone that uses a laser that I know to check out your channel

Hi Steve. Thank you for the feedback and point taken about the annual renewal. I do sometimes forget that people may be perfectly happy back on 1.0 or earlier and still plugging along. LightBurn has been great all through its lifespan and production shops aren't always on the bleeding edge releases. That said, from 1.0 to 1.4 there have been some awesome new additions so hopefully this encourages people to upgrade.

Hi Carl, I stumbled across the warp tool, the other day, when trying to turn a SVG of a vinyl record, I was doing an engrave for a friend who is a DJ? It was his birthday gift and managed to lay the picture of the vinyl flat and put some dancers on the top it was proper awesome and you could still even read all the information on the record label . Keep up the videos fella they’re very useful

Again! Another GREAT video!! I work with alot of graphic programs. Only thing I miss (so far) is text warp presents like in Corel Draw.
@thetinkerverse11 ай бұрын
I'd actually like to hear more about that? I haven't been in Corel in probably 10 years so I'm not familiar.
@genabush461911 ай бұрын
@CarlFisher_F3 Corel has several presets(arch, angle, wave, etc) that you can use to warp and distort text. Basically, they are presets and also have nodes if you want to change them. The envelope function in Corel is the same as warp in lightburn. I'm really surprised lightburn is as inexpensive as it is and I find it stands close to many graphics programs. I'm also used to right clicking to move things forward and back instead of having to go to a menu but it's not like it's hard to find. If you ever find a printout of the hot keys I would love to have one.

I continue to be amazed about how powerful and easy to use is. The other amazement is the incredibly low price. If one doesn't need to have the newer features, one need not pay for an update, but that's likely to be crippling especially as the update cost is also low.
@thetinkerverse11 ай бұрын
One of the best values out there for what you get. I'm amazed honestly at how much they are able to accomplish for the price point of the software.

Yep have to agree. I’ve been using autocad, rhino and recently fusion 360 so I have some cad experience and I was up and running in about 45 minutes after watching a few videos. Since then I’ve gotten deeper into it and am impressed with how complex i can be if you want it to be, or how simple if you just want to basic stuff. Well worth the price.

Just a quick note on the Radius tool, if you have 'Shape Properties' turned on in the window menu, you can alter the radius of all corners in one go...
@thetinkerverse11 ай бұрын
Yep and in 1.5 you can do it with a drag handle now too. And yes, the shape properties can be used to adjust if you want to do all at once.

Lightburn is the bomb and so are you Carl, well done and concise! I'll be back for more education, thank you. I hope LB never goes to subscription! Keep buying the annual update costs people, don't give their genius a reason to get greedy! Note the word "buying" versus "subscription", if you want to stop purchasing because you have all the talent of theirs that you need, then you're set and can use it until Windows (OS) screws it up somehow, but if you're like me and want to keep going on what they come up with, but don't want to fall in the useability trap of subscriptions, keep buying the updates so their work can pay off for them. My 2 cents on the way Adobe started the software trend imo!
@thetinkerverse9 ай бұрын
I forget how Joe put it, but it was along the lines of "if you buy it, it's yours to use until the heat death of the sun" or something close to that. Unlike many of the online only packages that require ongoing subscriptions and active internet connections, you buy LB and it's yours and going forward you only need to pay if you want updates beyond the first year. I hate what Adobe did. I used to own most of those tools outright but this subscription thing is bonkers. The price for Illustrator is insane. I am forced to pay the $10/mo for the photography plan that includes PS and LR though. Thank god for Inkscape but honestly 98% of everything I need to design for a laser is right in Lightburn now! Sorry, struck a nerve with the Adobe thing LOL.
@QuagmireLXIX9 ай бұрын
@thetinkerverse lol, striking a nerve is what my comment is all about, and I will be posting more of them on LB videos. I'm getting a cnc machine today and the subscription model is running rampant in cad/cam as well. As you said, thanks to community driven software, they are gr8 options until one becomes comfortable to shell out big bucks. I keep supporting those communities and while LB isn't that software, they are holding to an excellent software model that has been going the way of the dodo. LB does so much for me on the laser to. Thanks again for your tut work!

I'd advise against changing existing hot keys. Every time you watch/read anything on Lightburn and someone mentions the hot keys they are using you're going to have to think to yourself what that hot key is supposed to do, and what did you change it to. You're better off in the long run just learning the hot keys as default.

Good day, so do you think this could replace Adobe Illustrator? Sure there would be some limitations but Adobe is just expensive at $56 a month. Your thoughts please...
@thetinkerverse2 ай бұрын
I don't use Adobe Illustrator personally. I do everything I need in either LightBurn directly or Inkscape if I need something more. I do recognize AI has some good tools not easily replicated so at the end of the day it's up to you to decide. LB is extremely capable, but it's not a complete design tool like AI is.
@MrJfrutuoso197211 ай бұрын
a suggestion for a topic, is what camera should we use in Lightburn, for instance I have the TwoTrees TS 10W laser and I'm using their enclosure, I've already tested 3 cameras from Amazon and none of them works as expected, so I returned them all. In Lightburn we have 2 options of camera one on a stand and another in the laser, how can that one in laser work, I never saw anyone in any KZbin channel talking about those 2 different positions and in my case due to the fact that i don't enough height in the enclosure if I set them in the middle I have lack of focus.... so does it really make sense to have one if we need to have an higher enclosure or is there any camera that can be set at, let's say, 30mm from the laser bed???
@thetinkerverse11 ай бұрын
Ahhh as much as I would love to do that, I don't have a camera on my laser so I would be talking out of my rear trying to make it sound legit :)

That Omtech is a nice machine. I've actually been eyeing that as a possible candidate if I can't get my K40 back up and running again. For the out of round issue, most times that is something loose in the drivetrain. Check to make sure any belts are tensioned properly and all of the various hardware is tightened down right. If you can't get it sorted I'm sure Omtech may have some suggestions.

How do you enable the radius drag handle that was introduced in 1.5? I can no longer grab a shape by that corner to align with others
@thetinkerverse8 ай бұрын
As of 1.6 you hold the CTRL key to make it visible (Command key on MAC). Apparently people were accidentally grabbing it instead of the resize handles so they hid it until you hold the modifier key.
@scottm828511 ай бұрын
They need to change "warp" to "skew" and "deform" to "warp". Coming from the Photoshop and Illustrator world, warp means more of a bend using handles to define curves. Skew is moving straight lines like.
@genabush461911 ай бұрын
I keep looking for the "envelope" tool to "warp" my text! 😁 it's almost like you have to take off each hat and put a new one on when you use a different program so you can remember where your tools are. I use Corel, AI, AP, LB, and LXI (vinyl cutting software. Flipping between makes me loopy sometimes.
