All of that may be some part of it... but I think it would be more on the side of the mathematical system they use, while the other species evolved to used a 6 digit system, the Lombax would be have the upper hand ( see what I did there?) to advance faster and better in the shorter amount of time. They'd use a decimal system, their math would seem alien and way more advanced to any other species in the universe.

very nice observation. id say back when ratchet1 came out, the devs didnt think that far out. id say the 5 finger was to give more character to ratchet and the 3fingers were to render less polygons. then, they implimented a ''chosen one'' concept into ratchet's race to empower the player. and its original to have a cute cat-like super intelligent speicies! :)

though the three fingers argument is a good one it’s also not without its evidence, as general Azimuth put it tachyon’s ideas were “Lightyears beyond what we were using” it’s not to say they weren’t advanced but rather were slow catching up to the technology of the rest of the galaxy while their own tech was advanced in its own way, it’s not that they are hyper intelligent or anything but rather because they are skilled engineers, i mean ratchet built a hyperspace warp drive out of scrap metal......Literally!

I would go one step farther and say 5 fingers are a more enhanced tool, and being more enhanced they are given the freedom to think more flexibly in there use. this leads to more flexible takes on other things which may not make them more intelligent but more creative. There enhanced creativity would lead to a more rapid technological development as they take more risks they might find acceptable and explore more areas.

I do wonder how such an advanced race known for their intelligence be as aggressive as they are. (Don't say they aren't, you all no doubt have seen the grin Ratchet wears when he uses a particularly destructive weapon!) While a lot of it can be explained by the various pasts of the only three Lombax examples we have, the most solid possibly being Alaster Azimuth seeing as he was actually proven to have grown up before the "Fall of the Lombaxes" or whatever their space jump was called. But surely the only three examples of a Lombax within the games wouldn't ALL be as aggressive as they are because of their various pasts!? Ratchet is understandable because he is an orphan, who possibly grew up on the streets which explains the rundown junk heap he called a house in the first game, surrounded by nobody that looked even remotely like him on a backwater planet that I suppose could be like the "bad side of town" of the Solanna Galaxy. It's also possible that he never even knew the name of his own species until Percival came along two, if I remember correctly, most people called him "That little fuzzy guy" or something similar when referring to his species up until Tools of Destruction came along. Angela is also rather aggressive, particularly before we knew what she actually looked like, and probably grew up in a similar situation, granted a different one because she clearly managed to get an education that was more than likely denied from Ratchet. She probably had more resources to learn more about who and what she is too. Why she never told Ratchet I don't know, she might not have recognized him as a male member of her species, told him offscreen, or kept quiet in hopes of protecting Ratchet from the influence of Percival. Azimuth is the big clue in the fact that Lombaxes are also a rather aggressive species by nature when it comes to battle. His character and the hints he gave while speaking about the race as a whole, added to the clues given in Tools of Destruction, paint the Lombax race as a race of warriors and scientists. Judging on how Ratchet's father was the one to "discover" what little information there was on the Great Clock, it's safe to assume he was a scientist, while Azimuth's manner and station would make him a diplomat and a warrior (Even with a past like that you DON'T get that good at fighting without prior experience before the Fall!)

The last time we saw Angela was un R&C3, and she had her mask... I didn't really get that, she's one of my favourite characters in the franchise. Also, in the first R&C game for the PS3, they mentioned that Ratchet had never seen a Lombax before.

Come to think of it, none of them were surprised! When Angela first met Ratchet, and when Ratchet & Clank found out her true identity. They were only surprised that she just happened to be a girl.

Interesting... but there's a point I think might be interesting to consider... Remember the Pilot Helmet upgrade in the first game? The cutscene originally introducing it showed it to use MIND controls. So while Lombaxes may have had an upper hand prior (it WAS only just finished), NOW that might not be the case anymore. Then again, Lombaxes probably reached that level of tech prior anyway, thus rendering most of my point moot. Ah well.

Great video! But what's up with all the gloves in the Ratchet and Clank games? Ratchet always happens to find/buy gloves with 5 fingers, altough the majority of species in the universe have only 3 fingers. Isn't it a bit unrealistic? A valid argument, though I should point out that while the lombaxes are an intelligent race, they aren't the smartest beings in the galaxy. That award goes to the plumber: by visiting every known area in the galaxy he acquired knowledge of advanced Lombax technology (knowing the dimentionator wasn't a weapon of mass destruction and it needing the 3/4 hexagonal washer) and Zoni technology (entering clank's mind and somehow knowing to only risk 6 minutes with the great clock), plus he managed to somehow make the RYNO VII as a "pet project" and make it into a portable form despite the VI model having to be a mech suit

The lombaxes are not the only rase with five fingers, we can see cleerly that Talwyn, witch is a Markazian, and her father has five fingers like the lombaxes, another example is Sasha Phyronix and her father, five fingers on their hands, and after looking at how match sily the lomaxes are in the games I think the story about how match they are smart was to match stratch out, most of Ratchet inenshenst blowup, so I think this theory is to match stretch out

the whole three fingers thing got me thinking about TMNT and more specifically Donatello. could you do a theory on how is Donatello so smart? In the 4Kids cartoon, Donatello was able to keep up and work with the technology of 100 years into the future and in the episode "Web Wranglers", Raphael said that his iq was 637. Now Raph probably was exagerating and doesn't really know his iq, but that still needs to be taken into consideration. The turtles all grew up together and was raised the same way by Master Splinter. Why did Donatello become a genius and not his brothers? Did the ooze that mutated them change Donatello's brain in a way that he is now able to retain information easier than anyone else? But again, why only him and not his brothers as well? i should stop thinking about this, its starting to bother me.

you picked the wrong fingers for the example. a three fingered hand would likely be like not having a pinky or ring finger. I already only use three digits to writing or eating (not with chopsticks, though). While extra digits would make typing faster and grip sturdier, I'm not sure they would add enough speed to manual interactions (like swing a hammer or using a power drill) to cause that much of a difference because the speed that your body moves isn't dictated by finger count.

Daniel Paterson Link just doesn't talk so he's easy to project on. He CAN talk, he just doesn't. Wind Waker Link says "Come on!" when calling Medli or Makar. And although not strictly a word, he does scream when falling, distinctly shouting "AAAAAGH!!" I'm no expert but I don't think someone with a vocal problem could do that. In fact he does talk on Skyward Sword, those text box choices that come up when asked a question? That's him talking. I'm certain some Zelda games have him gesturing to someone as the screen fades out which is also him talking. You just don't see it yourself.

This is just a thought but wouldn't a universe mainly inhabited by creatures with three fingers have tools made for three fingers? It seems as if you are basing one of your points off of the fact that it would be harder, or at least more time consuming, to use a tool, such as a soldering iron, that is made for five fingers. Have you ever used a soldering iron made for three fingers? i haven't to be sure, and would be surprised to see one here. But you also talk about writing. I only use three fingers while writing. two for holding and my middle to steady the utensil. I'm not completely sure if you are being serious in this video because having two extra fingers making you advance so much quicker than the other races in the series seems a rather long stretch, but eh what do I know.
