Round of Applause to all the Students who worked on these!
@sociallyresponsiblexenomor76085 жыл бұрын
Before and after would honestly impress me more. I imagine plenty of your students were already very good before enrolling in the course, that is the case with a lot of these. It's about the work you put in of course, but what I mean is this doesn't tell us how much they learned from you and how much they learned before you.

i wish i would of considered this school first instead of Ai. when it comes to computer animation, they just teach you the basics, but nothing breathtaking to show off on your demoreel. If you want to do breathtaking stuff, then it's all on you. Anyway, fantastic work guys, really amazing stuff. I don't even consider this a student reel, it's very professional

Alex Shabetayev good to know i'm not alone here. Well at least the Miami, division isn't up to par when it comes to some of their classes. There's absolutely nothing about lighting/rendering when it comes to that school. I had to pretty much teach myself, which defeats the purpose of paying thousands of dollars for the right tutelage. Also, forget compositing classes related to 3d. I asked a professor about using different passes, diffuse, reflect, spec, z-depth,ambient, etc. and they had nothing to say. They told me to try digitaltutors (which the school provides) or some other source. Now, I know how to use different passes through any compositing software, but it was based on my efforts and none on theirs, which is beyond sad.

DarkMizu1 Ironically I went to Ai Miami, did you go? I agree they taught the basics and a little more for those who were passionate. In my experience if you wanted to move ahead you would go above and beyond in the class projects and ask the right questions, the professors i had were good, but since it is a 3 yr program you can't cram everything and besides it was a University so you had to take GE classes which are of total no use to me right now, besides the history ones which i liked, cause I like history :). The key in schools like Gnomon is that they are taught by pros in the field, that my friend is priceless.
@DarkMizu19 жыл бұрын
I'm going there now and I'm 2 semesters away from graduating;I haven't graduated yet. that's why I'm so passionate about this topic. Some of the professors are great, don't get me wrong, but it's just that......I don't know, I just expected a bit more. Gnomon prepares you for the industry while Ai, just teaches the basics like I said. Here's a sample of my work. my portfolio isn't even close to be done, but i'm trying my hardest to get it even decent enough to call it a reel. richardj9000.wix.com/darkwaters1

DarkMizu1 I know I feel you. I might even know you, I hire interns almost every semester. I work at Zerofractal, you might have heard of us. I want to give you the ugly truth, even though I am not in the Entertainment Industry or games, I have dealt with many artist nationwide on various projects with high end clients. Graduates come through the door every week with the latest reel 1 out of 7 is interesting. In addition a lot of my friends which went to school with me are in the industry in very prestigious companies. So here it is: Want to be a modeler: Go to ZbrushCentral and try to get your work to be on that lever or at least close to it, the students from this reel definitely have it. Learn anatomy. Sculpt. Get feedback from your work Want to be an animator: practice a shit load, participate in every competition out there, show your work to be critiqued (most important for all fields). Go through the Animation Mentor program, recruiters go there cause they who teaches them, Iv'e had mentors who were actively working on productions as they taught. Want to be an effects artist - Pick a sick effect that you like in a movie and try to replicate to the t, you will learn a lot, find a community like CGSociety, post your work get feedback. Do tutorials on the subject. Want to be a rigger - Create complex rigs, gotta know MEL and have useful scripts and/or plug ins you created. Learn how things move as well as how animators animate, your are creating a puppet for them. Follow artists you admire, join community, get feedback. The formula is relatively simple: 1. Practice on you own personal projects 2. Get feedback from community 3. Follow artists you admire 4. Make noise online with your work 5. Collaborate on projects, you will learn how to work in a team. 6. Practice. Everyone has different circumstances in their lives, not sure what is your, but if you really want to be in the industry, you need to work at non-stop. If you don't have the passion, forget it! You will be eaten alive. If you do have the money to go to Gnomon after you graduate, do it! You might have known all this, but thats my view.

It's good that you're realising what you're interested in at such an early age. Learn all you can now, that way you'll be a beast by the time you're ready to go to gnomon or any other design school. Best of luck 👍

SuperiorFilms Hey. I was your way at that age. It was 12 when I opened first package(Gmax...the horror) and entered the game development path. Since then, it has been a struggle. I'm 24 now. Take advantage of the educational software packages and tutorial sites out there. I started with Digital Tutors and ended up with mounds of workshops. They're amazing. I also attended Art Institutes for a while, but eventually dropped due to high tuition fees. Gnomon workshops are amazing though along with all of the wonderful sites out there. Take advantage of it all and crave knowledge. : )

+VFX Ltd™ Gnomon also has online tutoring as well, look up Gnomon Workshop, it's $60/mo however. DT is good, but I find that they are too technical, Gnomon has artist techniques that will benefit you in making solid design choices. So it's probably best to learn from both. ie DT to learn say zbrush, then Gnomon to learn the techniques.
@VFXLtd8 жыл бұрын
Floreum I normally find the gnomon courses more technical and broad. They don't tend to explain every single detail. However, all of the tutors worked on some big budget movies. Good concept, though However, DT divides everything up into videos and explain things way bettter.

Does anyone know how the process is to get accepted to Gnomon is, like what kind of portfolio are the looking for. I have some skill in Maya, Photoshop, After Effect, Dream Weaver, Flash, Light Room, Premiere, pretty much a bunch of adobe software lol. But my art skills are at a beginner level, trying to improve on them. How good do you have to be at painting and drawing, to get accepted, and how hard is it to get accepted. I'm interested in this school, but afraid that I'm not good enough to get in :(
@VFXLtd8 жыл бұрын
Learn these software: After Effects, Nuke, Photoshop, 3dsmax, Maya, zbrush. These industry software are actually used to create vfx. And by knowing how to use these software would allow you to get accepted into any industries, not just Gnomon. tbh, schools like these cost alot and a waste of money. You don't always get to learn what you want to learn and at the end of the day you'll feel like dropping out lol. Light room and other adobe software such as dream weaver are used for processing photos/ graphics and not so much vfx. Having a limited but sparse knowledge in everything isn't that great. Just focus on a couple to start off. Digital tutors has a plethora of tutorials. gl :) Btw, you dont have to think about getting in, you can even learn all of these online by watching lotss of youtube tutorials and other paid tuts.

Reaper Gnomon has a 96% placement rate for its students. Next school is about 56%. So if your aim is to work in the industry professionally you have a higher chance through Gnomon, & that is where the value lies.
