I passed your boat this morning, you were all closed up because of the rain so I didn't knock. I enjoy your videos very much.

Thank you, I really enjoyed this. I know that stretch of the canal very well from walking along the tow path. Lovely video, gentle and relaxing.

Thanks Phil some useful tips to add to my map. Got my boat back yesterday after three weeks out of the water, really missed it. Sadly again the weather is aweful today so not going anywhere. Take care.

It's certainly very wet out there today. I won't be moving anywhere but one daft boat has already passed!

@ 10:36 >> White building up there on the right is "The Boat Inn" Legendary local pub ( at least in the 70/80s) Ozzy (Black Sabbath) ( who lived in Ranton at the time) visited on a few occasions most notably Christmas lunch 78 when he popped in with Roy Woods ( Wizard) and bought everybody a pint..... There used to be an Annual Boat race from the Boat Inn to the next bridge( Navigation Inn) where we'd build our own boats / rafts and race. Wished we'd had camera phones then . Some of the contraptions were fantastic

Great vlog. Nice stretch of canal. I see a lot of day boats pass you so I presume there is a hire company up yonder.
@NarrowboatJourneys5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Those day-boats come from Norbury Junction.

Lovely part of the Shroppy. I'm very fond of bridge 42 and the Anchor Inn and the stretch. to Market Drayton.

One of my favourites stretches of canal. Much less stressful than the Llangollen :)

Definitely, I've quite gone off the Llangollen.

We've found and are binge watching your cruise videos. Please share best hard copy maps and guide books we can use to follow along and see details of your travels. TY.

Thank you. I use Ordnance Survey maps and Nicholson waterways guide books - but all of mine are a bit out of date now.

Interesting seeing the number of hire boats you passed. I've wondered if there are any seasonal restrictions on hire boats, or are they available year-round? Depending on when we can take a hop across the "pond", it seems like it would make a nice holiday, if you can imagining flying 4,500 miles to go putting along at 4 miles per hour on a canal for a week :)
@NarrowboatJourneys5 жыл бұрын
They are very expensive to hire, depending on the time of year usually.
@NarrowboatJourneys5 жыл бұрын
There can be problems hiring between November and March as this is when most of the maintenance closures happen. So the canal may be closed.

The first pub up on the right as you come up to Gnossal is The Boat. Moored up by it last week and the food was top notch. Wonder if that boat moored loosely was trying to avoid the Shroppie shelf?
@scottfw71695 жыл бұрын
Was looking at Google Maps satellite view and street view and it looks like yet a bit further up from ending point here, Norbury Road goes in a one-lane tunnel under the canal. Now there's a question, Google maps has their "Street View" thing, what would it take to get them to do "Canal View"?
@NarrowboatJourneys5 жыл бұрын
Between Gnosall and Norbury Jnc there are two roads that go under the canal. You don't see them from the canal though.
@Joanne-ub1uy3 жыл бұрын
Hiya, great video, I was thinking of biking up to market Drayton, any thoughts on the canal topath my friend
@NarrowboatJourneys3 жыл бұрын
The towpath is pretty good but might be bad in Woodseaves cutting. There are often landslides there and it is always muddy.

I don't worry too much about correct pronunciation - it generates more comments (as do spelling miskates)! ;-)
