GNR C1 Atlantic vs GNR Stirling Single

Evening Matt, having not seen both the actual engines, based on the models I do like the Stirling single. It is just something that is quite rare & different in it's appearance. Also the gearing mechanism to make it 4 wheel drive on 2 sets of completely different size wheels is very cool.

Tough call to pick between them! I love the presence/look of the C1 Atlantic but the action of the single driving wheel is mesmerising so the GNR Stirling single gets my vote.

I am not a steam era guy and 4-4-2s are quite common, so I would say I like the Stirling just for its unique look.

I like the C1 best as I saw the one at Shildon and was impressed with how tall it looked and the model looks really nice too.

Hello Matt, good to see you back at your layout after a few weeks. I really like of your 2 Model GNR Steam Locos. I cannot choose a favourite between them, I really like both of them, they are great locomotives, I've seen Stirling Single No.1 at the National Railway Museum in York around 2 years ago in February 2017 during Half-Term when Flying Scotsman was doing train rides in the South Yard of the Museum, but I haven't seen the Atlantic No.251 yet, as she's at Shildon. I understand the Great Northern C1 Atlantic is your favourite, that's your opinion after all. Onces again, I really like your video. Good job mate. Yours kindly Jordan Shingler 😉

Both loco's are GREAT and would certainly like to have them DCC Sound fitted. However my preference goes to the Atlantic, it is more robust and with a Bachmann you can hardly go wrong as I know from my Bachmann Lord Nelson with DCC Sound and many more Bachmann diesels

The single was 229quid,and I think that the Atlantic was 179quid,Bachmann are bringing it out as part of their regular range at 199quid,I believe.

Both are stunning locos, real life and model. I don't think you can pit one against the other but the Stirling was an innovative design built for the East coast expresses and the C1 Atlantic was more of a development from preceding designs. Forced to choose a favourite or which model would I buy first? The answer is the Sterling.

2 Great Locomotives Matthew tho with the GNR C1 Atlantic preserved it would be very easy to maintain as the GNR Stirling Single which also is preserved has that massive wheel on which with the GNR C1 Atlantic boiler which is so clear to see. James Joseph JJ Dyer

no. one has 2 driving wheels and the other has 4

matt slade Since Rapido geared the Single’s trailing axle to the main driving one, I’d argue it’s effectively a 4-4-0, and that the models (specifically not the prototypes) have the same number of powered axles and wheels.

It's a big deal that the single is diecast, however the stalling is problematic. That and the single is just too archaic for me. I'll take the C1 in LNER green, please.
