The Democratic Alliance made its stance clear that it will not support the implementation of the BELA Act clauses 3 & 4 under no condition.
The party has also put its stance clear that the NHI will not be supported by the party in its current form and shape.

I respect the work of the Solidarity movement much more than what the DA has been doing for the past thirty years, we are building our own schools and so we will also set up our own health system. This is what you call federalism. This Bela act is purely to take over well developed Afrikaans and English schools because they cannot develop something similar, unfortunately that will be the end of that schools as well.

I still dont get any of these agendas. Cyril signed that the other parts of the Bela act moves forward. We can expect over 500 000 additional learners, including the kids who beg on the street to be placed in schools yet we cant even place all kids for 1-3 months after school started let alone extra 500k. Where is the money to feed the additional kids who need to be placed on a nutritional program or a scholar transport program. How much has been spend to even inform the poorest of the poor their kids should all be in school next year? We cutting 6000 teacher jobs instead of probably adding 12 0000 extras. This thing makes no sense. So even withoutbthe language debate this bela billa is a mess

So it is OK for those 500k kids not to have education? The current bills would never have been signed if school did no deliberately do their own thing and exclude kids. Whether is a school in Kzn or Free State not offering Zulu or Sotho as a language and forcing kids to do Afrikaans. No african kids should be taught of European history but never taught of African history is wrong.

Unfortunately it’s not the masses who are opposing the bill. The masses have children in quintile 1 & 2 schools. Most of the opposition comes from parents whose children are in quintile 4 and 5 schools (probably mostly quintile 5). These are the parents who pay school fees, who are involved in the school and want to maintain high standards with single medium language instruction. They want the School Governing Bodies to retain admission policy and control. The children in quintile 5 schools will be the most disadvantaged by the BELA Bill. The other group most affected are the children of homeschoolers. Again, these children are in the minority. I read through literally hundreds of parliamentary submissions opposing the BELA Bill. Most of the submissions seemed to centre around homeschooling, instruction in Afrikaans and upholding Christian values. Parents are concerned they are losing control of traditionally held responsibility. It remains to be seen whether government overreach is a genuine concern.
